  1. Same genes but with multiple amounts of chromosomes. It's not something I have a huge understanding of either.
  2. I was going to post that, but I didn't want to add to my reputation as a TV junkie It looks like it will be entertaing: nothing like a grown man having a girly tantrum and throwing his toys about
  3. No. The two resistant trees in the article have been found to be signficantly different to others elms of the same species because they have a differeing amount genes. I was wondering if that's what is making them resistant to DED, or whether they are an example of "survival of the fitest" and come from resistant parents and the amount of genes they have has nothing to do with it.
  4. I'm all for an instant ban on anyone who mentions it again!
  5. Interesting stuff. I wonder if the two triploid trees are showing resistance because they are triploid, or because they are decended from unusually resistant trees? Hmm.

    festivals!

Woohoo! So am I You have excellent taste
  7. I wasn't having a dig, honest! If anything, I was having a laugh at my own tendancies to not like riding in the cold and wet
  8. I bet your mates were incredibly envious of you I have friends and ex's who are a lot more into their bikes than me who go all misty eyed and dreamy at the mention of the RG.
  9. THAT'S why tree stock with inclusions should never be planted. Thanks for the updated pics. They show very clearly why this tree failed. How's the clearup going?
  10. Go to the little paper clip in the tool bar (attachments). Click on that to bring up a new window. Click "browse" if your pics are on your PC and not online. Go through your folders until you find the pic(s) you want and then double click. Repeat as necessary. Click "upload" and wait for the message to say they have uploaded (this may take a few moments). Add or edit your text and then preview your post. If all's ok, submit.
  11. Ya hooligan- ruining all those daytrippers' picnics by riding through them all with your big, noisy motorcycle!
  12. Excellent. I get it all to myself I'll go along with whatever accomodation you decide on, Ham. I'm not any where near as much of a fussy prima dona as I seem at times. Honest...
  13. Prunus padus, Bird cherry. Or possibly P. virginiana, it's hard to tell from the pic. Have a look at the Barcham Trees website.
  14. Aha, another very sensible, fairweather weekend hooligan I haven't done the Hastings run (or the Southend Shakedown) from the Ace for a couple of years now and I'd forgotten it was on, tbh. It's great riding there en masse with a Police escort. And the A21 near Hastings... Mmmm, lovely. Are you going to shake the mothballs out of the leathers and go on Monday? If I'm not working, I may try being social again and go as well.
  15. One of my earliest memories is of falling of my dad's little comuter and straight into a rose bush. It's set the tone of my bike riding skills ever since
  16. I'm sure he didn't mean it, Monkey. It's the green eyed monster talking, I'm sure (Bet you use yours a hellover lot more than than I do )
  17. Don't be so daft man. We know you've got the Ducati Desmosedici hidden in the garage
  18. Yet another excellent reason to stay indoors, pull the curtains and lock the doors. It's a mean and nasty world out there
  19. How are you going to deal with the concrete issue? Subby it out ?
  20. From what you have described, I would go along with the felling spec'. Yes, your clients would love to keep the tree, but in this situation it's not really feasable due to the H&S implications. Would your clients be interested in leaving it as a low monolith and leaving some of the wood on site?
  21. Mmmm, Pommie, where've you been hiding that?
  22. Sorry, D, but that don't 'alf look like the silhuette of a little old dear on her mobility scooter
  23. Thank you . It may be 4 years old now, but it still turns heads
  24. Do you have a date for you test yet? I was for a while considering downsizing to a 125 just for comuting , but I couldn't bring myself to sell the Trumph. Are you going to stick with yours for a while or upgrade when you have your licence?
  25. Other than the scuffs where I've dropped it a few times it does . It's now got T3 race bungs, Pazzo racing leavers and Dunlops, but other than that there are no other mod's and it's still one purdy bike
