  4. Dont think its seen much use just bin left in a shed for ages, and seems pretty well put together. For a free saw i cant complain.
  5. Just been given one for nothing . Its a non starter but i think its just a case of replacing the piston rings. Any opinions Good/bad saw etc???
  6. Think i have replied to one of your posts before. Based outside of thame and currently studying NCH arb will be fully qualified as a trainee climber by late june. Owain
  7. I find my climbing improves alot using the duo when compared to other harnesses. and never have problems with discomfort. I feel i can move around the tree alot easier.
  8. Oh god they finally went and gave it the go ahead! it'll only end in tears! we have enough problems with accidentally introduced species.
  9. Climbed on a duo 2 and thats what made my mind on getting one. So when i went to the shop the duo 3 was only a fiver extra so went for it. Havnt looked back since. Great harnesses!
  10. does the saw dust in the holes give off a goat like smell? the goat moth is more than capable of doing damage to the tree and causing rot. and from what i've read they prefer poplars.
  11. I dont get it, at the top it says "you are bidding on one seasoned hardwood log, ebay rules" and then below says a hilux load???
  12. I work with my boss doing the firewood for the getty estate, met of them a few but never spoken to them. They seem like nice people though.
  13. I wouldnt worry too much i had to do 9 months volunteering for my course and didnt get paid a penny
  14. Cheers for that . I had a feeling it may be ganoderma lucidum. But was lacking any stalk so gave up trying to id.
  15. Found these brackets growing on a fallen beech at college and still have no idea as to what they are??? Red and shiny on top, and spongy on the underneath.
  16. Is that Phil Dunford in the picture?
  17. just got back from a night out in Thame. Gonna feel worse for it tomorrow! Merry christmas arb folk.
  18. Ok having looked at a few pics on the web i have come round the the idea that it is a fox. Cant really see any evidence of ginger hair. But i did not make that assumption on the formation of the teeth, but on the shape of the skull. Is it the number of teeth that distuinguish the two or the formation of the teeth? Dont take this wrong just keen to know. Owain
  19. No worries, like they say its the thought that counts
  20. Right then, its ok though havnt oiled it yet. Im just gonna have to let it do its own thing i think. I would have used an already dry board but the only wood i have access to is left out doors to season as timber and then processed into firewood, it was one of those last minute gift ideas whilst i was ringing it up for splitting. may have another go at it later in the year though. So i'll have a try with sycamore and let it dry thoroughly before starting any work. Thanks for the help Owain
  21. Teeth seem too large to be a fox and the skull has a too broad shape. Another pointer may be that if it was thrown in the hedge someone wanted it out of sight whenever we shoot a fox we tend to leave it rather than handling it, orrible things in my opinion. but you wouldnt want joe bloggs finding shot badgers on your land could land someone in hot water.
  22. Ah so i'll just have to blag the cracking as a more "rustic look". I was wondering where tung oil was sourced. i have plenty of linseed oil although theres a hazard triangle on the back with a warning about contact with the eyes and skin so im guessing it wouldnt be appropriate for contact with food. Even though pure linseed oil is used in cooking . Shouldnt be too much of a problem though as none of my family have any nut allergies. But thanks for the heads up, would be pretty bad if we had a guest round and sent them into shock! Cheers Owain
  23. Its definitely a badger skeleton. Most likely the badger has bin shot by someone and thrown in the hedge out of sight.
  24. Cheers guys that websites alot of help. Put it in the porch now so it doesnt dry out as quickly. May also oil it now to prevent the water escaping too quickly. As always very helpful guys.
