  1. Collino comby with 15 ton splitter from Riko looks useful, they have sold a few.
  2. Digga the best hedge laying I have seen.
  3. 1500 hedging stakes sold since my last post.
  4. A few years ago we had a mobile mechanic come to our Matbro,he had a funnel that separates the water, debris from the diesel. I see for one they are for sale on Amazon, called Mr Funnel fuel Filter and Water Separator. Would one of these help with some of the problems mentioned.
  5. One of the tanks on the back stores the fuel.
  6. I know this bandsaw it belongs to some friends of mine. They do not have a blade sharpening machine hence could be cutting better. It is in very could condition, abit slow yes. But will be a good buy for somebody.
  7. I like the way you can restack the timber, also how it's possible to put the rotating cone against it and role it over. I usually restack the timber with the bark up.
  8. We have a Takeuchi TB80 with a 2 speed Lasco. One of our daughters put a video on you tube called "Firewood is born" where there is a few images of the setup. I think for such big timber a bigger excavator might be best. I rarely get timber as big as that and the TB80 is brilliant.
  9. Thank you Calum we had not used the splitter for a while so maybe you are right, I hope so.
  10. We put some more oil in it this morning and used it for an hour. No problems. Shortly after stopping it I removed the dip stick come breather,to see a lot of small bubbles.
  11. Started the splitter up as per usual this morning.Left it a short while, started to use it splitting some 20" long odd lengths .When I realised oil was oozing out of the breather. Just wondered if anybody has experienced this.
  12. Today the man I mentioned above came and bought 500 stakes, and said he wood be back for more. Whilst delivering logs today I came across a couple of blokes hedge laying they said they pay 60p per stake.
  13. I know of a contractor who buys big poplar, brings it to his yard ,cone splits it. Loads it straight back on to his lorrys and off to a woodchip company.
  14. In the picture to the left show me making hedging stakes. All are made from seasoned softwood.
  15. We ask -55p per hedging stake. They are 5' long pointed 4 ways, tied up in bundles of 20.And one hedge layer complained that was to much money.
  16. We had the Thor mignon electric and it did brilliantly, after many years of service it became slow,so a friend had it.I replaced it with the Balfor 11 ton electric it's been here over 3 years and seen a lot of wood and still going strong. We think it's the better splitter of the two.
  17. When we are turning Larch into billets sometimes you can find a puddle of resin underneath the cut length stood up prior to splitting.I will then split it to open up where the resin is.Then cut that billet with a circular saw into logs.Put the logs up on one of the rooves with the resin facing the elements, maybe for a year. Then on a nice day put it in the back of our own log shed. When it comes to burning it, Big J has got the answer.
  18. We have a clearview vision for 20 years now,and with the aid of a heat recovery system it has been keeping a 4 bedroom bungalow cosy.I paid about £600 for it and I sure if it went on ebay today I would get our money back.It still looks good and runs well and all we burn is softwood.
  19. That involves my good lady,2 mugs of water in a kettle in just the right place and its boiling in a short time.We put a one gallon kettle by the side of it for the washing up etc. That will be boiling in under 40 mins with a steady fire.We love it.
  20. It takes 20 mins with a steady fire to get the oven to 200,also makes lovely toast for breakfast on the top.
  21. With talk of log burners I thought I would give a wood burning cooker we have a mention.Us firewood boys always get wood that is not really fit for sale for one reason or another.Hence we buy a log burner or two.We a year ago May bought this little cooker ,we did not want a back boiler just the cooker. It sits on a 3' by 2' slab ,obviously plenty of info on line.It loves pallets, crack willow , poplar and any softwood. And is really easy to manage with a price that would suit a lot of pockets.
  22. From my memory no it won't,I've sharpened a 2 tpi blade on the bench grinder no problem, have used a blade today a lot cutting firewood.3 tpi maybe a dremel and watch one of the blade sharpening videos on you tube.
  23. I have sharpened many double hard and silver tip woodmizer blades on my old sharpener, seemed to cut really well and got many sharpenings out of a blade.
