  1. Has anyone done their bit today? Got a few laughs from the office people we were working near and my daughter & her friend (both 9 year olds) raised £75 selling cakes they had made.
  2. Hi Dan you did a Very nice job on the Beech trees for Roseyweb:thumbup1:
  3. I got my last one from Clark Forest (Advert on right side of screen). Comes in a flat bag so its easy to bungee down to something like or shuv behind your seat in the van. About £30 for the small one.
  4. Had a weaver for years and felt quite happy with it. It is being scrapped (due to LOLER and age only) and will replaced with a Treemotion.
  5. Flowerpot bonsai dismantle by MEWP (not photographed)
  6. The stump grinder ain't mine, its hired!
  7. 40+ foot drop into the beautiful deer park below. Why spoil the view with these bloody things!!!!!
  8. Over the top machinery for small jobs! Show your pictures of jobs using equipment that is just way too big. This afternoon (on the way back from finishing a proper job) we chipped a few twigs and ground three stumps (less than 8 inch diameter). It took longer to unload/reload the kit than to do the small domestic job!!
  9. Will have a look and let you know what I find....!
  10. Took the tracks off and all the rollers and both idlers seem fine. Tiny bit off play in one idler but nothing worth changing imo. Will have to flow/pressure test the system whilst my local hydraulic people find out if I can get the Italian drive motors instead of TW orignals. Any idea what flow and pressure I should be getting from the main pump?
  11. Not a clue what the are on about:001_tt2: Also I got feed up with losing wedges in canals and resevoirs or just dropping them out of trees when chogging big lumps off. So I drilled a hole through the side of a wedge, put a bit of starter cord on it, clip it on my harness!! Simples:thumbup:
  12. We were called out to a worksite (away from home for a few days:001_smile:) but the foreman had forgot to mention about the small amount of fencing that needed finishing off !! Miles away from the yard on Sunday needing to strain barb wire what do you do except improvise:thumbup1: What have you done?
  13. I will send sub-contractors back home on day one if they have no ticket. I also know people with tickets that have such bad habits I will not use them no matter how deperate. Joe public has asked for qualifications in the past occasionally but they could be fobbed off with any computer made stuff unfortunately. If you use un-qualified people you deserve to be dragged thro the mill and righty so in so many ways.
  14. I worked for a chap involved with rough grass cutting of canal towpaths during the growing season and hedge cutting in the winter for quite a few years with a bit of chainsawing or boating here and there. I was the foreman, over a few other guys, so I put in the extra effort often with very little reward. The chap was very smart and gave me a few shares in the company, instead of a decent payrise, saying "one day my son this will be yours". Being naive I thought he would eventually give it to me as he had no children of his own but this was not so. He got fed up with the increasing paperwork/risk assesments/etc and had his fingers in other pies so he said to me one day " I'm going to close the business down or sell it, you have first choice". Well if he shuts it down I'm out of a job, if he sells it the new people usually get rid of the foreman and I'm out of a job. I knew the job inside and out my wife was in agreement that we should try and raise the cash. Easier said than done but we did it with no help or handouts and worked our nuts off to get it from there to here. Hard long days/nights, stress, arguments, no money, no holidays, etc. We now have a company that is well known, respected and busy.
  15. Cheers robbo and twisted. Will check the bearings when I jet wash all the crud off tomorrow and try and find a make on the motors and ring round some hydro people locally.
  16. One of the tracks on my Timberwolf (VTR150) is going slower than the other if that is possible:laugh1: It has had a complete hydro oil change, and the reduction hubs have had fresh gear oil, the stuff that came out was jet black with some shiny bits of metal in it! So I think that new motors might be on my shopping list. Has anyone done this or is it trade in time?
  17. Burnt out an 9000lb electric winch pulling trees out of other trees, water etc. Still using 12000lb electric winches ( Britpart and Goodwinch TDS) on my Defenders. What badge you have on your winch is up to you and your wallet.
  18. Can't fault the Ranger for private and work use. I wouldn't have another Land Rover Puma unless it was free!!
  19. Abolish those members of public that tell you that the 25% reduction is wrong and that "I want 50% blah blah,I know what I want and actually I am an armchair Arborist and now that you have packed up "could you just" or "that looks c**p!". Sambucus nigra or anything related to Poplars should be moved to a planet that the above live on.!! Soap box rant over. I'm calm now.
  20. 1600kg hand winch is all you need for that stick. Rig it up up and sever the trunk with a diagonal 'step cut' or similar depending on tension/compression so that the bit in the water slides over the butt without digging in the ground and you will be home before they can say "could you just". Simples
  21. I have used Yaletrac 1600kgs winches for years on remote callout work and they have never let me down except the odd shear pin which are kept in the handle. 3200kg winches are to big and heavy IMO just use a snatch block.
  22. Tirfor winches are very good at what they do, easy to use, reliable and simple to maintain. You can get many different makes now that use the same principle of two jaws gripping a wire rope at much lower prices than the Tirfor however spares, service,LOLER etc may be an issue with some internet versions. Pulling/lifting can be any distance you want as the cable can be made to lenght (standard is about 25m) If you only need a short pulling distance a LUG-ALL type might be an option. These winches store the wire on a drum inside the winch itself so its all contained and no need to store the wire or thread it when you need to use it. These have a pulley block fitted on the wire so a double capacity pull/lift can be achieved.
  23. I've got a 150VTR which does a good job but it is very slow to track to site and has rubbish ground clearance. Had a demo of a Greenmech Quad track and was very impressed. Hopefully trying a small Jensen this week.
  24. Single cab Puma has NO leg room for either driver or passenger, and a good TD5 Defender is a load better IMO I've had both and prefer the TD5.
  25. Newbury job is removal of low overhanging branches/scrub and a few Willows to remove alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal.
