  1. Afternoon all. Apologies if this has been covered before. After a couple of dusty days milling and a very dusty yard (not my mess) I am on the lookout for a dustmask or similar. I don't really want loads of throw away ones and was thinking maybe the over the head mask/visor would be the way to go. Ideally want something that allows easy breathing and doesn't fog up too much when a get a sweat on dragging the lucas carriage plus I could use it when it gets a bit dusty on the flail mowing Thanks for any thoughts
  2. I have exactly the same thoughts watching my lucas. Often considered ( but never actually done) downrating the springs from 3.5 to 2.6t. Fine for the mill but poor for a good overhanging load of sawlogs. I've put it in a 10' ifor on the single spring, def rides better but as you say rubbish for anything heavy. I am slowly coming to the conclusion a panel van might be the way to go, just another vehicle to buy!
  3. Sorry slight derail. I've always had ifor trailers 12' flat, 14' triax, 10' tipper. Just wondering do the indespension type setup ride any better than leafs. Never been a problem before but hate seeing the lucasmill bounce about on the quality potholed highways of Oxfordshire! Been thinking about getting another tipper or a maybe box trailer for the job Cheers

    AWD panel van?

Thanks Eddie, sounds good, I don't think I'll own another landrover!!

    AWD panel van?

The main thing is the carriage for the mill. its about 8' long. anything else can go on the roof/trailer. I think with a m/lwb I could get the lot on without towing. Rails are 6m. Could also get a pedestrian mower or rideon brushcutter in the back?

    AWD panel van?

open to suggestions really but guess above 3.5t i'm looking at operators licence.
  8. My yard is about 10 miles from Logosol in Oxford so if you are down/up and fancy a cuppa just shout

    AWD panel van?

After much head scratching I have decided an awd panel van would be useful addition. I need to move much Lucas mill/pedestrian flail about and hate seeing it bounce about on a trailer on our quality roads! 4x4 sprinter would be great but none are about second hand. Lwb transporter would be lovely but again hard to find as a 'work van' not a kombi or camper. Does anyone have any experience of awd transit-looks like could be an option?
  10. Not sure if the new Logosol is a rebrand or their own machine but it looks decent from the brief look I had at it? Their office is near me and they have been super helpful in the past. I have a Lucas which is awesome but i would love a bandsaw too!
  11. Just had a quick look at urban-forest website. Better info and looks a bit more Europe based, thanks
  12. Thanks guys. Yes i need to do a lot more reading. Im all for thinking/working outside the box but dont want them to waste money (maybe plant more trees conventionally instead?) my main concern is there is only 12-18 topsoil on site then down on to chalk/flint. They want to dig down a meter and add loads of organic matter but seems a bit wrong dragging up a load of subsoil. I’ll keep you posted on how things progress
  13. I have been asked by a friend to help plant some trees/woodland. They are keen to use the Miyawaki method and have sent me a link to Aforestt website. Its definately different techniques to my very basic knowledge of planting and was wondering if anyone has knowledge of it or if it works in tempate zones. I’m trying to keep an open mind but not sure you can grow ‘hundred year old forest in 10 years’
  14. Nice video thanks! I definitely need to sort out my yard this summer
  15. The customer is keeping the long boards-i think they might end up as a table or shelves. We had some of the smaller 2-3' bits, maybe a knife handle or 2 and hopefully find someone with more skills than me to do something with the rest:)
  16. Haha well its there to be used. Ive already bent a winch handle and ripped teeth off a blade. I thought it was just my mates round here that used ‘horsing’
  17. Yeah its done a bit but im trying to look after it:)
  18. This was Fridays job milling some walnut and a bit of yew!
  19. Give Logosol a ring they are pretty helpful!
  20. Much as i love it i think its time to part with my alpine. Any thoughts on what it would be worth? bcs invictus 35hp plus timber trailer and skidding winch. Also have chipper, flail, box grader and roller. Cheers. I will stick on arbtrader when i have worked out price
  21. Yeah thats what I guessed. I might make hedging stakes out of it as they only need to do a year or 2
  22. Good evening. A friend has just asked if I can mill some floorboards. I have a load of oak but also have some scots and grand fir in the yard. The fir is in nice big straight butts but growth rings look massive- would it be worth milling either for flooring or anything else. Was thinking of just banging out some big beams and getting them treated to build a new shed. Thanks
