  4. Mewp...... and then they use the mewp to dress it......last year they had us drilling holes in the stem and then poking branches into them to fill the gaps......mad!

Far too early for my liking but there you go..they like to have it up and fressed ready for the ice rink opening next week. Spent 5 hours there. Made one cut with the saw....just to level the base.......and that was it!! Time and a half thank you very much and free skating for the family.....oh and free gigs through out next year....woo hoo.
  8. back in May.....a great fomes beech in the park. Had another failure a couple of weeks ago...... doing a very light reduction on it next week with the mewp.....have also managed to persuade simon to erect a very small fence around it to prevent people climbing on (kids) and generally interfereing with the brackets as they are v.special:thumbup:

  17. Very informative thread tony...thanks. Is there any evidence that with the advent of fruiting with Fusipes that the fungi has been active in the roots for quite soe time and the damage has been done? Similar to merip for example?

tought some of you would be interested in this magazine....... Home | The Land
  19. No we dont......should speak with the powers regarding it really......cant put notices on individual trees as the deer will eat them!!! Might be worth putting info on the general info boards that are dotted around the entrances though. Will bring it up.
  20. couldnt resist the tux shot again eh?:001_smile:
  21. They generally rant and rave and generally kick off and then either ask questions or are appeased by my informative and persuasive manner. The beech have been causing a bit of a stir.....there are not many big ones left in the park so there has been alot of interest in the works. I must say though that on the whole they are generally interested and understand what we do. There is a minority who will just not listen to reason. They rant they rant they rant:thumbdown:
  22. Some over zealous tree officer probably had it felled years ago due to it being near a well used footpath:thumbdown:
  23. Have been doing works on some big beech trees the last week. This one with a big lean towards the public gardens. Extensive decay and hollow stem. Honey fungus, squamosis in evidence. Didnt want to do a conventional monoloith so decided to bring it right down whilst maintaining as much lower crown as poss. Will take the top out the morrow with the mewp. How it will fare we shall see. Did another two beech....one with extensive merip and the other with ustilina. Will post some pics of those two shortly.
