  2. Is it time for the cod liver oil?
  3. Im with combined insurance and they are good, been with them for about 12 years now, they cover me for work and rugby, had 2 claims and they have been prompt with the payouts.
  4. we were reducing a hedge in loughbrough once and came across a wasps nest, there was myself (a rugby playing, climber) Boz (a marine who had just come back from serving Afgan) and Neil (a door man, and genral nutcase) All pegging it down the road bricking it and being chased and stung, we looked back and the little old lady who we were working for was looking out her window in stitches, she said it was the funniest thing she had ever seen!!
  5. keeping a sharp saw and sharp blades on the chipper helps reduce dust!
  6. Now that is a bummer I tore some ligaments in my ankle playing rugby and could not work for 5 weeks, but did manage to get good at halo3 in the mean time. Was it the 3 red lights of doom? if so microsoft will repair it free of charge.
  7. tut tut, arbtalk will be shut down for glamorizing knife culture! I have been lucky enough to have a good selection of leatherman's over the years due to my father-in-law working at airport security, so the next time a guy tells you you cant take your leatherman on the plane, it will probally end up in my toolbox.
  8. I think it was an oscar wilde quote, not too sure though
  9. lucky man, nothing a sledgehammer couldnt fix! oh the joys of landys. Glad you are ok.
  10. I was lucky enough to get a job straight out of college, spent most of the first few months dragging brash, but when given the opportunity to climb it was grabbed with both hands, then got given the crappy stuff to climb, after a year I was running a crew and spent the next 4 years as a foreman. I have just moved south and onto the freelance ladder, and its a whole new ball game. I guess what I am trying to say is watch and learn and grasp any chance to climb you can get, talk to other climbers, learn new methods, and dont be afraid to express your way of doing things! yes you will probally get the rubbish stuff like conifer removals, but it is all experience.
  11. I hate bloody chainsaw gloves, too chunky and next to no grip on them, sometimes I think they are more dangerous than none at all!
  12. Cheers mate..... I would of gone with rugby player physique personally!
  13. or vanessa feltz's silver suit on that crappy game show!
  14. Ive been wearing hi-flex for the last 2 years and dont have a problem with them as a product, the only thing I will say is that the bottoms get trashed due to me having short legs and the trousers 'bagging' at the bottom. I had to get the xl ones as im a 34w/30L but couldnt get the smaller sizes over my thighs! Do anyone do a shorter leg version?
  15. sorry, whats cc?
  16. would an old type cap not fit? Normally find that if you insert it and turn it anti-clockwise as far as poss first, it usually works.
  17. If your wood yard is surrounded by a private woodland, you could always arrange a 'night shoot' the poor guys trespassing to steal logs would just be in the way!!!
  18. I had been climbing for a company for 4 years, and am now just starting out into the world of freelance climbing (registered as self-employed today, whoop whoop) If you work for a company to begin with it is regular pay, and you will soon learn of the standard of other work going on in the area, and possibily who to work or not work for in the future. Best of luck
  19. what a effin sausage, well at least you know where to dump that next load of crappy timber!!!!!
  20. try one of these!!!!
  21. Top: the top fell out of a big chestnut, was in 3 gardens, it was a few hours before we could get a half decent photo. mid&Bottom: It was a while ago, but I think it was a grey pop, totaly ruined the tennis cort. customer kept all logs, and burnt all brash.
  22. just a few randoms
  23. learn as many different techniques with reguards to climbing, cuts, rigging etc. and try to master them all. And also, never stop listening and learning!
  24. After a long climb up an ivy clad stem, being pelted by hail, soaked to the skin, freezing cold, crappy tree to remove with hardly any drop zone, my 020 wouldnt start, I had a right go at the ground staff (who were standing in the conservatry entrance drinking a nice warm coffee at this point) for not warming my saw up, and not putting fuel in. Sent it down quite rapidly, followed by a barrage of abuse, they still couldnt get it started. 'It was F*c£ing working yesterday' came the reply as I was zipping down to sort the mess out, only to get to the bottom and remember that I had removed the spark plug to check another saw earlier in the morning and forgot to put it back in, oops! It was a long, cold, wet thrust back to the top, and a very quiet crew leader fo the rest of the day!
