  1. what a world we live in, we only grit privately owned car parks, business centres and office blocks wouldnt touch anything council as they will pass all responsibility onto you the contractor, our clients sign a disclaimer so we are not held liable should someone trip/crash etc but they are covered by there health and safety as they have taken appropriate action to minimise risk of slip and trips, bit of a grey area and you need to be carefull.
  2. Wickes charge £5.41 for 25kg b&q is £3.99 but are sold out best i can get it bagged is £2.80 brown rock salt or £3.15 white rock salt if order 1000+ bags at a time, i find the hanson salt is the best as soon as it hits the ice it starts popping - hope your not putting it lose in the pickup!

  6. Blimey That Looks Bad! the sliding back plate on pic 3 i removed from mine as i found it a nuisance my ram does weep a bit but never had to put anymore than a cupfull of hydraulic oil in 3yrs, i also took the 4 way splitting head off mine and i find it works much better (depends on what your splitting). Would of thought that would be replaced no questions asked.
  7. i dont leave customers property without cash in my hand have had before 'will put cheque in the post' which surprisingly never arrives dont even take cheques anymore unless they are regular repeat customers, delivered two loads of seasoned oak to a local pub once who never paid sent several invoices / letters then got fed up and waded in on a busy sunday lunchtime saying 'dont want to cause a scene but im here for my money' surprisingly the till opened and i got my money.
  8. i had the same problem done my back in after couple of hours at 6'8 the ground feels along way down after severel hours splitting, i found away round this by placing the splitter on the concrete apron to our garages then standing on the lower ground varies between 18-24" also put small rings on base to required height works the same as a table.
  9. its a heavy lump to pull around its ok on fairly level ground, on soft ground or slopes i pull it with the quad or pickup, i wouldnt fancy pulling it up a trailer by hand.
  10. its not terribly noisy i find if using it for severel hours the noise can give you a headache.

  14. Andy; we do gritting on commercial premises mainly business parks and car parks to get in with these contracts its not what you know but who you know! we started doing a contract on a particular business park for one occupier now we do 70% of the entire business centre, there is money to be had but its not all good going out everynite between 22:00-05:00 becomes a chore. buy your rock salt in summer and have good stocks for winter (try buying salt at the moment). oh and when someone slips /crashes its you they come to sue! so have good insurance. these guys are up your neck of the woods Icewatch - Keeping your car parks and walkways ice-free
