  2. Which is the odd one out. No prizes!
  3. Here's some shot to be going on with.
  4. I knew there was one I'd forgot.
  5. Diameter.....maybe 70 years old could be more.
  6. Been getting into my wild flowers this year. Found the following species in our ancient woodland. Stitchwort Lesser Cellendine Lords and Lady's Duke of Normandy Pink Campions Woodland sorrel Blue bells Now, I know stitchwort is an indicator species but what is its significance. Are there any other flowers I should look out for what are important?

    M&M

Saw some really distinctive fungi on some rotting birch. Little orange balls just like M&M's I'd love to know more?
  8. The bizzar thing is they're quite happy for a large hawthorne to be felled....urrr!
  9. TPO and can't really be seen from anywhere else.
  10. You need to show knowledge of how to attached a warm saw to the rope. Marlin Spike! There's nothing worse than a saw on a figure of 8. Climb on what ever system your used to and feel most comfortable with, its not the time to be practicing with fancy hitch stuff.....it'll cost £110 + vat
  11. My heart goes out to the families of all involved. Spare a thought for the poor design engineers who signed off the calcs. We all do difficult jobs and much of the brainwork in modern engineering is done by computer modelling. Thats why these machines are so financially viable. They've stripped out as much metal as possible, just like a plane. I don't like mewps and never will. My harness was designed in Germany....enough said.
  12. Been to look at a Lime tree about 5m from a kitchen window in the back garden. The LPA say they'll accept a 10% reduction. In my experience 10% aint much and for a tree so close the the house 30% (which is what I suggested) seemed conservative, I was thinking more like pollard it! The houses are new build so the tree was there first. The LPA have also said I can specify the reduction in meters. Would it be acceptable to reduce by 3m (radius) at the base and 2m from the top to achieve a tree that fits the space. The tree's girth is around 300mm - 400mm

    Bee's

Been to look at a twin stem Birch with a bee's nest in a bird box 10ft up. Seems sensible to wait till winter, but what other options are there. A bloke got attacked by a swarm just up the road....they air lifted him to hospital but he died unfortunately. I got stung by a wasp last year and my whole leg swelled up. I always carry anti-histemines now because I'm sensitized after being stung when I was younger. Often overlooked on a risk assessment too. What do people think?
  17. Each log weighs a ton! I lifted one yesterday and it nearly gave me a hernia.......
  18. Thanks Tom Any idea when we'll have mid summer this year.
  19. Hi All, been to look at a couple of jobs and was wondering about best time of year to prune them. 1) Magnolia - I've always been lead to believe mid summer is best. 2) Walnut - not sure 3) Hornbeam - not sure Appreciate your experience. Thanks.
  20. I keep looking at these fancy new jackets, then I put on my 20 year old tripple layer Berghaus and think, they don't make them like this anymore. It's like wearing a coat of nylon armour. It's been to hell and back and there's not a rip in it. It's one of the old mountain goretex, same as the army surplus stuff I think. Bullet proof. Still fancy a Stein though.
  21. Don't loose any sleep about it mate, they're probably shitting you about the other quote. I don't take a tree down for less that £180 because you need two climbers. I always make a point about PL insurance, responsible disposal of arrisings, kit costs etc. You can't do anything more than that and hope people look at things pragmatically and have a conscience. I found a conifer hedge in a ditch the other day roots and all, I quoted £80 for the job!!!!.
  22. Its looks like a chainsaw grave yard.......must be a fortune in scrap value though especially the guide bars, ss prices are well high I cashed in a load from a fab job we did and it was well worth it.
  23. Lovely stuff, but I can help smelling the same bullshit he smelt with rock climbers! He'll be running a "free climbing school" pretty soon just watch. Balls like space hoppers though. Like the bit at the end where he falls, is there a part II?
  24. Mi fave is my old 038AV she pulls like an old horse and always starts after a kick.
  25. Looks good, but its days look numbered.
