  1. I'm trying to work out the best option for getting timber back to the yard from a job. I've got tractors & trailers but they're geared for farm work, I've been using my loader tractor for loading timber but it's taking a battering! Options I can think of are- timber trailer, this only does one job though. Fitting a crane/hiab to one of the trailers or Sourcing an ag registered truck with a hiab, which would be very versatile, useful for farm work as well, faster on the road and look awesome! Which is always important ! but it's another machine to maintain and expensive. What's your thoughts?
  2. Cheers for the replies, mostly helpful.....some not so much:)! Reason for asking is I've just been to look at a job that someone else refused to do, it's a nice beech but not out of the ordinary. Just thought it was a bit unusual
  3. When a customer asks for a perfectly healthy larger tree to be removed how do you deal with it? Push for an alternative? Refuse? Or just get on with it before someone else does?
  4. Ideal thanks, I wasn't sure how similar they are. I kept all of the paperwork when I did mine a few years back so I'll dig that out for him. Thanks again!
  5. A friend has a Lantra cs30&31 equivalent but it's 10+years old, could he do nptc refresher training to go for his nptc tickets or would he have to do a full course?
  6. That's the type of thing! Did you put that together? Does it work well? Costly? Thanks
  7. Just found this http://www.marshall-trailers.co.uk/uploads/images/E_D_Thomas.jpg That kind of thing!
  8. I've been wondering whether it'd be a possibility to mount a crane/hiab on my tractor bale trailer? Has anyone tried something similar to this? An if so is it more hassle than it's worth? The trailers 26ft. I was also thinking some short bolsters would be really useful. Any thoughts?
  9. Jay gave me a link to this which I'm finding useful http://www.abcawards.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Qualifications//1381-TOP__Qualification%20Guide.pdf As for other peoples notes, I personally wouldn't want to use them I don't think, mostly because I'm finding that taking my own notes and doing research helps with absorbing the information. But that's just me Good luck with the course, I'm only in the early stages of it but I'm finding it a lot more interesting that I anticipated.
  10. My 54plate mwb semi high top transit has pretty much come to the end of its life as it's rusted so badly it's not worth repairing. So I'm now looking for a replacement van of a similar size. Choices seem to be either another transit, merc sprinter or vw lt35. Wanted to see what people thought about the newer transits or the other options? Ideally I want something that doesn't rust too badly and is good on fuel
  11. Thought I'd bump this one! Keen as beans, but can't commit to anything other than the odd day here and there!
  12. Had a look in the Collins last night, pretty sure it was a Lawson cypress but not 100%. Was a good long day!
  13. Looking for experienced freelance climbers . Dartmoor & surrounding areas. If you're interested send me a PM Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. Had a climber drop out of a job last minute, job is near Ashburton, Devon. Willing to pay good rate as short notice. Pm me or ring 07816149366 Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. Ended up putting a another crank in it. Fitted and running now although it seems a bit lean...I've never played around with a chainsaw carb, is there a standard point I can turn the H + L screws to work from? I have a suspicion they've been played with in the past. I put new crank seals in so that shouldn't be a problem and the carb boot looks good. Anything else to look for? Cheers
  16. I've just had a quick look through some of the threads about the saw pod, looks like it could be the answer for me, the only time I feel like I might drop it is getting it in and out of the sheath. Although I don't fancy spending the money just yet so I might bodge something out of some old knee pad straps just to see if I like it. Some good ideas on here though!
  17. This may have been covered on another thread but I'm looking for ideas on how to attach the silky to harness incase of dropping? I've seen someone using a retractable dog lead...which isn't a bad idea but a bit bulky Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Shame you're so far away, you could've had one of these little terrors! JR x Patterdale maybe something else in there too
  19. Sounds like a good call. Will the new crank need truing or are they good to go? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  20. Cheers for offer of help wiseco, if I get stuck I'll give you a shout. There's a crank + seals & bearings on eBay for about £80 which seems a good price, not sure on the quality though? I've only recently fitted a non genuine pot and piston anyway. I was planning on getting a 36" bar to replace the 25" so I could do some milling but if I do that the amount I've spent on the saw I could've got a decent 660! Is there much between the 066 & 660? I don't use it enough to warrant a new machine, used 660s on eBay are crazy money...if anyone knows one for sale I could be interested. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  21. Hi, Just been using the 066 and it came to an abrupt stop, which is never good, so I've stripped in down and the bottom end bearing has disintegrated.... I'm now wondering whether to slap it on Ebay and use the money toward a 660 or similar OR to take out the crank and replace? I assume it's easier to put a whole new crank and con rod in?? Thanks
  22. I'm looking to get some more on the job experience as I've not got enough on to keep me learning. Willing to do pretty much anything provided I'm given the opportunity to learn from experienced climbers/ground staff. Unfortunately I can't commit to something full time but I can do odd days here and there. I've got my own transport and willing to travel some distance. CS 30,31,38&39 and pretty much most of my own gear & saws. Mobile signal is patchy so Drop me a message if you've got something coming up. Thanks
  23. No idea what the story with that was, driving past it does look weird, hasn't been that windy recently either......pixies??? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. That brings me on to plan B. Wait of some heavy rainfall, fell into river, go home. Easy! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  25. Hi matt, can't tell exactly what weights you could pull, without running over a weigh bridge estimating weights is tricky , depending on the load. I would just say go steady and you'll get a feel for it's capability. You'll soon find out if your overloaded as soon as you start going down a hill, often resulting in a brown trouser moment!
