  1. It seems we are all have to do a course:sleep1:, just to read a book, what happend to freedom of imformation:001_tongue: My biggest issue is asking simple questions by email, to training companys about the possiblility of refresher courses and or assessment only, and not ever getting an email back. a simple no we don't do that cause your too small, answer would be good. then i can move forward to the next step of full training and pissing money down the drain to get my tickets:001_tongue: Lots of happy cause i'm past the point where I'm disgruntled any more about NPTC. its now just a grin and bear it opinion.
  2. if i don't see it touch it test run it. i don't buy, unless it's something simple and cheap.
  3. I Think, thats totaly out of order, they should'nt even be putting their tools in the TPA. weather the Tree Protection Officer give's a monkeys is another thing all together. They are nice group of coper beech. I lived just up the road by the chippy. mmm chips... would'nt mind some now???
  4. I hugged a horse's leg and it kicked me in the head when i was 4. do you think i can sue my dad for not black and yellow hazzard taping the horse hoof, as an identifiable hazzard.
  5. I had to go self employed, because I didn’t want to go on the power lines again, really I just wanted a job, dragging, chipping, lowering, felling, surveying, climbing. I didn’t want to start my own set up and I still don’t, I just wanted to climb. I realise that the best way of achieving this is to get qualified and get a car, and get back into self employment, but to be honest; I can earn more guaranteed money at a hostel for less work and stress. So I recon, the best way to climb will be to get my tickets and go back to Australia. We don’t have so many workers rights, so there are more jobs.. Having rights is great, but it’s if you can’t get a job you cant exercise them… go figure… but it might have changed, it has been 6 years, since I left Aus. I still want to choose my own kit, what ever I do
  6. brought all my own kit when I was a subbie, even if i was employed, I would want to choose my own kit regardless of who pays my. my kit selection, is part of the skill i have as a climber, good kit easy climbing, poor kit lots of swearing..
  7. I draged brash fed chippers, cleared powerlines from EWP, never got to climb much but I came from nothing, i did'nt even know you could climb trees for a living, i'd never seen a tree surgeon working from a rope and harness, before I started with The Tree Specialists Australia, I was nothing, in a way I owe them a lot, they gave me a go at climbing but I was'nt as good as the other guy "daisy" so I ended up at the bottom of the pile, it was'nt until I was a supervisor that I could put my self up the tree from time to time... But mostly ive been lucky to work for climbers who started in the bussiness for the same reasons as me, they let me climb. mainly because it stops me complaining so much, and its a good laugh to see how seriously awful I am up a tree.. you think i'd be able to climb a tree with out ending up tangled in my own ropes hanging upside down. but then again I can never figure out which boot goes on which foot... so why they let me near a tree a chainsaw and some rope, I have no idea....
  8. might not be any thing to do with the local Gypsy Site might even be some one with a seemingly legitimate set up. money motivates.
  9. My biggest issue is what little bad habbits have I picked up that from day to day i just assume are good work practice. Where can you do a refresher courses, and/or assessment sfor CS 38 and 39, preferably close as possible to North wales? Vince..
  10. Ive have sthil hiflex off an old boss, they were really light weight and easy to climb in but just keep getting ripped, and they are to too warm in summer. the stretch airs I had in 2005 were too heavy but loose which made them good in summer I did'nt get chaffed like the sthils. and the lasted, untill i spilt batery acid on them, I am using some of the old materiel to patch the sthils outer fabric, looks great red patches on black.
  11. check your mind howd it get so bad, what happened to those other underpants you had? Great and my girlfriend love it too she's not so sure about the series, more the music.
  12. a guy I used to work for in norfolk used to send me out on my own all the time.. usualy on cut price mates rates stuff, I used to have to climb cut drag and stack and then the chipper guy would rock up later. the only way i could get a groundy apart from refusing the work was if i needed some one to lower stuff. and that person although verry skilled on a lowering rope, could not have rescued me. The only tickets I had were 30/31 Climbing is the most rewarding work i can find, out side of the groundy rope lowering work.. Not every one is breaking the rules for the money, some of us just really like the work we do. infact I left tree surgury because the take home money was'nt as good as working in a back packing hostel.
  13. whats wrong with that????
  14. Last year lots of second hand tools and craft stores, not much arb stuff.. strange with the tree climb and all. not much happens in north wales. good bar, if only was still a drinker. and good food tent good pole climbing and chainsaw carving.
  15. There is another thread called pet hates, i posted on there then thought, it looks like I hate everything...but i dont PET LOVES. Climbing Trees. Kit Take downs, Climbing with a Good groundy Grounding for a good climber. Gounding with lots of exciting lowering... almost as good as climbing. working in a 2 man company. just me and the boss... nice and simple. work in the diary. good boots good bed ...could go on and on
  16. Hey Cerne,

What helmet are you wearing in your avatar. is that one of the stien ones? is the visor any good, or is it just a fog trap.#?

  17. Climbers or boss's who dont respect their groundys enough to give them time to clean up, before it becomes a night marerish tangle of brash, "it takes a lot longer to untangle than it takes to do it as you go." and the respect goes both ways Senior staff on the phone while their supposed to be my groundy. having to help clear up after a hard climb because ground staff were on the phone or just watching me. Solo Jobs hedges utilitys work forestry work. rodo and laurell Ivy Boss's who say ... "just chuck it in the hedge" customers who say "while your here... could you do this little job" I could go on for ages, and just talk about work. V
  18. yep Circles... if the training worth paying for..... they wont fund it cause they know you will... job centre only ever seem interested in long term unemployed.. even then my long term unemployed mate only ever got the run around when he tried... defo ageist!!! the work will pay for the training, but not untill after you get the tickets, maybe they need to set up a student loan for nptc....
  19. o.m.g be good in the snow, do they do them in type c's Do they have one with a chainsaw proof balaclava and helmet sewn in.
  20. There's Lots of stuff online about this lots of conflicting opinions, also Runners World is a good resource. 30mins is pretty good. if you have any biomechanical probs, see a good sports physio, I did and he gave me some conditioning exercizes which re stableized my knee so I could run and ride again, (with out a knee brace). they were boring, but they allow me to do the stuff i love:001_smile: drink plenty of water and eat a good diet, you will get better results. Cross training is great, keeps it interesting allows you to use different muscles, I train beetween the bike, MTB trails/bike park, and trail/ fell running and walking, and a few other things. I loved my MP3 player when I first got back to running because it gave me somthing else to focus on, and made me run a bit harder on the down hills, I really like running to Smashing pumkins , or Live on fast rocky decents. now I am happier just to get lost in the activity, then to have the distraction.. If you get injured its a bummer.... rest, relax, recuperate, or it will only gets worse. V
  21. Funny thats what lantra said last time, but I wasn't then or now able to pay for training just too see some books. Good Point all the same. Thanks for the advice on the AGFAG stuff I'd forgotten about those.
  22. Thanks... thats good to know.. I'm just too much of a control freak There was a work book when I did basic chainsaw so i assumed that there were for all of them. every climber I worked with just did the assessment.
  23. thanks Ive seen the assesment schedules before... useful that i can down load them. Not quite what i'm looking for though, it's the work book you get when you do the course, goes over the tecnique, pretty pictures diagrames. have been advised by a few climbers that my climbing is good enough to go straight to assessment, i just want to get up to date with any changes... V:001_smile:
