  1. Everyone is on the Steinbeck at the moment! I enjoyed the grapes of wrath and Of mice and men but I found Cannery row a bit of a struggle for some reason. East of Eden has been on the shelf for a while...I'll get around to it one day, maybe once I've finished the Game of thrones, which is actually really good.
  2. I'm looking for a saw to run a 30"+ Bar on something along the lines of a 395 or ms660. Im located in Devon. Drop me a pm if you've got something I might be interested in.
  3. I think these things are fairly easy to pick out, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I remember one of these adds I enquired about a while ago I asked for a phone number and they claimed they couldn't talk because of recent throat surgery...I kept them convinced I was really interested until I got bored and sent them probably the most abusive email I've ever written. I got a bit of satisfaction imagining them getting excited and then reading a torrent of swear words. It's just a shame that nobody can do anything about it, I can't imagine the police would care.
  4. Not sure if they cover as far up as you but I got my burner from Dean Forge, they deal with a lot of different stoves and wood burners so know what they're talking about so could be worth a ring. I ended up getting one of their own brand wood burners and it's excellent, does all the heating and hot water with ease:thumbup: Wood burning Stoves and Multifuel Stoves from Dean Forge - Dean Forge
  5. I'm sure others have noticed the JD 2850 on Arbtrader, I've seen a lot of these kind of things on Ebay but not anywhere else, seems strange to have made it onto here:confused1:. I sent a message asking about the tractor and got this response: "It's still for sale. Immaculate condition, no damages, nothing to worry about. All necessary documents are available. My current location is Scotland, due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £4,150 delivered at my costs. Are you familiar to eBay? I will list the tractor on eBay Motors for £4,150 buy it now price and I will send you the link of my listing, so you can buy it immediate. As soon as you will secure the funds to eBay, the delivery willl begin and the tractor will be delivered to you in max. 48 hours. In case you are not familiar with them, please read their eBay Money Back Guarantee and will see that the transaction is 100% covered up to £50,000. You will receive the tractor with all the documents. As you know, eBay is the best company in online transactions where the distance is a problem. If you are a serious buyer and have the funds available, I will list it on eBay for you, as I have a 100% positive feedback with them. I'm using eBay to sell it safely, since I'm not able to make the sale in person. You don't have to worry, it will be a safe transaction, since it will covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee. Let me know if you are ready to buy it and I will give you more info. I'm waiting for your e-mail."
  6. I had an otter box for about 6 months but the rubber bit around the outside got so loose i had to get a new one, it was pretty rubbish from the day it was put on. I've got a CaseMate tough case now and it's much better, dropped it 20ft onto concrete the other day and it was fine.
  7. Think it's 14mm. Someone said it could be from an Aec matador.... Would a 6.5ton do the whole tree?? Couldn't ever move anything that big with the current winch, it would just drag tractor.
  8. I'm looking into replacing my very old pto driven tractor winch but I don't know what sort of size I should be looking at. Trouble is i have no idea what pull my current one is, it's a bit of beast though, just a bit dangerous. I've attached a photo of it if anyone thinks they might know what it is and where it came from?? And don't worry I replaced the cable before it was used. I've attached some photos of the normal size of tree we are winching. Normally pulling from approx 60m distance. I'm only using it on the farm so not looking to spend a fortune, although it would be used fairly regularly.
  9. Thanks for the help Eddie. The quick hitch I have does have the pin that you have to manually put in which also acts as a safety pin. I think I can agree with you that the 161 punches above its weight after the events of today. As you can see i managed to bend two points on the grapple, apparently the first person to do that on one of these grapples. The company are going to send me another complete unit with extra reinforcing all free of charge, which seems pretty decent.
  10. The machine is a kubota 161 and I think the hitch is a rhino quick hitch. Cheers
  11. Thanks for the help. Could I get around the problem by getting a curved arm made up then move the plate up??
  12. I've finally got around to getting a grapple for the digger, but I'm having a bit of an issue working out where to mount it. To me it looks like to pad on the dipper is too low, but I tacked it on further up and still had the problem of the arm catching the bottom of the dipper and bending it?? It looks like it needs a curved arm but I just wanted to check and make sure I'm not having a special moment.
  13. Thanks for the reply. Perhaps saying "am I covered" wasn't the right wording. I'm a farmer so driving tractors and dealing with machinery is something I have a bit of a experience with, I've been using a tractor mounted winch for timber for some years now and I have CS30/31. A simpler way of putting the question across would be asking if I went to cut and winch a down tree for someone else, would I be legal? (Although I believe that chainsaw qualifications aren't a legal requirement, perhaps best not to get into that one)
  14. I've asked this question to a few people so far and got mixed replies so thought I best ask on here and see if i get a definitive answer. If a tree of any size falls on the ground, for any reason, am I covered to cut that tree if I have CS30? Or is it classed as a windblown tree? Also, if I then want to get the tree out using a tractor winch is there separate requirements for using the winch etc....? I'm only cutting wood for myself on my own property but just wanted to know what was correct Thanks
  15. A friend of mine had one just like that and it was terrible! Tested it off road and at the time I had a crap old 200tdi disco with semi bald road tyres on it, he had 6 Bf MT tyres on and I wiped the floor with it, the back axle is just a waste of time. He thought he looked cool though:001_rolleyes:!
  16. Cheers for the replies. If anyone's got anything that they think might be what I want send me PM, even if it needs a bit of work I might just be interested
  17. 066 sounds like a good saw from what I've read, can't find many for sale though? Unless someone on here happens to have one tucked away somewhere?
  18. Was just reading an older thread about problems with the chain brake on the MS660, is that a problem that still happens??
  19. Wouldn't be using it too often, I'm only a farmer . I'd quite like to have a go at milling with it as well, I don't like chopping everything up for firewood
  20. Im looking at getting a bigger saw as I've got some lumps of wood around that are a bit too large for my 346, I'd be looking at around a 36" bar, what would anyone recommend? Would be buying a used saw not a new one, trying to save a few pennies. Thanks
  21. Im going to have to agree with most of the comments on here, don't do it to yourself! Unless you love spending hours working on land rovers till late at night, which for some reason lots of people do! I had a 300tdi 90 for many years, rebuilt it on a galvanised chassis, polybushes, cleaned all the steel parts back and repainted it all and lots and lots of other new parts and it was still in the workshop all the time. Not to mention if you like being cold, cramped, getting dripped on (don't worry about the drips, the draughts in the cab will soon dry you out) and not being able to hear yourself think. Oh and 99% of land rovers come with a self lubricating system built in! Just make sure you keep your steering fluid and engine oil topped up and everything under the engine bay and on the front axle should have a nice coating of oil on it I would also recommend something like a daihatsu fourtrak, I bought one many years ago for £80 just to use around the farm and it was brilliant, really good offroad, fantastic engine and almost indestructible like you can see in this very childish and badly edited video I made many years ago [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRk9dPfzrhs]4x4 jumps! - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Thanks for all the replies. I ended up going to my local digger guy who sold me my post driver, he supplies these Grapple & Thumbs | SPK-Equip , I like to keep it local if I can and he was reasonably priced at £895 for a grapple, But thanks for all the help!
  23. Not sure if it's on any help but I'd vote for the Vector, before I bought one for my 5tonner I went and had a look at a protech some contractors where using on a 3.5t and their advice was buy the Vector, they also said the protech they had was too much for the 3.5ton machine. Not the best quality photos but gives you an idea!
  24. Looking to get a grapple for a 5ton machine, anyone have any recommendations? I'd look at both hydraulic and fixed ones, depending on the price, a rotator isn't really necessary but it'd be a bonus if it wasn't to much monies! Cheers
  25. Just bumping my thread up, see if anyones got anything:thumbup: cheers!
