Depends what sort of climbing you're doing.. Done a few dismantles and a bit of cutting clearance along embankments. Deffinatley get yourself a good head torch... if you're working with flood lights it takes a while gettng used to one side of the tree being dark and one light but it's generally quite enjoyable IMO.

Had considered it...but it's a nice shiny 09 plate truck... dont want to ruin the look of her. Cheers Matt. Managed to track down the main UK importers thisafternoon. Nearly £300 for a new bit of glass.... wowsers they're expensive.. Note to self, do not reverse into trees.

Not sure about structural integrity of fire damaged trees, but all I do know is that if you are cutting trees which have been reasonably recently scorched or partially burnt, they blunt your chain very quickly! Not sure why or how, might possibly be to do with the carbon from charcoal type deposits caused by fire??? They don't look too bad, but deffinatley would fell rather than climb unless absolutley necessary. I'd think a big hinge is in order and a good winch

They are a motley crew ey?? Right to left.... yep first up is my younger brother.. the boots actually come from YOUR brother stevie!! hehe Next is one of the newer additions to the crew, good worker, good craic, in jeans as we were getting ready to leave site and he had got changed. Next up is another new addition to the force, very hard working, wondering why the hell I wanted a lunge shot.. Next up is my contracts manager... and yes, I think he is trying to tell me something. No climbing on this job, just pure vegetation clearance.

Starting to get a bit scared to be honest... if it's a 120k machine, what on earth are they going to charge me for daily hire!! Ahh i know the LA is not an endless pot of money, but I have to say the LA tree teams seem to have all the kit they need (and quite rightly so) ! I look at this game, sorry, industry, as a big ladder, and all the companies on it, be they one man band's, larger companies and even bigger companies have to work thier way up the ladder step by step.. That's how I've got to where we are now, taking small steps, mostly with kit etc and taking on extra clients. My last step was to purchase a chipper, the next one is the valmet and botex.... a few steps up and I may have a Teupen on the list

Ohh don't I know it.... we've hammered a fair few of them! lol But it is true, they need maintenance, and it's the greasing and daily maintenance that keep em going strong..

Would it not have been easier to deck the tree, carry on dismantling and just replace the sheets, tell the customer you will replace them with corrugated steel sheets?? We've been on jobs before where there has been rotten fences and trellis fencing underneath and it was far cheaper just to drop stuff on the fence and replace it afterwards than try to work around it.. as long as the customer knows what's going on before you start then there's no problem. Another example is an oak tree next to a main road we are taking down in a couple of months time, it has a brand new fence on the other side of it but rather than us messing about dismantling and rigging under traffic management, i'm just going to winch it over the fence, clear up and replace the fence afterwards.

That's the reason I bought it.... more for clearance and production jobs than anything else. She's heading out for a month on a cut and chip contract tomorrow morning.. should be an awesome machine on birch scrub!!

Well we had her out this week on a small job - very very impressed. Even chips gnarly Scots Pine with relative ease, just drags the whole lot straight in.
