  1. You'll need new warepads once you've been on Rita and 13
  2. Hi Nelly, had the same problem with a 4.2m I was using the loppers attachment and the branch got tangled and bent the lower section like it was a..........thin aluminium oval section or a plastic straw. After some consideration I calculated the section modulus and calculated the load on the section and concuded that it wasn't up to the job. I knew the Engineering Degree would come in useful. Anyway I pointed all this out and the fact that a product must be fit for function as it was described as "professional" and the supplier backed down and supplied a replacement part free of charge. In hindsight I wish I had bought a different product. PM me if you wish to know more.
  3. Cheers Hama, it'll definitely look better. I'll post some before and shots.
  4. I'm no expert but i think you need to find the perfect combination of friction line to main rope and then the length / type of hitch. The swabisch always looks like a nice knot to me. Tried a few combinations but still climb on a prussiks.
  5. I've got a sycamore to reduce which is open aspect. The customer's concern is it shading the garden and wants it to look like a lollipop. As you'd expect the lower branches have reached out miles without any growth points. It's been hacked about buy the builders as its next to a new house. My first impression is to framework it to create a nice manageable shape for future reductions. I've done it on Planes and Limes but is it ok to framework pollard a syci at this time of year?
  6. Just wanted to revisit my AW thread with regards to brambles. We've got large areas of bluebell but there's lots of brambles. Anyone know the best way to tackle these. I was going to wait for the bluebells to die back and try pulling them out (the brambles) or even use a brush cutter
  7. It's cos da council lads are fillin jerri cans for their carz
  8. Thanks guys
  9. Hi, I did a reduction on a hornbeam a couple of weeks ago and its bleeding quite a lot. Will it be ok? I did a Walnut in Jan and that leaked all over the drive!!! What reassurance can I offer the customer.
  10. Does anyone rate the new style of climbing boots? I'm talking about the Arbortec Scafell, Klima Air Zermatt, Stein Quests etc....which all look to be based around a 4 season mountain boot designed for crampons. Have they got riggid mid-soles? Are they worth the extra money or do you wish you'd stuck with your old boots?
  11. NO! Sounds extravagant and dangerous to me mate.
  12. I've got to take issue with you're picture. How can a Yorkshireman have Fred as an avatar unless I'm missing something but Fred was a Lancashire lad god rest his soul. I'm sure you have a good reason.
  13. Looks fantastic now how do I register! Can't find a register thingy anywhere.
  14. I'm now the proud owner of a copy of Managing Native Broadleaved Woodland for the FC.....I also have about 5 days itchy growth on my chin with no plan to remove until the weather breaks. Unable to locate my favourite pair of JC sandles...interigated wife regarding charity shop donations but she's pleading the 5th. Heavy stuff but its all in a good cause.
  15. We have a couple of large Elms and a group of smaller ones. Any suggestions why they seem not to have ded.
  16. Thanks Austin I really appreciate your advice and its opened up my eyes on a couple of things. We have a SSSI and a pond located close to the woods. It sounds like your saying don't try to rush things and observe whats present in and around the woods.
  17. I'm starting to feel the same, I'm off to the video shop to rent a copy of Tower Heist. At 46 she must make a cracking MILF.
  18. There are two very good pieces of advice passed onto me by two quite successfull people. 1) Don't be affraid to invest in yourself, your the only one in control of your business. I did this when I moved into this career and its working so far. 2) Turnover is vanity - profit is sanity. Many people get caught up in the romance of how many thousands they turnover. I keep my overheads as low as possible and only invest if I know what the return will be. Keep control of your costs. Good luck and don't put all your eggs in one basket or try to run before you can walk.
  19. Absolutely and I think many people feel the same way when they're in the woods. Its all about balance really, we can't keep everyone out because there's public foot paths, but we can neglect some of the mubby access, that usually slow's them down
  20. In the past I've used 1.6m for my strop and 1.8m for my mainline prussik, try a sliding prussik to stop it coming off you mainline krab. Had a few hairy moments when i've clipped on and noticed the prussik missing.....yeeehaaaaa
  21. So as an interim summary, reducing the sycamore population would be a good thing for the long term. I especially think this ia key as there are lots of saplings and young tree's in variuos areas. I will look deeper into what effect they are having. Also the holly has to be reduced because it's taken over large area's and again I will look into what effect its having on the grown. Would it be acceptable to chip and spray the holly?
  22. Yes, its chapter and verse with this fella, thanks by the way. I would have thought holly is important cover for small birds. Have seen the odd Sparrow Hawk in there but there seems to be too much of it. I'm getting the impression that its ok to manage an ancient woodland rather than just leave it. Its classified as ancient but there's lots of birch and syc doing their best to dominate or maybe thats as result of earlier work. I'm definately going to speak to some of the older locals to see what they know.
  23. Wow, I could spray them all over the place. We have an old chestnut with a oyster mushrooms growing in a huge trunk cavity, quite scary and smelly when its in bloom.

  25. Can a management plan be done in the winter? What about all the flowers that come out in spring and summer, what happens if we kill something sprecial!!! Can we assess the canopy cover in winter or do we need to wait till summer? There's lots of fungus around but what creatures rely on it? We're thinking of clearing out some of the holy, would this be bad for biodiversity? I don't think the birds would like it too much.
