  1. A lot people don't like the driving position, but find it fine. I drive from lillihammer to the south of France in a td5 with only a break for ferry and fuel. I was knackered but comfortable. Mine was in for a new clutch😎 so I borrowed a mates transit and it hurt my knees! I just wish the radio in the land rover worked...
  2. I've used the trailer a bit now, moving chip and logs as a tipper and moving 3m lengths of timber as a log trailer. My initial thoughts are: Basically for the money it's a good buy. The galvanising isn't quite as good as I'd like and i broke the winch while lifting a large log (about 500kg so over twice its swl) but it's an easy fix. As a tipper it does exactly what it says on the tin. Went along nicely behind the quad, I think you get just over 1m3 as standard, may be more. I'd put greedy boards on if I was chipping into it and it tips well using the crane. I was really impressed using it to forward logs, the crane surprised me as to how useful it was. The only thing I'd say is I was moving a mixture of 3m lengths softwood and random lengths of firewood. It would have been handy to have a third bolster on the axle dolly to prevent timber from rubbing on the wheels. But as the head board, bolsters and axle are all moveable, its not the end of the world. I normally tow it behind a Yamaha Grizzly 450 and found I lost traction in the wet being the biggest problem, I'm sure it'll be great in the dry! All in all. Think it is good value for money. Cheers Mark
  3. I have mixed feelings. I love my 300tdi tipper. I can't see a jap truck touching it apart from long motorway trips, which I don't do often. I can't help thinking that they are over priced though. I also think that when they starting having too many creature comforts the resulting price increase was too great and the Defender changed from a utility truck to a bit of a fashion statement. Shame because I don't think they're great as a 'car' but excellent as a work horse! I'm looking for another to join my fleet!
  4. Thanks Bob, I'll get the lot done. The truck is a good 'un so with investing in. The thing is Mick whatever you run in this kind of with will get a hard life and need bits replacing... But you hear dramas about all these vehicles, especially the newer ones!
  5. Hi Jon, I'm keeping my 300tdi is got a new chassis and in really good nick assist from the clutch! It will need a new engine in 20k or so. So the new truck is an addition to the fleet for me😁😁.
  6. I think when it is apart I'll get the whole lot done. New HD clutch probably the hiding as well.
  7. The time has come when I need another truck. Not sure at the moment if I need a 110 or 130 double cab. What's people experience with the td5 vs the tdci? My gut feeling is go for the td5 but can't say why, it will be used for towing the chipper/ tipping trailer quotes etc. (My chip truck is a 300tdi I'd like to keep the fleet land rovers). Cheers Mark
  8. I don't know how many miles that clutch had done. It's the selector fork that'd gone. Not sure what make the replacement will be, what's good?
  9. Land rover clutch today. Obviously in the middle of nowhere.
  10. I'll call today cheers Mark
  11. Hi Gardiners, We're working in fiddlers green, I have a load of chip and some logs to get rid of. Cheers Mark
  12. Just not of GCHQ, of that helps! Cheers Mark
  13. Hi, Does anyone know of a tip site on the west side of Cheltenham? Chip and logs to go. Cheers
  14. Thanks.
  15. I was quoted £72 for a 6.5m length of the bottom plank, intersection and the top plank were £60 for a 6.5m length (all 200mm deep). Sounds pretty similar stump squatters price (without doing any maths)
  16. I'll try them. The current sides are made of fibreglass coated plywood. So far I reckon ali planking will be about half the price of coated! Anyway I've budge the side back together, hopefully with a bit of fine tuning you wont be and to see the break. I'll retrieve the whole box in the summer.
  17. Time to replace the sides and roof on my chip box (someone hit it with a JCB). Does anyone know where I can get ali planking from (apart from from Aalco).? Cheers Mark
  18. Thanks, that's great for being on with, I'll check the link and timberbear, I'll pm you with my email address. Cheers
  19. Hi, I'm trying to find a book or guides covering paddock/grassland management and maintenance. I've had a good look on the internet and apart from one book for about £680 on Amazon can't find anything. Any suggestions? Thanks
  20. Conifer a day 2 men, ash 1\2 day plus grinding. Rates are not important as it sorry of depend on where you are, your set up etc. I'd start at about £550 a day and vary as required.
  21. Padman, I don't respond to this type of thread but... To me it looks like you price top dollar (or more) for a service without a rescue climber, so what other h&s corners are being cut? If I was you go cheap you aren't competing with companies that do comply with h&s regs etc, who have over heads that you don't. I suspect that a labour won't be on much a day, therefore your taking a big wedge out of this job. The ash, by the way 1/2day 2 men, lorry with crane, grinding extra.
  22. Try Lydney Park Estate Sawmill on 01594 845373. They had a load last time I was in and pretty close to you.
  23. Will do.
  24. My trailer arrived today. Looks quite sturdy and we'll made. I'll see how it gets on when I get to work with it.
  25. Amazing how fire proof those council notices are! The rest of the quad burnt to nothing even the engine😏
