  1. hi all ive been self employed since 2008,working as a tree and garden service. most of my work is garden related,grass cutting,hedge cutting,etc and the odd tree here and there [some trees have been large]but the felling was on open ground i can complain,because since 2008 my work has really took off and i have plenty of work all through the summers,winter a bit tight but last year i subbed for 6 months'[tree and vegetation clearance] well my passion is tree work,just passed cs38/39 and want to push for more tree work i have pl insurance[ 1 million] for my garden work with the felling of small tree included,but now want to update for arborist/climbing work know any good uns[/CO:thumbup1::thumbup1:LOR] thanks martyn
  2. i agree,just done 38/39 with proclimber and the owner andrew lewis[the owner] was our assessor,he was wearing the proclimber smock,which is fully water proof,tight fitting and breathable,with no pockets to snag[if you climb] he did state not the cheapest but a very good water proof coat take a look at the proclimber website:thumbup1:
  3. thanks......the word on the street was when you reach 35 you are passed it for climbing:blushing: well the proofs in the pudding,and the 50 year olds on the course with me were climbing like teenagers:lol:

  5. just get out there and enjoy,as you know its all about safety to yourself and others,our assessor was a great guy,he just wanted us to show a safe working posistion and then your 4 cuts -sink cut free fall,step cut free fall,sink cut hand held and step cut hand held ps and the final prunning cut best of luck to you:thumbup1:
  6. cs 38/39 in the bag.. today myself and the 3 other old farts passed 38/39 [i posted a thread,when on my 5 days training,how i thought i would be the oldest climber at 39,the others were 53 and two@ 52] but we all passed,i did enjoy ONLY ONE REGRET,SHOULD HAVE DONE IT 20 YEARS AGO MARTYN..

  12. just finished my 5 days training for cs38/39 and enjoyed. the big day monday? reason for post heading,i am 39 and thought i would be the old man on the course? the other 3 [ones 53 and two are 52] so like i said,i am a spring chicken:laugh1:

  19. hi sean have you tried knighton countryside managment,they are based in dorchester [dorset] i have done sub work for them 3 times and i live in south wales. the last time i worked for them was from sept 09 to march 10 [6 months] hedge laying and fencing on 3 farms in brecon,hay on wye and peterchurch they save my skin for work through the winter. the foremans name was julian cooper and i think he was also a previous foreman as a dorset countryside ranger[he was a great fella to work with/for] best of luck in your search regards martyn
  20. i only knew it was a foxglove,because it had a name tag?[so did all the other trees in the garden]
  21. thanks john,just had a post from gavin,he saw one in flower in kew i will return to see this tree in flower,abergavenney is only half hour run from me and we have been going there for years,has we like the town did not know the gardens were there,we came across them by accident:blushing:
