  1. tried the mill today, very very pleased with my purchase and with the end products! Cut lots of 1" thick by 12" wide and 6ft long cyprus boards, was great fun, very satasfying seeing the end product, will post some pics laters
  2. another one used in our yard, fordson major with hiab and sprial (screw) log splitter mounted on the side, driven off the pully. david brown and forwarder haha i could post pics of our tractors all day
  3. our most used tractor is a fordson major, with cooks 1 speed winch and a loader (not a very good pic) this is used a lot in our yard, its an austin, it will lift a fair amount, and will winch untill it breaks the cable
  4. fordson major all the way
  5. yeah same i wanna see some pics and price idea would be nice
  6. yeah im gunna use a ladder, got the idea from the guy who runs this - http://www.alaskanmill.co.uk/ drilled some holes in a 12ft lader yesturday so i can screw it onto the logs to start with im gunna be using a 25" bar, mainly so i dont have to get a new bar yet and the timber that i have got lined up isnt very big.
  7. hahaha most probably
  8. yeah its been really warm these past couple of days! depends what the owner wants to do, probably end up buying the firewood off him, i think hes keeping the timber for his own use though.
  9. We have been felling these the past couple of days. 10 trees in total, needed to be felled due to the fact a few of them were leaning over the road and they were all reducing the amount of light getting to the woods planted either side of thed drive, the trees were going to be felled before the woods were planted but that didnt happen so it made work harder for us.# This first picture actually looks like we have been doing tree surgon stuff climbing and what not, nah we used a mates 90ft volvo truck mounted platform, i was at college and didnt actually see this, would have been cool. Most of them were pulled over by the fordsons winch. Its so much easier using the forwarder to build a fire and burn the brash, saves pushing it up with a loader and getting all the mud in the fire Thanks for looking.
  10. ha thats a very good idea, in that big oak tree with the video of our 090 splitting it down, theres some wire or a nail in that.
  11. Hello everyone, me and a mate form college are going to start doing some milling, we have the timber (suppiled by my grandad ) and i have just ordered the mill and a ripping chain. I got my hands on an old dolmar, which runs and cuts like a beast (100cc) but in the future i might get a ripping chain for the 090. I would just like to know some tips people have about milling, you know things you have found out through expirence. Thanks a lot!
  12. o ta for that great find! ha now i know what this one looks like new gave it a good run in today, cuts like a beast! Putting a 36" bar on it next week Going to start doing some milling with it soon, should be good!
  13. meh i've got a pair at the moment, they are comfy, plently of movement in the fingers, hands seem to get very hot in the summer lol and they arent built to last
  14. yeah thats very true, good job we have boxes of bits that im sure will fit ha btw just noticed i spelt dolmar wrong
  15. Just got hold of a Sachs Dolamar 153. I like dolmar saws, just wondering what other people think of them? We have one of the first dolmars to come into the country, still runs fine
  16. ha cheers, it does the job
  17. niceeeeeee i'll stick to old saw benchs
  18. our winch not our tractor my second cousins (well hes some relation lol)
  19. Heres a few pics of our fransgard winch that we were using today. Pulling some ash, cherry and oak over in a wood that were leaning over a lane.
  20. haha saw that in the forestry journel
  21. yeah i wouldnt mind knowing a bit more to, i know that we were hauling bulker trailers of cider apples to bulmers last yeah, thats a lot of apples haha this topic has really got me wanting to bolt some bits on to one of our splitters
  22. all the wood that we have fell this winter, it not covered at the moment, we will leave it drying without cover, untill the end of summer when it will all be tarped over so the worst of the rain stays off and it continues to dry, thats how we have always done it, works really well.
  23. we have been using old tarp for years, its been able to dry and breathe well. We get it off farmers that have been covering silage, so its old n torn it keeps the worst of it off, but still alowing the wood to breathe
  24. after reading this i went and looked at our log splitter, it wouldnt be that hard to do at all just bolt some sides along where the ram runs, take off the splitter (comes off anyway) and just use a flat steel plate, use some guttering underneath the deck for the cider to run through. Dont really see that there would be a large gain from this, but would be somthing fun to try ha.
  25. yeah i no what you mean, but to be honest that tractor wouldnt travel far anyway, so we just use it in the yard
