  1. Yes it is, and a suspicious congrats on the cultivar too lol
  2. In reference to the original post, as scary and dangerous as that looks, it's still pretty impressive lol.
  3. Woo I got it right without having to scroll down. If noobs, like me, don't wanna see the answers, just don't read the other posts until you've answered. Here's one to keep us going until John gets back, nice easy one if you know it:
  4. Wow, if that's a branch ... what does a tree look like to them?!
  5. I assume your boots are velcro too
  6. I sure hope not, just forked out enough money for my CS certs, maybe they'll be transferable.
  7. Does that mean that user input would be limited/non-existent or would there just be set guide lines that so long as they're followed any user can include their own knots?
  8. As a noob, I would highly appreciate a page dedicated to knots.
  9. That just seems to be peoples reaction to religion now-a-days. I'm a Christian but luckily no-one bothers me about it apart from the odd person who seems to think it's their civil duty to convert me to atheism and actually become angry by it. I'm happy believing in unicorns and fairies thank you . Nice video though, I cannot listen to Pachobel without thinking of this [ame= ] [/ame]
  10. Me and patience simply do not go I'm afraid . The climbing kit is mostly if not completely for pure practice, a lot of the guys from my course go climbing during the week so it would be cool to join them. There's also quite a few tree's around mine that I've already planned my route up so any jobs I can do with it are purely a bonus and maybe will pay for some of the less essential bits of gear. I have actually been looking at first aid kits but was a bit reluctant to get one as most do not say what's inside and I could most likely make one up from everything at home. I guess it may make a decent topic to ask what everyone has in their first aid kits, see who's in the duct tape can fix everything camp .
  11. No experience of this but my girlfriends parents just got someone in to do the windows for them. They had a cheaper quote but because the guy didn't provide a business card or even a flyer they were a bit wary. So I guess the moral is, make yourself as professional as possible and a good portfolio of work to show clients and business cards could go a long way. Oh ... and chicks do seem to dig the braces.
  12. I have used the sequoia before and liked it, reminded me of my old rock climbing harness, just gotta double check with one of the lads on my course what size I need. Gonna try his on. Thanks very much everyone for the replies:marchmellow:. I know Honey Bros does a quote service if you're ordering quite a lot, and to me this seems like quite a lot. Just needed some sort of reassurance that I'm not doing anything crazy buying this lot. Guess I just gotta take the plunge and get out climbing.
  13. Cheers for the responses guys. I do have CS38 and chose all the kit myself and mostly by experience of having used it at college, just wanted to see if anyone could spot any obvious flaws that I may have missed in my naivety. As Phenom said, I could just do with the practice and needed a good excuse to get the kit so thought I'd take on the job and use that as the push I needed. It's not a serious job in the slightest, more just a give it a go cause they want it coming down anyway. Money isn't too much of a problem, I'm pretty good when it comes to saving and management, just don't wanna buy something that a cheaper version I may have overlooked could do better. How come you wanted to know if they'd advised me what to get dougie?
  14. I had the razr 2 for a while. Pretty decent photo quality but not very well built and crap battery, also probably pretty ancient compared to most people but that's as modern as I get. Bring back the 3210. Not the worst.
  15. Hi guys, I was hoping you could give me some advice for my first climbing kit. I have nothing to start with so am buying the whole lot in one big bulk. I'm currently studying at Myerscough but got a couple of small jobs lined up for friend of friends so decided I might as well take the plunge and get everything I need. This is the list that I've come up with from Honey Brothers: Petzl Vertex Vent c/w Husq Attch Petzl SEQUOIA Harness Yale XTC-FIRE Rope 35m 3 x Edelrid HMS Triple Lock Karabiner Adjustable Lanyard 3m (with the crab, pulley, cord, etc) Marlow Boa 9mm Friction Cord 4m Throw Bag with Throwline Silky Zubat 300 Saw & Sheath Webbed Cambium/Friction Saver Length: 1.3 Metre Total inc VAT £524.57 Was hoping if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations on what to take away/swap or if what I've picked is likely to fall apart from experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys. Edit - Forgot to mention, if anyone from Honey Brothers is on here, student discount? Don't ask, don't get
  16. The screaming banshee of the forest ... the aspen.
  17. Fantastic:001_tongue:
  18. Good on him for trying and getting stuck in. I'm not expert on technique but if he gives it another go he may find it easier keeping his legs higher up the trunk. Feel his pain of heights though, I'm with Nick, just on the verge of getting over mine.
  19. Fantastic, good find!
  20. I think I've lived a very risk free life thus far, that or I'm just lucky. Had a few near misses driving, but then so has every one and most of the time it knocks some sense into us without paying a heavy price. I guess the only time I remember that may apply to the pain for pleasure category was when I was 7 and fell down the stairs only to run up and try again because it was good fun. I'm sure I'll have much more to talk about soon in this line of work though.
  21. Ah ... I finally find the redsquirrel stopping me from having a more simple user name. On topic though, before being reminded about the lieing and then all his other faults I was not looking forward to my first day at work if mistakes (though this is a potentially serious if not stupid one) are punished so harshly. I gotta say I fully agree after reading through your posts. I've worked (not in the tree world) with people who think they know it all, lie about blatant mistakes, and are just irritating to be around. As you've also said the atmosphere has improved since his departure which is always a good sign and should improve not just moral but potentially work flow.
  22. Good luck mate, I got mine in a couple of weeks and feeling about the same as you. Just make sure you get on the NPTC website and read through the schedule till you hate the thing and you'll have no problems.
  23. Package arrived today containing my fantastic new timberwolf knife and a cool new hat n t-shirt so thank you very much, can't wait for the next comp. Really enjoyed this one. I shall be off carving whistles n all sorts now .
  24. I'm still a newbie myself but it is a great feeling, especially once you get out on a nice long limb and dropping down forks. Keep it up and get some pics . Also, I had to read that twice and no it doesn't sound right .
  25. Been watching this thread for a while and thought I might as well add my two pence. Personally (though I'm sure kipperfeet would disagree as I'm on one of his courses) I think I'm not the worst climber in the world. My problem is getting to the top and trusting my changeovers, but once I reach my final anchor point it makes no difference how high I am and what I'm doing. Obviously I realise this is useless in a work environment as no-one is gonna want to wait around while I get to the top but my confidence or more realistically, blocking out the voice telling me to stop, will come with time. Getting back on topic. Now after reading that first paragraph who on here would give me the time I need to get that confidence?! I know I wouldn't, time is money after all. I'm still entering for my climbing cert and hopefully I'll get it as despite being slow, I am safe. This would then class me as a "qualified ... rubbish climber". I'm not about the sell myself as the best climber you've ever seen and realistically I am not expecting to even be a climber (not straight away anyway), I'll take the best groundy job I can and start from there. As for 50 quid a day? Not the best wage ever but to be in a job you love it's a small price to pay. Plus I volunteer at a country park so any pay would be nice for me . Not the most useful post but at least I can be classed under the topic title and provide my POV.
