  1. Our advice to people is get tomorrows logs by the stove today it makes a difference.
  2. We have had no problems with it well seasoned,so go for it.
  3. Try burning wood pellets on a log burner.Somebody I know did and managed to change the shape of the stove.Nothing left of the baffle plate.

  5. The man we buy our timber of says dont you go and buy one of those processor things I have enough trouble to supply the others. One customer says he wants 1000 tons that will go through his processer.I am told he will have to pay more for it.We take whatever comes.

I have this saw and use it with a 30" bar.How much would it cost to get set up to rip softwood in 5 ft lengths.Mainly nothing over 20" dia.
  7. Just having a quick look at the site.Have you read adam ralphs answer to buying a processor.I know a man who made the same mistake. He just wanted to be able to put bigger timber through. But now pays the price. And it has not got the power to split most of what he cuts.Going back outside now, some 40" lengths to split in half.

  8. We prefer to burn seasoned softwood on our clearview.Willow, sitka and douglas they keep the stove thermometer nicely at 500 F, where it should be.
  9. I have been talking with a saw doctor and he mention that it is illagal to use diesel on blades whilst cutting wood. And carried on to say some saw mills he had been to they where swimming in the stuff.Might it ever come that we as firewood producers will be banned from using mineral based chain oil because of the risk of cancer to the person buying the logs?.
  10. We had the chance of two artic loads early last year, nothing over 10" dia,the price was right so we went for it.Split it in long lengths to dry.Sold the lot by Xmas and everyone who tried it wanted more.It was very dry.
  11. I have had 500 ltrs of red diesel delivered today,at 48.85p per litre. Cheque written out for a total of £256.46 and was given to the driver. What are the rest of you paying ? This is mainly for our Matbro as most of our cutting is done with electric.
  12. Hello Jeff,

Just wondered if you new of a firm who could supply bandsaw blades 1.25" wide .9 mm thick.2 T.P.I . 5.2 m long. Bye.

    Bilke

Hi everyone, I did just wonder that, its a simple fast machine.Doesnt set the best of standards with the finished product.I have seen them with cracked cutting discs if thats what its called. Also chains underneath stretched and wooden blocks shoved in to tighten them. My thoughts were could anybody create a firewood business using a Bilke ? Not that i am thinking of doing it myself but i know that there is alot of them been sold.

I was just wondering ,has anybody managed to create a firewood business using a Bilke processor ?
  15. Hi Chris

Just wondered if they have had a chance to have a go at that splitter yet ? I hope it arrived safely. We`ve put the new blade in the small circular saw. It runs with a very high pitch scream which would do my tinitus no good without my ear muffs, but boy does it cut. Don`t think the original blade ever cut so well even after it had been touched up by Kennedy`s. I believe at this point that it is a better blade. Am possibly thinking of ordering another blade to come back on the pallet with the splitter rather than get this other one touched up again, would i save on carriage if i did ? The new saw is an absolute "beast". 6.1 amps whilst not cutting and up to 21 whilst cutting; whereas the little one is 3.6 amps empty and up to 16 under load. Speak to you soon.

  16. Hi Fentiger, We sell alot of softwood logs. One of our customers has a stoves showroom and always has a couple of stoves lit. Their prefered wood is douglas fir but we have found that providing it is well seasoned and dry from the rain, then any soft wood will sell to our customers.
  17. Nigel Tonks once told me he went to see a man about some machinery.Whilst there the man said that he would like to show him the biggest lump of scrap he had ever bought. They went around the corner and there was a pilkkie processer.
  18. We to cut at 40".To get 8" for nets and small stoves.10" and 13 and a third inches.Sounds abit of a fiddle I Know but we cut all the dry wood on a Ballario and Forestello bandsaw.Electric ,very little waste.Any thing with abit of moisture is cut on a B & F elecric circular saw.And the bigger stuff is cut straight into 15" or 18" rings and split.Seems to work well for us.
  19. We have a Husqy electric chainsaw. The bigger of the two they make, with a 16" bar. We have owned it for almost a year now. And it was bought from Stanton Hope. At first i thought the cable would get in the way but i soon got used to it. All our cutting is done inside, so to have something quieter than an ordinary chainsaw is lovely. I know its got its limitations but it has saved us alot in fuel costs and chain oil. Also there is not a problem with the air filter blocking as we are cutting dry wood on a concrete surface which tends to lead to a dusty environment. We do have other saws to cut firewood being bandsaws and circular saws which are used in conjunction with dust extractors.
