  1. All the London water companies between 16th and 18th centuries used elms for their pipes because of their resistance to decay when immersed in water. In fact the Romans used elm too. The job of boring all these pipes was arduous to say the least.....hence the term 'boring job'.....'i'm bored'!!!
  2. Not much to say about these really.....just wanted to share them. Really like the compartamentalization ones though.

  6. doesnt sound appealing but apparently it really helps....... There are also additional steps that can be taken to help defend yourself against flu. Cold showers: Scientific studies have now backed up what naturopaths have been saying for years - that taking a cold shower every day can greatly improve your immunity to viruses. The theory goes that the shock of the cold water stimulates the body into warming itself up and raising its core temperature - which destroys cold and flu viruses. If you are suffering from flu, taking a cold shower may seem like purgatory but the same study concluded that it can shorten the duration of an infection, too.

  16. What an amazing morning. No rain for starters and a really misty start to the day. Its the best i've seen Richmond Park for quite a while. Breakfat wa staken looking towards Pen Ponds......watching the sun come up and the mistly slowly disperse. It was magical....and the fried egg and chorizo roll with coffee tasted even better than usual. And so to Beverly Brook to clear up a fallen willopw which had succumbed to the ravaging Ganoderma. Pulled the short straw so it was me donning the waders. Pretty straight forward job. Sling, rope, landrover.....cut pole tow out.....next. The willow had formed a dam for the best part of a week so plenty of detritus but the environment made up for any negative aspects........

  19. So here's some shots of the Caucasian Elm down the road. There are actually quite a few. I'm fascinated by these trees. With regards the bio mechanics......as you can see MonkeyD as you suggested there are plenty of natural grafts going on. I'm so looking forward to getting up there and photographing some of these grafts at close quarters.
  20. Tree officer will normally stipulate that all works should be carried in accordance with BS 3998.......make yourself aware of said document if you not already
