  1. I use at Stihl Smart Holder which seems to work quite well. It'll hold anything I can lift! Cutting with a ms260 so can't comment on anything cheap but I would expect you could pick up a good one second hand for £300 notes.
  2. Camp site! Pink tents only of course!!!!!
  3. She's a good old stick, but I've got to be honest she's been known to nip over to the shop to buy the odd bag of kindling.....whats that all about. I tell her just knock one of those pallets down!!!!
  4. Just wondered how other firewood suppliers were finding this year. It's started with a bang for me compared with last year, but I'm only small scale compared with others. I've had an influx of log orders over the last 3 weeks and yet on Sunday I thought I was going to pass out on account of it being 27 degrees C / 40ft up a tree ringing wet with sweat.....nothing new there though. Still not got a processor yet but the wife splits 4 loads a day which is easily enough and it keeps her in shape instead of shelling out on stupid gym fees.
  5. Hi All, I'm currently working on a project and part of it includes removing a large section of poplars. I need help and advice about the best way to tackle their removal and what to do with the timber. The access should be ok but there's no turning so its back in drive out. The tree a quite mature and should be good for woodchip fuel. The problem I'm having is finding someone who will come and do the job for free. Or is there funding available to get the work done. We could take them down ourselves but whats the value going to be. We have around 150 tree of about 24"-35" DBH which could be clear felled...however there's a sewer main running straight down the site. Anyone got any experience in this area. I also think they form part of a SSSI which we have HLS funding. Thanks
  6. Poor old tree, what the hell was wrong with it?
  7. Or just tightly toned cheeks:001_tt2:
  8. I've finally realised today why some tree surgeons walk with strange swagger, a bit like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. I always assumed it was because they suffered from severe backpain, had ill fitting pants a little like those one which hang around the arse of young people these day's or just because we work so god damn hard. Today it was noted by a collegue (on site) I had aquired such a swagger. On exiting the shower this evening I finally realised what causes this phenomenon.......chafing! I'm not sure if the cure is bed rest, aftersun, nikwax, saddlesoap, saddlin or ..... Discuss:confused1:
  9. Oh yes! Would I need any special PPE
  10. What about a farm jack. Just watched some muppet on youtube lifting a stump out. Didn't show you the pain on his face though.
  11. Hi Mark, I've not cut them yet so I can leave them as high as needed. Thanks
  12. Not used one but have seen a 6" disc with a chainsaw chain wrapped round it....looks nasty. Might try and find one for my 9" cutter he he he!
  13. Willow should be pretty easy. The worst grinding job I've done was a 6' Elm. Took me all day with a blunt old vermeer I think...... Dead cherry is a swine too.
  14. Quite like the idea of setting fire to the blighters
  15. Just was wondered what extraordinary ways people have of removing stumps. I've got to get 4 small coni stumps out and they're on a walled bed which has shrubs and the customer doesn't want a grinder in there. Ye I can dig them out but what about using a farm jack or 4x4 to pull them out or a winch?
  16. Well someone must be dead chuffed with it, but to be honest the output looks pretty low so it looks like the hydraulics need specing up a bit. Didn't see a log deck so can't coment on loading. Still think me and the missis could split and stack quicker.
  17. Want a good starter forestry tractor. It needs to be low cost and multi-purpose. Here's my wish list - Bucket to do pathways and move agregate 3rd services for log splitter pto for wintching mower attachment snow plough Is there one vehicle that can do all this. How many of these can I do with a Bobcat Skidsteer? Our woods are fairly flat but muddy in places.
  18. I could pull this in on my way to Woolacombe.... The girls were hoping to go pony trekking but this is more up my street.
  19. Cheers Tony I'll note that one down. I've been using a Reader's Digest Complete Spotters Guide. I have no idea where it came from, its an 1" thick and is actually not too bad.
  20. Quite similar to having a German woman with her hold on you! Firm, tight and no chance of escape
  21. Not so sure about the carabiners from Wales Not really they've kept me alive for the last 25 years..
  22. Backpain

    M&M

Ye I think that looks like it. There was only one or two little balls though. I'll look tomorrow and take some pics. Cheers Fellas
  23. Absolutely spellbinding to watch, it was like being up there but without the **** running down my pants. The missis has been on about having a tulip tree in the garden! Here watch this luv. You gonna prune it?
