This is a typical cutting mechanism. As I’m sure you know, it doesn’t have blades mounted on the face of a ‘flywheel’ like a conventional chipper. The flywheel ( or in some cases, really heavy pulley wheel) is mounted on one of the shafts in the style of a vintage stationary engine flywheel.

In 100% agreement there though. The imported residents (and they are not limited to Londoners) to the West Country are the main reason I don’t regret leaving!

Possibly….., but I first left ‘the cage’ when I was in my late teens. I lived and worked all over the UK, depending on where the opportunities arise, so I know a thing or two about working in all weathers. Maybe it’s my formative years that have resulted in me never spending too much time worrying about wind, rain or mud.

If you’re native to Devon, you don’t think of it’s weather as ‘severe’, it’s just what you think of as being ‘the weather’ (the same a steep, narrow, winding country roads are just ‘roads’).
