  1. Nice work. Long reach trimmers would have made it easier though!
  2. It was taken with a olympus 850SW, a tough compact which has been dropped out of trees, kicked around and generally abused for the past two years The full res pic is even better.
  3. I can't remember if I have already posted this one or not.
  4. I'm sure no matter which one we get it will pay for itself in no time. Looking forward to getting a new toy, but not looking forward to buying new locks and chains to stop the gits stealing it.
  5. Yer they looked like a decent setup, but I get the feeling somone made them a better offer on the truck after we had left a deposit. It was a real pain because our old truck had died.
  6. I'd say start him on a low wage and sit down with him and plan out pay rises with targets or even just a bonus if the weeks work gets done on time/early. Getting him to feel like he's responsisble for the job making money and not just an employee is important. Pay doesn't motivate, but not being paid enough demotivates!
  7. Well the title says exercise for arb work not just climbing I'll go with Deadlifting, best allrounder IMO. I don't do much climbing, but do a lot of dragging and lifting, so my weights 3x a week really help. Its a bit tuff in the summer though, normally give up for the busiest 2 months of the year.
  8. I couldn't disagree more. We put down a deposit on a cabstar tipper, waited a week for it to be 'prepared' then when I called they told me it had developed a fault and had to go back to nissan Then tried to sell me another one I ended up buying one from economy commercials, I couldn't have asked for a better service and ended up with a newer, lower mileage tipper for the same money.
  9. Thanks for the advice My local dealer is getting me a few prices on new ones. I did see the Rayco on here for sale, but I'm a little worried about the clutches from what I have read. My budget is about £3.5k, but thats pushing it at the mo!
  10. What small grinders do you guys use? We're looking to buy our first grinder and I'm not sure what to go for, we have lost a couple of jobs because we couldn't remove the stumps ourselves and hiring one meant our price wasn't competitive We generally do the smaller side of tree work, so small to medium trees, hedge removal etc. I was looking at the Husky SG13 Stump Grinder, has anyone had any experience with them? I'd love the RAYCO RG25HD orange plant have, but we our pushing our budget at £3500
  11. I was just talking to my brother about this yesterday. I've got a 56 Ranger and it would be much more useful if it tipped, but its my daily driver as well as a work vehicle. I think the Ranger tippers can only carry 750kgs, so if the conversion was only 120kgs then you'd be able to carry more than the ready made tippers and have a much better looking truck My only worries would be how it looked if you raised the butt, even a small amount and where the filler would go.
  12. I found these two in my folks garden, right next to a little poplar
  13. A little off topic, but if you are putting together a home gym get a concept 2 rower. I managed to get a reconditioned unit, any other rowers don't come close IMO.
  14. In my opinion it all depends on what they have you doing. If you are there to learn and they are taking time to teach you, then fair enough. Its costing them time and money, but if they have you dragging brush all day then its a bit unfair!
  15. I find a few things help. Routine, get to bed at a good time every night and aim for a solid 8 hours. Wear yourself out, but a good two hours before you go to bed, a 20min jog, a bit of weight training etc Calm yourself before going to bed, reading is great. Don't watch anything too exciting on TV I learnt the last one from a hypnotist. Count to ten VERY slowly, with every count take a deep breath (as deep as you can). I sleep like a log now.
  16. I live on a fairly steep hill and you wouldn't believe the people that don't slow down even when its covered with a sheet of ice We saw a couple of accidents before the council closed the road. I towed a couple of women back up the hill with my Ranger after they got half way down and realised they couldn't stop and turned into the curb I wouldn't dream of charging anyone as it was just a bit of fun. If someone called me up at 5am I think I'd want more than £20 though!
  17. One of the properties we look after round the corner from sandbanks had a protected pine drilled and poisoned, to rub salt into the wound they had to pay to have the dead tree removed and replaced! It was obviously one of the property owners a row back who was losing their view of the harbour.
  18. Thats what we bought about 6 months ago. Its perfect for us, a small two man team and has been 100% reliable. We were lucky to pick up a decent one S/H fairly locally, but came very close to buying one from Orange plant (very helpful guys ).
  19. Now the council will be wondering why the kids are bothering people on street corners. Looks like a fun job though
