1. As we speak i'm about 20% through dropping an old plum orchard and i have thought of the small branches going through my machine but time is a major factor on this job if i do get time towards the end i might do a few nets and see what it looks like.
2. I use allsorts of sized timber and just run it through my circular saw if it's too big and cut it down to roughly 1"x1". The company I bought the machine off had a load of nets without tie tops(I think they come over with machines)Well i bought all that stock off them and just tied the tops off with string, because the nets are so large theres only a couple of suppliers that i've managed to find(guys who supply machine and Medallion net company.) as for UV stability not a clue all I know is that i started bagging wood early summer and they've been sat in barn since and seem just fine and the price of nets I have no idea have a look on Medallion nets web site that might say i honestly cant remember. Thanks Phil
3. Shipping the nets out as kindling the customers love it. A great big net of kindling for £10 what a bargain:sneaky2: All they need to do is grab a handfull for each time they light there stove/fire the pieces are about 3"-5" and there are a few tiny bits mixed in but nobody seems too bothered by that. I've got a cabinet maker guy that has loads of 2"x1" hardwood offcuts about 8' long I dont know whether to cut it down and mix in with the softwood or sell it seperately as "starting logs" packed in same size nets. the "starting logs" thing is a bit gimmicky i know but i'm sure they'll sell when logs start running short:biggrin: Thanks Phil.
4. Thats a joke surely:lol:Can't understand this one? Surely it depends what you charge and how much timber you are getting for £5k. Thanks Phil
5. Thats the baby:biggrin: The're just starting to sell in quantity now.
6. I really dont worry too much this time of year if they go elsewhere it's normally my price that puts them off. Then later in the season my price seems to be quite acceptable because first time round they had crap delivered and that supplier normally runs out of wood end of November.
7. Very true and you shouldn't lose customers if your selling good quality logs. I've gone down the route of trying to source all wood locally which keeps the carbon footprint to a minimum, most customers like the idea of "keep it local".
8. Nowt wrong with arb arisings it's just not as presentable as split cord:001_smile: if it's dry arb arisings that is:confused1:as i saw some lovely wet conifer at a pub i now deliver to,this was last season and they wondered why they were struggling to burn it. There's loads playing at it around here for the first few winter months then run out. I was getting more at the count/volume of logs rather than arb arisings. Thanks Phil
9. I deliver all my loads on trailers and sell them as approx 1m3,counted a few times for customers who want to split a load. roughly 310-330 8"-10" logs on my loads. Theres 2 guys local to me advertise as 1 cube of logs equates to 250 logs me thinks there using smaller builders bags:confused1:might ring them to find out and just put them right rather than weights and measures visiting them:sneaky2:. Their no real competetion as the one's just arb waste and the other supplies shite (unseasoned) wood Thanks Phil
10. Just ticking over nicely about 10-15 loads a week in this crazy autumn weather. What about you Jon what sort of volume you moving? Give us all a rough idea rather than the normal "doing nicely" Thanks Phil
11. Just entered aswell mainly because i'm sick and tired of burning all my offcuts:blushing:
12. I'll have to give them a ring:001_cool: If they sell many in my area the TM70(branch logger) going to be flat out:sneaky2:
13. seems to be a few talking the talk....... BUT very few walking the walk:001_rolleyes: Me i'm off to have some Stowford press and chill after a steady 8 loads tday
14. Just put some up more to follow. Your pictures are:confused1:
15. Come on please Jon lets see some pictures. surely from the look of your website and the advert you've put in the firewood suppliers section on here(supporting the site you use!!) you must be in the same league as certainly wood ???
16. Is the hardwood cord to be processed/sold this season???? If so big mistake, someone new coming into the firewood game and supplying unseasoned timber will only get a bad name for themselves:blushing: Dont worry this happens every season with people running out of timber and putting ads up for "wanted cord hardwood" in the middle of november/december:lol:. Thanks Phil
17. Hi John have you managed to grow your buisness to that size single handed or have you received funding aswell?? Thanks Phil.
18. Oh dear someones rattled. How many cube do you get in that van:lol: I think thats it?? never done pictures b4.

Sawdust

Mine goes straight into boxes and mixed with all the sawdust from local cabinet makers and turned into briquettes:thumbup1:Some of the guys I collect sawdust off have locals collect their sawdust just to take it out of their way but I dont think much if any money changes hands:confused1: It's the horsey people that you might get it sold to as this time of year the wet patches soon start to appear in their paddocks. Thanks Phil
20. I take it you didn't really study too much in Geography Jon:lol:
21. I think caerphilly area may be a little too far to make it worth while:confused1:
22. I think you may well of left it a little late for this year/season to get timber in and ready to sell on to customers thats if your after cordwood??? Theres loads of people selling/moving timber but they will all be flat out with there regulars.
23. I now intend replenishing lost liquids with lots of fermented Apple juice:001_huh: and BBQ then later have some of my lovely briquettes on the chiminea.
24. Ditto... Local press full of Ads. "Once its gone its gone" seems to be their best Ad and another is "Get it now and get it nice and dry for winter". I think that translates into "i'm selling lovely green wood thats got a real high moisture content". Cant wait for the orders to come in off the customers that brought their logs thinking they were getting a bargain!!!
