  1. i would be interested in clearing log type wood, sussex/surrey/kent, large quantity no prob!!
  2. & opel fruits werent called starbursts or what ever they call them!!! the wispa did make a return thou!!!!!!!!!
  3. ill agree with £150 a day for a decent worker, its not easy to find somebody you can work with, trust & still have a laugh with at the cafe or the local on a fri night, if you have a subbie, climber etc that fits all of the above then in my eyes his worth that because he will look after your reputation so long as you look after him,, apart from that if a bricklayer or chippie is payed circa £120 per day 'sth london' then a climber is cheap at £150!!
  4. lol!! i took my 051 & 076 on a job during xmas week, the climber i had in bought with him a new husky 395xp, laughed at the stihls!! through the biggest cuts, the 395 running a 30" bar couldnt keep up with the 76 on a 36" bar until i ran low on fuel!!! both running roughly about the same time- approx 2 hours i used over a gallon more than the husky!!! then the inevitable 'oldness' begun to show up!! i then carried on with the 051 against the husky, same bar length,inevitably the higher revving husky cut quicker but lost the sharpness of his chain quicker on the dead oak's!!! had a great day comparing old & new, i guess if your relying on your equipment to earn a living the old saw will not do, for the odd job, farmwork etc you cant beat those slow revving, torquey stihls, love em!!!!!!
  5. haha, i have lost a few as well!!!!!!!!! silencers are now falling to bits!!! im glad im the not only person here that likes the old stihls!!!!!!!!
  6. hi, dont know if this may help but both my 75 & 76 both suffer with idle screw moving with the vibration, ive used threadlock on both which has worked so far!!!!!! only use a 'mild' threadlock thou, some of them are designed for permanant situations!! ive just bought an alaskan to try, let us know how you get on,, cheers
  7. whilst your chatting about zf steering systems which mog & most commercials use, there is an oil filter located in the top of the resevoir, bayonet fitting, changing this regularly helps with sticking valves etc,, cheers

  9. im not familiar with the unimog set up but.... id be suprised if there wasnt a provision for adding ethonal into the air system, comma supply it but difficult to get hold of as most commercials use wabco 'air dryer' system. steven, you dont need to be paying lots for replacement valves, i can supply most valves at a fraction of the cost, ill try an get some more details together over he next few days,, cheers

  13. having eaten far far too much over the last couple of days i thought id try to make a cartoon frog...... it looks nothing like what i had planned!!!! but i kept telling myself practise makes perfect.............. apparantly!!!! im going to buy myself a smaller saw as i did this with an 18" bar!! happy new year to you all!!
  14. steve, be a bit careful here, any road will need planning, if your out the way of people who like to complain then you may get away with it, if its land you will be on for along time then try & get some big hardcore down deep before moving on to crushed stone, im unsure of your exact area but theres a skip firm south of nutley, just before maresfield bypass that should be able to supply you with some big stuff, failing that send me a mssg, i work for several skip firms a bit further up the a22, the ground is very wet too be doing any thing with at the mo but terram and small stone will work out very expensive, dont go paying much for bulky hardcore, you may be asked to cover the haulage thats all thou!! feel free to shout if you need any help, cheers

  16. ive been in the barn logging most of the day...... 1982 husky 61, had recent rebuild!! hate to say it as i prefer stihl but... it runs so well!! does any one have any idea how this saw was rated in its day?
  17. have a word with some local signwriters, try to find one that specialises in vehicles, they will have images of your vehicle and how the finished job will look, if there any good at their job they will suggest to you which colours, style etc, dont rush it as its the cheapest advertising youll ever find!! reflective lettering is a bit more expensive, but.... is very eyecatching on dark days like we have at the moment!!!!!

  21. having re-read that, the caliper pistons dont need copperslip!! just the bits around them!!!!!!!
  22. think twice about going to a main dealer mate, you will get an unneccasserily large bill, brake problem is more than likely calipers etc need cleaning up & coating with copperslip, shouldnt need calipers at that age even if high mileage, main dealers will just keep bolting on new parts, they dont seem to use emery cloth!! try to find a reputable local garage or mobile mechanic, good luck
  23. hi all, has anyone got any tips for drying out wood before/after carving to reduce splitting? ive been using some big old oak,too practise on, thats been down for about 5 years, finding that its splitting alot once left finshed, as ever, all advice is greatly appreciated, too anyone thinking of trying some carving; have a go, its great fun. be very careful of kickback zone, you only need some imagination, i cant draw anything whatsoever but the carvings are getting better. cheers all

  25. if your looking at keeping it for a while bear in mind that canter's arent very reliable once they get a few miles on them, & part prices are absurd, i have a customer who has 3 of them, i make him purchase all the parts so he cant suspect me of bumping the prices up!! cabstars are good as far as reliability goes, have you thought about other makes at all?? not much in the weight range i know, sprinters are rare but worth considering, ldv isnt a contender!! transits can be troublesome. avoid 2000-2002-gearboxes/axle problems, renault, citreon & vauxhall really are bad, fiat is no go either!! cabstar or sprinter then!! if you do lots of motorway miles then go sprinter, ideally 110-130 bhp, but they are rare, cabstar may well be your best bet, cheers
