  1. sure is, dont know the exact science but you dont want a big lung fool. i met an old boy years ago on holiday, when he retired he bought an electric planer, went up his loft and got stuck into a piece of yew, straight to hospital, he walked with sticks and could hardky talk for lack of breath. i read it was in the resin. alkaloid taxil comes to mind, but i am rubbish with latin stuff. when i cut it with the saw i always wear a mask. i was told thats why they used to plant it around cemeterys. not to ward off demons but to keep out livestock. the seeds in the beries are poisenous i think but not the fruit. this is just what i have picked up over the years. maybe not 100% right but i dont think its too far off.
  2. if you mean jade, i wouldnt bother:thumbdown:
  3. nice one steves industries, when the pound was strong you could of bought that for about 20k. i think it would be awesome for town work. i bet it likes the juice though. well kitted out aswell, and i bet it could tow a monster chipper. could do with edds input, he is bound to know all about them:001_smile:
  4. i bet i could, my tool box has 2 hammers in it. a big one and a huge one:001_tongue:
  5. i knew this thread would lure you in dave lol.i meant to put a picture up.one of these:001_smile:
  6. cheers pete, they look good, prussiks can be a pain when on really small stuff, the knot can get caught on small forks or loosen when rubbing on the stem. i relise now why you guys know so much about rope thickness. :001_smile:to fit in all these gadgets. thanks
  7. prehistoric climber here pete, whats a cinch and art positioner? i can slacken my rope grab one handed ok, its a thumb and pinky manouvere. but i am keen to find out about new gadgets:001_smile:
  8. do you guys know of any companies that work with bucket trucks in the uk, i watched one work in nz, it was an awesome piece of kit. i have trawled through companies web sites but never seen any.
  9. i would like to cater for all customers. the big dumpy bags are good value for money but some folk dont want them, or dont want the hassle of shifting the logs after. the small bags are really light and more lady friendly i think(not being sexist)
  10. what about your other customers?how much do they buy them from you for, does it conflict with the petrol station prices?
  11. i was going to sell them for 2.50. 2 for a fiver. keep it a nice easy number me thinks.
  12. in my experience in making high sides with checker plate or galvy steel. you would need to buy 2 8x4 sheets, and there was always a couple of small thin bits left over, depending on how high you made them. and they would use these bits for the skip. put the skip on with r pins so they can be taken off if you are taking the sides down or using the van for other things mate
  13. long wheel or short wheel base. either way it will be pretty narrow. only ever had them for transit/iveco tipper:001_smile:
  14. 'slanting cut' why have i never thought of that, doh. my chipper will take anything you give it but sometimes it will thump big bits straight up off the inside of the hopper getting a grip of the butt. you wouldnt want your hand in there when it doeasnt. top tip steve.
  15. from what i have seen of regs work it is probably about 30ton:scared1:
  16. i am still getting shudders thinking about tommers finger.ouch:sad:
  17. is it new or second hand mate, my tp has a belt that drives the pump that runs off the main drive, if it gets loose it will squeal a bit, it usually just needs a tightening. maybe yours is similar, but the service guys should have checked that. are the rollers stopping/slowing down/or spinning without gripping?
  18. i only bought another one because i kept leaving my original in the mog, it is as good as new, just the cuffs are a bit worn, but the new jacket has rectified that wee problem by making them out of neoprene
  19. i hate manky building sites, at least you got a shot of the big forklift. trouble is the guys driving them are usually labourers with a ticket. i did a big yew over in helensburg behind portakabins, surrounded with portabogs and jennys. the driver of the 18tonner was excellent he took off the bucket, i popped a short chain on it, one cut, he lifted it in a oner and took it to the other end of the site.saying that it got mulched by a big fenn. chipping is so old school lol
  20. i only use one on a 3m steel core strop, i find them too clumbersome on small trees, and doesnt tuck away as neatly on my harness. but no complaints on my one
  21. i think the mrs will be buying the full scuba kit today, hopefully we will have some pics of the wee man in the full rig out later. fingers crossed mate:001_smile:
  22. i totally get it now, i didnt understand how it could lift stuff. looking goog mate
