  1. Cheers for the tip about the anvil bolts Dean.............next problem is finding 'burly' Portuguese mates!...They're all little fellas!
  2. Got a TW 190 with 500 hrs on it and has started to 'shred' rather than chip (especially Eucalyptus). Wondering if it may be the 'anvil' or base blade that needs turning, but is it a job for the DIY'er (got a feeling the hopper's gotta come off etc). Anyone had experience of this or is it a job for Timberwolf tech? Any ideas much appreciated.
  3. I've got a 3/way tipping 3.5t Canter and, as said before, it carries loads well (even with the huge high sides I put on!) Parts are a little pricey but pattern parts are available (lamp lenses etc.). A bit heavy on the juice but mine's a double-cab and pulling a Timberwolf 190. If you're using it in hot weather, I've found the one design fault is the rad. Not enough air passes over it and the intercooler is stuck in front of it! All round a good, tough truck.
  4. Mmmmm...... 11mm and a LockJack - way cool
  5. Too true, especially for me in Janey's borough as I was on Ealing '88 - '92, back for a bit in '95 then returned '04 - '06. So have worked on nearly every tree in the goddamn borough! It's strange to see trees you remember working on like 15 year's ago realising that it's probably been 'attended' to at least twice since. The nicest thing is seeing trees you planted 16 year's previously and knowing they're doing well. I think you can only get 'Tree Blinkers' from the tool boxes of some of the less reputable 'Loppers and Toppers' that ply their trade around West London
  6. Told this one to Sir Cliff Richard yesterday whilst felling a Pepper Tree in his garden on the Algarve.... What do the donkeys on Blackpool beach get for their lunch? .............Half an hour, same as everyone else!! Cliff seemed to like it. And he'd never seen a stump grinder before, so we impressed the hell out of him too!
  7. “Why don’t you give me another 1...........!! Where are they? Alabama?
  8. You could charge extra for aerating the client's lawn!!: 001_smile: My Bashlins came with some sort of 'profiler' (which is now lost) as seen in the kit that Jonesie has pictures; but as stated before, get your edge back by filing the inside face, then take off burrs from the outside edges.....works for me.
  9. So it does rain in the land of the long white cloud! Man, you were lucky! Either that or you only weigh 50kg's wringing-wet!!lol Why don't you splice a proper eye in the end? Then it can serve as your 'retrieval hook' and you won't have to worry about clipping in by mistake.
  10. Yeah, got that, been using ART Rope Guide for about 18 months. I understand the pulley thing now, I use a DMM roller krab off a sling near my anchor point and set up as you described, if I know I'm in for some long 'up-and-downs'! It gives a 3xMA but ascent is slow because of this. I usually get the brash rat to pull on my line while I just sit there, have a fag and a drink and wait for him to pull me to the top!
  11. How does that work?, the second pulley thing you mention? And what is an ART saver? Excuse my ignorance!
  12. Sorry! I must be tying it wrong 'cos I can't get my VT's to self-tend. Did you see the other vid using 2 Pantins? That looked interesting and a lot less tiring on one leg.
  13. If you want a 'self-tendering' system, ditch the VT and get a LockJack! Runs great with 11.5mm line (XTC Blaze) after about 15 feet of line has gone through it. Scary though on the descent!!
  14. Hi Simon. That is one good-looking piece of kit which, if it does what it says on the tin, will be a boon to all us cash-strapped arborists who can't afford the 'name brands'. I saw your listing on eBay only a day before it became a topic on here, can you give me a shipping cost to Lagos, Algarve, Portugal? List it on eBay and I'll buy one straight away via PayPal. Let me know if you can. And thanks for being inventive!
  15. Spike 'em, they won't feel anything through the 'husks'. (see pic) Make sure you don't nick any of the fronds you want to keep, even the smallest cut weakens and can kill a frond
  16. oopps! How come the damn thing (the pic, not the tree!) has come out so big?
  17. L.B. Ealing. Horse Chestnut dismantle with crane. [i[/img]
  18. Thanks Alex. I'll try that. Incidentally, I've also got a brand new in pack carb for MS200 if you need it, sorry to hear about your experience on fleabay.
  19. Hi Deer Man. Can you explain, slowly, how to reduce picture file size? I've got some I'd like to post but all seem to be too large. Thanks in advance from an old, techno-phobic arborist!
  20. Get a stump grinder in there, if access permits. Don't do digging, me!
  21. Thanks for all the advice above, I haven't tried the 'boring' cut idea, got one to bring down on Wednesday, so I'll give that a bash. Hiabs and the like are a bit out of my league at the mo' just running 2 tippers (Canter & Dyna), a 190 Timberwolf and a 210 Bear Cat but I reckon if cut length-ways to a reasonable size, the chippers would handle it. Thanks again.
