  1. Kiln Dried Firewood Logs | Real Firewood Company Not too where you are getting the 2.2 M3 from. They say themselves its a 2m3 crate and that it equates to '4 bulk bags' The crate measurements will be external.
  2. Very valid post. Delivery to customer is alone a major cost, especially if you have a dedicated delivery vehicle. Depreciation, servicing, repair, tyres, testing, tax, insurance all add up, never mind fuel.
  3. Apologies, but you havent been very clear so far! I still cant see why you dont put the vented bag on skidsteer forks and process straight into it, either from processor or log splitter.
  4. A buliders bag can be anything from .5 to .75 M3. It may take 2 of them to make 1m3. This makes a big difference to what you charge.
  5. Exactly what I was thinking.
  6. You might be better off sticking your pto one on ebay, they seem to make close to new price s/h!
  7. What do you intend filling the hopper with?
  8. There might well be a market, but I've decided to keep my £3k in my pocket and leave the forest have the branches! I might be wrong, but I see easier money in buying kindling wholesale and adding a few quid on to each bag without any work. I think people will only buy the tr 70 product if its substantially cheaper than logs.
  9. A guy not too far from bought one, he said it was working well. I did think about getting one for making use of the branches of our ash thinnings, but I cant see a big enough market for the end product tbh. Its not kindling or its not logs, but maybe I am missing something.
  10. Dont know how accurate this guide is, but it does put Douglas fir above the likes of spruce.. Which Firewood Give the Most Heat Firewood Guide BTU Rating Chart
  11. Very true, and Spruce is the most available firewood in my area. Does anyone know how would Alder (apparently a poor hardwood firewood) compare to Spruce?
  12. Yes it does. Volume for volume you will burn more softwood than hardwood per day to get the same heat output. Nothing wrong with that though because softwood is more available, cheaper per ton and can be sold to the customer cheaper.
  13. I agree with you re hardwood getting too dear/scarce, and people will have to start burning softwood, but as Jon says, you do need to burn a lot more of it. Burning it slowly by closing down the vents etc will reduce the stove's capacity to heat the room, radiators etc.
  14. Firewood logs for sale | Kiln Dried Hardwood | Logs Direct These guys are confusing the public even more by calling a 1m3 bag a 'dumpy' bag. They are also suggesting that a 2m3 stacked crate = 3.5 m3 bags.
  15. I'll be very interested in seeing the results. I agree totally about the bag sizes. Rather than trying to convince them that a M3 bag is much bigger (sometimes twice the capacity) than a 'builders bag', just give them a builders bag! Seems to me, the smaller the bag the more profit anyway.
  16. I'm not saying that. Jayvee reckoned they would increase by 1.63 times. Judging by the other link I think it would be closer to 1.3 times.
  17. Looking at that link again, it would tally more with Alycidon's theory. (I could be all wrong here!) Loose M3 has 45% timber, stacked M3 has 75% timber, so there is 30% more timber in the stacked M3. Therefore, a stacked 2m3 crate will give approx 2.6 m3 of 'thrown' wood.
  18. You could well be right, I am new to all this, and as I say, I have never tested it out. Yet! Surely weight is irrevalant though.?
  19. Scroll down to the bottom page here... http://www.seai.ie/Renewables/Bioenergy/Wood_Energy/Coford_wood_energy_information_notes/Firewood.pdf 'For example, in Figure 4 the pieces of wood are placed loosely in the box, so the box contains only 45% wood and the rest is air. If the wood was stacked neatly in rows, the pile would contain between 75 and 80% wood, as shown in Figure 5.'
  20. I was going by the reply Jayvee gave here, but have yet to try it out.. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/393890-post5.html
  21. I would have thought 2 stacked m3 would give you over 3 'loose' m3?
  22. What size log nets are people using and how many can you fill from a loose m3 etc? TIA.
  23. Going by the measurments, these appear to be .25 M3. NEW JUST IN - 500mm x 500mm x 1000mm Barrow Bags | eBay UK
