    Diseased Beech

That was my initial thoughts....although the top photograph needs rotating....it is in fact the vertical stem.....put a doubt in my head but no other pointers as to causes.
  5. Great tree David....no shots of the crown? Some of these trees never fail to amaze me.
  6. Quite a number of branches and parts of the main stem are affected.....what's going on?

  11. So in the afternoon I had to go and clear up this. A big limb. The tree had already lost one a couple of years ago. The main stem is now down for a large reduction. No fruiting bodies....last year either. Any thoughts?

  13. I had to go and remove as much as this Sycamore as I possibly could with a chainsaw. It had self seeded many years ago and is now hindering the excavation of these Sluice Gates which have been discovered. The gates controlled the water flow from the River Thames and the moat which surrounded Fulham Palace. They are from the 1840's. The archaeologists want to excavate them with a view to possibly restoring them but this sycamore is obviously causing them problems. I took it down as far as i could, resorting to small blocks at a time at the end. Remarkably the only time i buggered the saw was when I hit a stone right at the end. There was a labourer present who was moaning like mad because they were expecting him to remove the rest including the root plate with a hammer and chisel and a blunt axe.....in 2 days!....laugh i nearly p****d myself! Enjoyable job.
  14. Thats great that is....your own work david or somebody elses?......or is it the driad?
  15. Thanks David....It was just out of interest really.....i was writing about it last night for Tech Cert study and had poor photographs. It was just on the off chance really No worries. But if you do come across some would be interested to see them.

  20. Well it takes some quality photo's:thumbup1: I'm happy with my camera....although this autumn/winter i'm going to be dragging my 1967 Fuji 690 (6x9 cm negatives) landscape camera along to the park to document all the vets, monoliths etc for a little project of mine. It's a bit of a beast though but will hopefully capture the glory of them as the picture quality is very special!
  21. Are there grants or funding that can be used towards the upkeep of prominent trees in villages such as this one David? If not then there should be!
  22. :thumbup1: Here endeth the lesson:001_cool:
  23. pity them for being so bloody stupid to eat it in the first place!! What would they expect? You take some stunning photo's David...is it a digital SLR?
