  1. Not a lot of help, but the Stihl dealer in France binned the saw. I'm sure the problem was caused by dodgy mix. I am totally anal about my mix, and all my saws have given me years of abuse, sorry, service.
  2. Like those Maples you did this week? Fatty.
  3. Thanks Butch, but I don't think I'm ready for Ronnies routine just yet! I do look a bit like him when I'm tanned, though.
  4. I've worked for a lot less! I'm old, mind. To get this thread back on track, 'cos me and Lorry have swerved it a bit, I think nearly any modern rope would be better in every way than the hairy old things we used to use! 19mm double esterlon is probably a bit OTT for most work that 90% of the lads on here take on. That definately includes me!
  5. Nothing ticks all the boxes, I think your ideal truck is totally dependent on the ideal type of work you want to pursue. That said, mine would be a 4x4 Transit, at a realistic price, which weighed less than 500kg including tools, groundie and dogs. Oh, it would average 60mpg. Sod it, it would have to give blow jobs as well......
  6. This is where it p's me off when people think it's a good idea to employ clueless lads on £50 a day. There's a lot of skill in running rigging well on the ground. If I'm honest, it's probably my favourite part of the job! Mind you, that may be because I'm better at it than climbing these days!
  7. I'll get my coat...... Awesome.
  8. Damn! I've just wasted a load of dosh on a lowering bollard. If only I'd known. What time do you have to have him back by?
  9. I get through it by never lowering bits bigger than my truck! Shock loading is the killer. I like a nice high lowering point. Which is where the tree gets thinner. So it's weaker. So the lowering point snaps out.... AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH! I've gone and confused myself now!
  10. I hear what you're saying Nod. The one thing that can never be accurately quantified is the strength of the tree itself. All of my rigging failures have been anchor points snapping out! I like to think that my rigging kit is now well over-spec for the kind of jobs I tackle. I shudder to think of the size of some of the lumps I have rigged down in the past using a carabiner instead of a pulley. Back when I thought 'Bend Radius' was an Erasure album. Good thread.
  11. St. Tropez, you heathen. Fake tan was leaving stains on my 26" waist Speedos.
  12. Pure creatine monohydrate at the mo. Hell of a lot cheaper than Cyclone, and it doesn't give me massive wind!
  13. Squatting body weight and a half would be good enough for me Dave, you'll end up with legs like Tom Platz! Forgotten how good dips are! I'm having that 100kg for reps for Chrismas!
  14. Big lump = Big rope That's it, really.
  15. Great input. Mixed things up last night (mate whose garage we have our gym in is on holiday). High rep press-ups and dips. Sore today. But it was a sweet pain........!
  16. I find Jeremys honesty very refreshing! It sounds like an earner for someone.
  17. I'll 3rd that opinion then! I have an MS210 (discontinued) which I use for this type of stuff, which I swapped for my old 260 because it was so awful! Good little saw, but don't expect it to last because you can see where the pro saw money stops! MS170 for £150, almost as a throwaway saw? Like the 210, but cheaper. Nice and nippy with a 12", bar and chain interchangeable with the MS200T, which helps sometimes
  18. I couldn't mate. I've only got ten fingers!
  19. Give everyone else a chance to guess first, Stevie!
