When I mentioned it to one of my colleagues, what I had seen he said that he's noticed more snail round this year, but when I showed him the picture his response was, "Oh..... not that many"

Great saw Reg! it's a monster now! By the way, is the saw still on the same chain type? or is it now on semi-skip/full skip chain?

    Snails???

Afternoon all, I was wondering if anyone had ever seen anything like this before, an ash tree covered in snails? We were moving machinery from one part of the woods to another, I had been dropped off to collect the van and had walked the last section back alongside a little shelter belt woodland when I noticed said tree. Most of the shells were empty but a few still had something in. It was the only tree i notice in the belt with any snails on too. Any ideas? sorry for the low quality pictures, I only had my phone on me at the time. James
  5. I would go for a mix of around 75% coppice 25% pollard, all the species you mention will respond well to coppicing and pollarding. Anything with a nice single stem which isn’t leaning over the water I would consider pollarding. They will create some great habitat :thumbup1: How long is the top of the dam?
  6. Rob are willing to take another order, even though I've missed the deadline?
  7. I have seen something similar used in Germany and other parts of Europe, which like to operate tree length harvesting. They use there nice skidders or hydrotongs to pull them through. Here is a video of one in operation. 8. I've just done the same! Looks like it going to be great for mending cracks in chainsaw covers.
  9. Look at these hairy little fellas... birds will nest in some of the oddest places, I've never seen a swallow make it's nest on top of a 5'6" post before. Plus, its right beside the shed door, they don't seem to mind use going in and out now and again.
  10. I have only ever seen them used once in this country, it was with an old chap in the boarders, he used old fishing buoys cut in half with the winch cable attached to the original anchor point and a choker attached inside.
  11. Found this young fella, he's sticking his baler twine tongue out... How rude!
  12. A friend of mine bought all the posts and uprights from his Ifor dealer and then fabricated the mesh panels himself, he sprayed the mesh sides silver and they looked good. I know they weren't galvanised but they still looked the part and cost half as much as the real ones.
  13. Those deer are great. I really like his website Woodworking for engineers, his homemade wooden bandsaw is amazing. I recommend his youtube channel to Matthiaswandel - YouTube
  14. Hi Guys, I've got a quick question for you, I am in need of a new Vertex Digital Hypsometer but can't justify buying a new one as they retail at around £1000!!! So I was wondering if anyone know whether or not you can lease these bits of kit? Or if someone on here could rent me one for a couple of weeks? Or knew of any second hand units I could buy? James

PM me if your interested. James

  17. I think I'm going to have try it now, just to see for myself
  18. Now then, my MS361 is need of a new bar and chain, I'm currently running a 16" 3/8 bar, but one of the men I work with is trying to convince me to run it on a .235 chain with a 9 tooth sprockets, I was just wondering if anyone else runs their 361 on .325?
  19. I’ve just heard the horrible news that Pc Bill Barker body has been found. Our hearts go out to the family who has lost their father.
  20. I've been planting for the last month or so, 7000 down only another 6000 to go, half Douglas straight planted and the other Oak all tubed up. Done all the beat up already, it can be a killer in some of the woods if they aint been weeded! Sound like you’ve got yourself a good steady job there.
  21. These are some Great images; I did wonder whose skyline it was when i pass the other day. A few years ago was a large part of the moss cleared by a mulcher? And a harvester and forwarder combination? The moss also used to have large problem with rhododendron, is that still true or has it been sorted? I think I might have some photos of the site when they removed most of the forest tracks and blocked the drains, ill see if I can find them.

Yer it is Shrove Tuesday, well I was thinking something along the lines of bacon and cheese to start, then the classic sugar and lemons to follow.
