    Energy Bills

Alternatively, would you have any idea of which of the ‘power supply companies’ could be nationalised to bring down the international wholesale energy price? I have heard this idea banded about recently, but can’t for the life of me see how it could make any meaningful difference.
  2. Are you felling it because you need firewood, or are you felling it because it’s infected. If it’s just the latter, I would leave it…. It may surprise you.
  3. The opulence. “Dad, what did you do during the cost-of-living-crisis?” ”I ate breakfast, lass. I ate breakfast”.

    Jokes???

    I hope that’s true. whattaguy.
  5. Hell yeah…… go tree, you got this!
  6. All of this really needs some form of common sense approach from someone like @daltontrees
  7. In the original post, it was stated that it was a wild cherry (I’m guessing, it just ‘grew’, rather than being lovingly planted). Not impossible to imagine that this was just a sucker from the wide ranging root of an even older original tree growing in next doors garden. I reckon this thing is centuries old. No one owns it. It is feral.
  8. Your tree is gone. This is now their tree. Their tree is supporting a root system. The roots of their tree now extends into your garden. Be sure to complain to them if the roots cause you a nuisance.
  9. (especially should you consider god is a horsefly/squirrel/chicken).
  10. Your mother’s actions would have been less serious than a usual summers worth of rain. Blaming her for a cherry tree doing what a cherry tree does seems as unreasonable as blaming it on an act of god.
  11. Insufficient info I’m afraid. Were they supposed to fell and grind out the stump? Maybe they were asked to fell by the estate agent, but advised grinding out the stump and roots as well, only to be told by the estate agent that that would be an unnecessary expense…..
  12. Were the tree surgeons supposed to chop the thing down, or were they supposed to remove it and grind out the stump?
  13. I don't think so. The ‘cowboy tree surgeon’ label seems a bit harsh. That being said, it also seems unreasonable to point the finger at your mother for simply watering her plants. As has been said, depending on the species, it should be pretty buggered by now.

    Long shot

Its probably the only bit of a maxus that can trace its history right back to the Freight Rovers.

    Insects

Old skool ’the far side’. Every ones a classic and always made me chuckle.

    Insects

It’s a classic. (never eaten a squirrel. Never got past the skinning phase. Anyone who has skinned a squirrel will know why).

Unless of course god themself is a horsefly. If that is the case, it’ll be a bummer for you when you reach the pearly gates.
  18. Good job. Can stand it when people pre-occupy themselves with piffling details.
  19. I guess it’s just me then, but I think it’s one of the most butt-ugly birches I’ve even seen. Sorry.
  20. Plenty of options to keep the whole family’s cocoa warm with that stove!

    Insects

Live and let live. I will flick pretty much anything out of the way of my cut. if the mulcher then pummels them 20 minutes later, that’s their lookout.
  22. My first thought was a heated battery. I had a similar result when I experimented on how quickly I could discharge a bli200x battery crosscutting gnarley oak.
  23. Nope, 5 power stations and 40 new hospital workers.
  24. Actually, when they started Hinckley C, the press wet themselves as to how high it would push up the cost of electric . If I remember the scaremongering, it could add something like a couple of pence to the cost of a unit of electricity. Wow. Not so expensive now is it!
