  1. nice oak monkey d will look great when its done is the trees crown been worked on mainly to prevent it from falling or limbs that could shed in a public area, and to balance the crown back to the new crown that has formed ,maybe regrowth from other limbs that have shed in the past to make it more pleasing to the eye.if left alone would the limbs that you are bringing back die of or shed anyway in time, iam interested in having a selected few veterans worked on here in the future so always interested in the resons the work been done:001_smile:

  5. thats good david:thumbup1: i find it best to pollard sallows as they surpress the other trees in a young wood,
  6. you will have to take a look when you next down if thats the like the fungi on the sycamore you looked at last year they both appear to be putting on a flush of fresh fruiting at the moment
  7. cheers mate it was high up the first ash, in a area of chestnut coppice.
  8. a few pics in my lunch break on sat with out any fungi to id and what i have learnt from monkey d and hama would say it is hispidus causing the hollowing on the 2 ash and the swelling at the base of the second ash is from a buttrotting fungi or is this a sign of hispidus? the white beams top came out a few years ago and now covered with fruiting tripe fungus, the small pollard is the sort of thing i do when thinning a area to give second storey of growth and give some character:001_smile:

  16. it showed signs of the hispidus up in the top part of the stem but didnt see any brackets will have a good look when rakeing up as see them a lot up here on the ash in some of the woods
  17. net working now so can reply was a great day working with phil and richard c ,its a shame the ash had to come down would of made a good pollard but over the winds in feb the crack had appeared to of got bigger gryfollia and dryads saddle had been at play the good news is a young ash growing next to it has chance to fill its boots and take over and stump and some of the hollow trunk will be left for habbitat

  19. well hooked on ax men cantwait i know a lot of it acted out but wel good to see how it done over there
  20. our woods are managed for conservation timber alongside shooting the keepers are keen to have the woods thinned so they get good ground cover from the regrowth in the understory or inrichment planting of native shrubs without shoots a lot of small woods would never get worked in
  21. we have a big lime we were recomended to give dead wood and to thin the clumps as not to shock the tree removing it all the work was done was done 5 years ago, the clumps have grown back well but the tree has a lot of dead in crown again ,the tree is due to be done again this next winter along with a crown reduction will be done in winter so can sell the mysletoe
