  1. I've got a honey locus in my garden, hope the spikes don't get that big
  2. Its a no brainer....T540xp all day for my money. If you spend £500 of your own hard earned money you're more inclined to treat it with respect. I've had mine a year now and its well looked after. Yes it gets dragged around the tree on my harness and its still mint. But the power and balance is far better than a 200t. The only negative I can find is that it goes cold quick and needs choking.
  3. Considering the size of the tree I'm concerned about heave resulting from its removal. The law suit is based on subsidence so would I have any liability for future damage if it occurs? Has anyone got any direct experience of this? The owner of the tree has been sued by the neighbours insurance company, why by the looks of things have a very good barrister.

    Smokers.

Here's my rules on giving up (it took me about 10 years) 1) Fag's don't give you anything they just rob you of your money and kill you off. 2) The longer you leave it the harder it gets 3) £9-20 for 20 Embo's is complete madness 4) They make you stink like a dustbin 5) Its all in your mind 6) Never give up on a Monday 7) Don't be that lonely fool outside the hospital on a drip with a fag having your Kemo 8) At best you will end up with COPD at about 55 years old 9) Chill out and have a Red Bush tea 10) Never give up trying to give up Good luck people you know its the right thing to do.

Didn't they say the same about cigarettes back in the 60's before everyone started dropping dead? There's nothing worse than an ex-smoker
  6. Snot Elpin Gonna have to phone Jones tomora and see if they'll release one without me having to drive a thousand miles to collect it.....
  7. Don't think I'd have the strength to start an 880 I've got massive logs to ring up and seem to be getting more big treework so its becoming a struggle with the old 044.

    Smokers.

Seen loads of people with those vaperisor things these days. They look like a baby sucking on a dummy.
  9. Anyone selling a Stihl MS660 in very good condition. I'd buy a new one but its going to collect dust isn't it:001_smile:

    Smokers.

Took me years to stop after loads of trying. Just went cold turkey in the end. Get through the first two weeks, warn the family it will be hell or go on holiday somewhere remote. You can do it...its easy after a few days and you feel super human. Don't stop drinking it will make you miserable I can knock work out like a lad half my age and I've got manflue lol
  11. I've been asked to take down a tree which is the subject of a dispute. There appears to have been a legal case between the neighbours and the tree owner has agreed to take the tree down. My concern is that I need to work from the neighbours property to take down the tree and they are okay about this. A large building company delivered some materials to my house and asked me to sign a waiver before they would bring their truck up my drive. I'm assuming they get litigation cases where people want £50k for damaging the drain etc...... Should I ask them to sign a damage waiver before commencing work? I have £5m PL insurance but I'm just worried they might sew my ass if I even disscolour they're driveway. I don't want to go into details about whats happened only to say the own of the tree is facing a huge legal bill. I just wondered if anyone has been in the same situation.
  12. I've been using 10mm Sirius at about 700mm on 13mm Yale XTC. I'd given up on the HC decided to give it another go. Sitius works extremely well on Yale both as a Prussic and Distel. It didn't take long to get 100% trust in the knot. I tided it short to reduce sitback but found it needs a little more length do maybe 80 or 85 cm would be better. I'm testing OP 10mm at 90cm tomor. Previously used as a VT but didn't like it one bit. Hoping it doesn't freeze lol
  13. Seem fairly steady at present which is nice as we've moved to a new yard and have much to sort out. Earlier on this year probably from July it was mental with people stocking up with load after load. Weather wise I think at some point the gulf stream will drop again like in the summer and every bugger will start freezing......including me
  14. I took what I thought was a big risk last year as I was running low on HW and all I could find was SW. I had absolutely no idea what the customers were going to say when I told them I only had mixed loads for the rest of the season. If you cast your mind back last years weather was extremely mild and wet. Fortunately out of at least 100 customers only 2 turned their nose up and said "my log burner only burns hardwood". But ultimately SW is more sustainable and burns perfectly well, so too does willow. My favorite is Larch, absolutely love the stuff.
  15. I find sirius works quite well as a prussik once the ropes a bit dirty.
  16. What a fantastic picture of the lonely climber. I'd have that framed its got tons of atmosphere, good perspective too.
  17. The Metro silencer was fine until the Kholer engine blew up!!! Happened for the best as it forced me to fit a new Honda.
  18. What a thread, pmsl. Ive never seen anything like in my life. I love the way you've gone back to what you know best, which is not a bad thing. I've had 2 pairs of Haix Trekker and found they slip off your heal a little, otherwise they're not bad ground boots but a bit heavy and chunky for climbing. Can't fault my AirStream other than essentially they're a walking boot with chainsaw protection. In my opinion they're perfect for climbing but I don't think they're tough enough for ground work. I'm puzzle as to why no one suggested PFanner boots, they look rock solid a bit like my Asolo powermatics!
  19. Just wondered how you guys are getting on with your A11v I've ended up following the Riko path after much research. Hopefully be taking delivery this week. The main thing for us is splitting speed which from top to bottom should be around 5 sec according to Riko which affects the through-put enormously. We split over 200 cubic meters a year so we don't have time to wait for the ramp the catch up. We've been using a Alko LHS600 for the last 4 years and its never let us down, I just wished they made a 12t petrol version.
  20. You'll never be too young to begin something so fulfilling Went you're looking up at the bows, you'll dread that climb But when you reach the top and find your anchor its comforting Drop down on your hitch and fire up your saw For now my boy you are a tree climber, let the limbs fall
  21. Hi Mark, how are you finding the new splitter. I'm also looking for a new vertical machine and I'm split (excuse the pun) between a lawnflite 10 to and a Reko 11 tone at nearly 3 times the price but I'm thinking long term. We have an Alko LHS600 which has been faultless but its electric and we need a petrol engine now. Just wondered what your thoughts were.
  22. I'll book the MEWP then!
  23. Mine went kaput so I bought one off eBay and then it sounded just like a Metro!!!!!
  24. Is it right to suggest the tree is adding strength by bulking up the buttresses each side of where the cavity was.
  25. I discovered this on a customers tree about 2-1/2 years ago. Been back there today and its still there. The tree is sounding very hollow so I'm not expecting there to be much heartwood left. It looks like Ganoderma applanatum to me but looking through the directory I can't see any references to Lime tree's though. Just wondering if its saprophytic or parasitic? Think the trees are about 120yrs old and pollarded. Should I take it down?
