  1. Cheers guys thats exactly what i feel like gibbon prove my self that i can do what ever is put infront of me not always a good thing i no. We did try and book traffic slot first. mistake i made was listening to client wanting it done quickly (which i never do) and guys i use one is on holiday next week the other the week After. So everything was rushed and was stubid on my part really. Thats the downfall of it if traffic were there we would have easily done it yesterday. I reackon it will be a definete laughing point in future lets hope i dnt get asked back in few years to re pollard it lol Cheers andy yer if i could do it over again i still dont think id go down the rig option i was much more comfortable with the crane on that tree my preference i just hate pops rigging them.
  2. He would rather you cut it all onto traffic and smash cars than walk on his grass though stephen
  3. I honestly didnt notice i was sticking my fingers in the cut i only noticed while editing the video i certainly cringed aswell! I get abit nervous around 20ft mark really why do i do this job is a great question lol
  4. I only made this thread because its peoples mistakes that you learn the most from i totally admit that job was a complete mess start to finish from day 1 when i looked at it but ive been in business a few years now and this is the first 1 im sure wont be the last. But ive proved to my self that if im not happy with something i wont do it no matter what the cost eg not craneing over the road which i think everyone should be like. Glad its started a few talking points
  5. Yer i was cacking my self not going to lie im scared to death of heights always have been! That was the other option rig it out but i looked at it with couple guys they both thought the same its a hard 1 to climb around also would have needed traffic guys for longer than if you used a crane so we weighed it up best crane and traffic but they werent allowed on that date so screwed that up royally
  6. probs right there, but i think if your a tree surgeon your trained and job is to do what needs doing to trees. you cant pick and choose what makes you the most money and do that all the time. im still gunna make a substantial profit on this job so why turn it down. i put the price in i think its wrong for someone to offer a service they get asked how much to do this and they dont even stick a price in.
  7. i take it the TM is traffic management well i need them because, A i dont feel comfortable working above a live road, especially on poplar and doublely because its a pollarded poplar all dead sticks snapping off as you move around it its just completely unsafe without traffic management why take the risk its not worth it. drop your hand saw hits a car, snapped branch goes through windscreens list is endless what could happen. and B crane companys wont lift above roads without traffic management anyways.
  8. because they had a tree report done on the tree and it recommended reduceing below previous points due to decay i quoted him to take the whole tree down also but he wants to keep it so that was what he wanted doing
  9. yup i had to reduce it to below the previous pollard points.
  10. under the tree was a pavement and main road to the town center on one side and the other side was inbetween the 2 driveways in both gardens over a car port and road sign the video shows what its location is like. either way we will need traffic control we wont need the crane again though just stop both lanes and crash it in the road. 11. small world kristians my best mate for years, really nice guys would do anything to help people. you have a good job with them then
  12. I didnt no u did sum work for waveney? Yer today i had the why do i do it feeling but there we are win sum you lose sum
  13. Sum it was others the location if that was in a field nothing under it you wouldnt think twice about doing it.
  14. I would totally agree i like to be very organised thats trouble you lose all control when you start dealing with big companys like highways bt electric there terrible to work with and get any sense or any help from them
  15. Yer thats the one 5 other companys have refused to quote for it. Yer traffic guys have messed us about twice now but im gunna get them to give me a date and get kristian to come do the road half with there platform.
  16. Steve firstly thanks for sponsership, they did meet me onsite the only crane that would fit was this 1 he could have put fly jib on but then lifting capacity is really small. The traffic guys werent allowed to do it because of street works people wouldnt allow that date but we had everything booked for that date and not enough time to cancel so had to make most of what we could do. I ment as in i wouldnt have dreamed that tree was anywhere near that high.
  17. HOW NOT TO USE A CRANE had this horrible job today, made impossible by the fact the traffic guys let us down so no traffic lights so gotta go back and finish the roadside eating well into my profit this poplar was bigger than i expected the crane guy had his boom fully out 28meters of it and still couldnt get the tips in the center hence the top flipping upside down he couldnt get any higher. everything was against this job happening, weather traffic guys letting us down, i was ill this morning. no one wants to do this tree, im tree surgeon number 5 im the only 1 who would take it on. had to be reduced from previous pollard points due to a tree survey saying its starting to go into decline, its a monster of a tree though massive stems i would have loved to have seen it when it hadnt ever been touched!!! video is to follow once uploaded to youtube.

  19. If only you had a job to use it on to try it out for first time man!
  20. ive had this job on the cards to do for well over a year now, ive forgotten what fungus is on it i did ask on here before and it turned out to be a heart rotter. they desided to go ahead with the pollard. im returning from a elbow injury so it was to big for me to cope with at the minute so i got ian flatters in to do the climbing so big thanks to him, i was paceing backwards and forwards wanting to get up the tree so frustrating. didnt get a after pic cause the weather was awful when we left. should stay there for a few more years.
  21. I always set it to the side so its already biteing round the stem. At college we had a spiking pole with a belay from pulley above and we got to try gaffing out in a safe way to give us convidence in the running bowline and the running bowline did its job.
  22. started off as a freelance groundie and climber when i was 16 had a little 50cc moped climbing kit and climbing saw fitted just in the footwell then i moved on to a corsa hatchback much better for my gear. then when i was 18 got a astra hatchback in the pics then when i was 19/20 bought the transit tipper, then bought a brand new vw fox for quotes, then bout a month ago i bought my first chipper a vermeer 6inch at 21 years old took that back to get my money back already after 15mins use as it was a complete pile of crap. not happy with that dealer at all. thats another story anyways. now bought a brand new timberwolf 125 that arrives may/june time then hopefully get a newer transit eventually endless replacing stuff.
  23. i had ed working for me today, turned up early all kit ready to go. got to site he worked hard gets on with what ever needs doing, very good with the customers. fully recommend him. i will be using him definetly again.
  24. i would say it looks in good nick, hard to tell if anything else is wrong with it in the stem covered up by the ivy if it was my tree id remove the ivy and give it a good reduction some of them limbs are quite tip heavy and ash likes to split out.
