  1. james, firstly thanks for the link,,,, I agree with above comments, thats why I stock pile all my nice stuff and utilise it myself,i hate selling anything other than oak beams, have yew, elm, apple etc just waiting to make into stuff, and when I do,,its the lovely wood that sells the product on its own, nothing goes too waste here,,all the small off cuts get made into wine stopers,,,

  7. just the fact that there is another layer inbetween my hands and the vibration means that my hands dont absorb 100% of the effect, I know when I spend all day turning theres a huge difference noticed after 10 minutes on bigger items, ive got a pair of the fingerless ones and they also protect me from the bark coming off too:thumbup1:
  8. i use em for woodturning,,makes a huge difference,,, if your turning all day, chainsawing logs,or even on my motorbike,,,less fatigue,,,

  11. just wouldnt take the risk putting any of that wood in my stack,,far too much burr elm too loose, even if I would more than likely treat it, I`ve some apple I cut last yr, I`ll plane a piece up and show you the grain, in pear its usually bland, slight pinky, colour,(now Im sure theres some lovely stuff around too) but your right, there might be some solid wood in it for something small like knife scalles etc,,,
  12. steer clear james,,from my experience thats far too risky, and having milled a fair few bits ,not had much luck finding good charachter stuff, apple is a different story,,,
  13. the guy on the unicycle s called tom,,,hes a street entertainer from sidmouth,,,,,amazingly talented bloke, and timeless too watch, find myself putting a fiver in every year,,,,

  17. dont own one to be honest james,,,i drawknife, and axe everything,,,bought all the arbotech stuff and use very little of it,,,,,spend your money on a good anglegrinder pad and crack on...just spent another day at a show in london today,,blinding,,very rewarding for all my hard winter hours,,,
  18. hi james ,firstly looks like its oak,,,but pictures not great,(and irrelavant anyway,) you could axe off the worst loose bark, I use a drawknife when needed, then a turboplane if you have one, or a sanding pad in a anglegrinder,
  19. all the best john, good news on yr mrs,,,,
