  1. Ive got an old 200T which doesnt run. I bought it 2nd hand and it ran OK for a while but then overheated big time (the bottom casing melted!). Since then I've put it in with 2 different sthil dealers for repair and although they've replaced the exhuast, casings and countless other parts it still doesnt run. I've probably spent the best part of £300 on it so I'm not spending any more, question is, should I sell it (being completely honest on condition!) or keep it for spares?
  2. Fair point
  3. Mmmm..not sure that that stem will decay...will prob sprout into a very high pollard!
  4. Keep moving, working if you can. I had a discectomy in 2005 on my L3/L2 discs, didnt start tree work until 2006 and can work fine. It goes once or so a year, in fact I have just had the MRI results from the last episode and they have confirmed that I still have a slightly prolapsed disc. The last time it went it was pure agony and I thought I'd done some serious damage again, but after some painkillers and a day on the sofa I was back climbing 2 days later, just small stuff, nothing to strenuous. Sitting around is def the worst thing you could possibly do.
  5. Personally I'll stick with my 201T but a quick search on ebay and you could use this as a cheap saw. Not convinced on the build quality at that price tho... PETROL CHAINSAW NEW 12 MTH WARRANTY TOP HANDLED CHAINSAW | eBay
  6. Hi All Anyone know a LOLER inspector in the Nottingham area? Cheers
  7. Thumbs up from me. Never been without one since the first time I used one. The cutting through straps is an issue though, at one point I went through about 3 in as many months. At least once you cut through 2 you can make a 3rd for no extra cost!
  8. 3m of 11mm with a Ropeman Mk1. Nice and simple
  9. I'm based in Nottingham, have pm'd you. Cheers Simon
  10. I have a Ford Ranger 53 plate 2x4 extra super cab thats about to go on ebay if you are interested? It also has a metal cage on the back so you can get a bit more in... PM me if you want any more info. Selling as I bought a landy!!
  11. A fair point Kev, but if you work out the total hours worth of use I got from it it didn't add up to much more than a week! Most of the time it was hanging from my harness or in my bag. Its useful but I'm tempted just to find an old ariel and bend the end!
  12. I got a mini reach no more than about 6 months ago. Used it often, prob once a week, sometimes more. I was a bit taken aback by the price but it turned out to be one of the most uselful bits of kit in my bag, worth every penny. BUT, it has now broken. Like others have said, this tool needs to be more robust. I certainly didnt abuse it, any knocks it took were whilst it was in my kit bag, maybe at £12.50 it should come with a case!
  13. Ive got the entec version of the TW18, its prob 11 years+ old and it does OK. Its my first chipper and it does get the job done. Struggles with some types of brash - anything with twisted angles, wide unions etc... also not great on anything too small, hedge trimmings and the like, it jams up with stuff that is too small to chip. I've managed with it for a couple of years but am now thinking I ,need to upgrade to something with feed rollers as the work has picked up. As WoodyPaul has said, the right kind of brash and it will whip through it!
  14. Cheers for the replies all, def food for thought!
  15. Hi All I'm looking to upgrade my van and was considering an Iveco. Anyone use one? Just wondering how they fair against the other tippers out there? Cheers PS - before someone says it, I can't afford a mog!
  16. Hi All I'm trying to ID these 2 trees/shrubs. The first one has very glossy leaves, bit like a Holly but smooth. The second has leaves very similar to a Rowan but it is growing as a very dense low shrub rather than a tree, like a rowan that had been coppiced. Any help appreciated.
  17. I'm confused! I've been using the Mk1 with some 11mm rope as my positional strop for over a year with no problems, I've not noticed any wear on the rope. (Mind you I get through a lot of 11mm rope due to silky nicks) So is the Mk2 better or worse for the rope?
  18. cheers for the feedback, me thinks i'll be staying with the stretchairs!
  19. I've only been in the tree business for a couple of years and am still on my first pair of trousers (stretchair, type C). The time has come for a new pair and although I can't fault the Stretchairs I am wondering if they are worth £226! I've heard good things about the SIP type C. Can anyone recomend a worthy rival to the Stretchairs or are they actually worth the extra dosh?
  20. I'm trying to ID this tree, closest I can find is a Grey or maybe Goat Willow, or I might be way off, can anyone help? Thanks
  21. thanks to all who've replied. cheers
  22. I was pretty sure its an ash, a lot of the leaves have fallen off the sample I have photo'd. There is a huge ash at the end of the garden, I figure this has self seeded. I'll have a double check to be sure. As to the original problem, would an aphid attack cause the tree to lose its healthy leaves? Ash, or any other species? Cheers
  23. Thanks for the replies. What about the large amount of healthy looking leaves that the tree is losing? Would that be caused by the aphids/leaf roller? Cheers
  24. Hi All I'm hoping someone might be able to help me ID a problem with an Ash. Its only a small tree, self seeded in a friends garden, probably no more than 5 or 10 years old. Some of the leaves have developed signs of some kind of disease I think, a purple discolouration, with a white fluff within them, and the affected leaves are curling up. There aren't many leaves showing these signs, but the tree is shedding a lot of healthy looking leaves. Enough to warrant raking up every couple of days. They have done some landscaping around the tree recently but nothing that would have caused any root damage. Pictures of the leaves attached. Thanks Simon
