  1. Great vid, dunno if I could crawl along those lines though.
  2. I'm thinking of getting some slings, deffo would come in handy for false footholds. Can anyone advice on amount and length? I'm thinking 3 of various lengths but not sure what.
  3. I was just looking at random stores and come across this american site that sells these: 3.5" long. Link: New Tribe store Has anyone ever used one, maybe not this one specifically but a grappling hook non-the-less. Seems like quite a novel idea that could help out sometimes. Obviously there's ways round nearly all problems that a flick of the rope could solve but the batman inside makes me want one.
  4. Great find, would love to spend a day in their shoes ... and only a day.
  5. Went off pendulum when they went mainstream and changed their style (yes I'm in the mainstream = sellouts camp) but still gotta give them credit, they are fantastic live. Festivals ain't my bag anymore, went to leeds a few times years back but now I'd rather have a relaxing camping holiday. I'm far too old for my age . Have a good one mate.
  6. Nice job, good before and after pics but you could try smiling for the camera a bit more .
  7. Haha fantastic, you know you're getting quality with that team. Though I really think a proper cup of tea on a saucer would set the picture more, maybe you should reconsider.
  8. Phew, thought you meant £25 was standard minimum price. Cheers for the response, I'll be sure to grab me some next time I'm out.
  9. Know the schedule!!! My mate did an ace climb and then failed for not being able to answer the questions. Also relax and have fun.
  10. You've just made me wanna go and double check mine now. I'm after putting a second bridge onto them anyway so what grade loctite would anyone recommend, also where do I get it from? Never really heard of the stuff unless mentioned with sequoia harnesses.
  11. Sorry to drag this thread up but just incase no-one has seen it: Richard Preston on the giant trees | Video on TED.com Ted is an awesome website, been watching videos on there for a couple of years now and still find that things I thought I'd have no interest in are actually fascinating.
  12. Always fancied a go but I'm not just gymnastic enough to pull any sort of tricks. Figure just walking back and forth could get tedious without anything inbetween. That video was intense though, I'll take a pass. As for solo climbing ... there's no bad solo climbers is there?!
  13. I'm not liking where this thread is going Though I wouldn't say no to some gourmet squirrel
  14. Seems like all the students are coming home and after some work so I might as well add my name to the list. Just about the finish my first year of an FdSc in Arboriculture and would greatly appreciate any experience, whether that be the odd day here and there or a full-time/part-time position over the summer. I hold CS30 and CS38 and am fully trained for CS31 (hopefully my test should be in 2 weeks). I have also been volunteering for 2 days a week since Sept at Haigh Country Park doing general warden tasks so hard work and early mornings are not a problem. I have my own PPE, climbing equipment, and transport. If anyone can offer me a chance or just point me in the right direction then feel free to PM me. Cheers guys.
  15. I think I get, whilst one is cutting the other is setting up the rigging then visa versa but personally I think the risks out way the time saved ... too many cooks spoil the broth.
  16. Petzl Am'D for me but I don't have much experience with krabs, to me if it closes it's good. Though I have heard these ones are good with the hitchclimber because they're asymmetrical. http://www.honeybros.com/gbu0-prodshow/HB16G.html
  17. HAHA, I thought he meant the green wheelie bin.
  18. All looks good bald monkey, mine was just blood sweat and tears:sad:. The job is in the Wigan area, Standish to be exact. Unfortunately I have never used a chainsaw in a tree (hence using the silky) and so am pretty clueless as to how to finish, or at least the technicalities. Will try and have a word with the woman who's tree it is and see if she'd be interested in getting it properly finished, I'd love to shadow someone whilst they do it. Will pass on details if she decides to to anyone who may be interested though, would be a shame to just leave it but will have to see what she wants.
  19. Thanks for all the comments guys, really encouraging, I thought I was gonna get ripped to pieces lol. I hate my chinstrap, and whole helmet really when I'm on the ground but when I'm in the tree I simply don't notice either. As for the crane, I think that's well above and beyond me, not sure what she wants doing with the remainder, probs leave it till I get my CS39 then go back and finish the job lol. As for the price, I was happy but I don't think anyone else would've been lol. But I was just happy for the experience, speaking of which, I'm gonna be putting a proper post in the employment section soon anyway but if anyone ever needs a hand in a few weeks time just draggin brash or groundie work I'd be more than happy for a few quid. I'm after an astravan so gonna need all the pennies I can scrape together .
  20. Love my sequoia, light and comfortable, but your best seeing what's best for you. Check out the sequoia thread to see everyones opinions.
  21. Spikes woulda helped a lot for sure, took me ages to get up that long stem on the left. It actually tore off just as it reached my rope, as I said I did have a second anchor point away from that but I had to stop for a sec to let my stomach settle . Hopefully I should have a video of it soon as the woman's husband who was being my groundie for the day got it on his phone, would be good to see where it went wrong.
  22. Great video, looks like loadsa fun. Is he using a lockjack there?
  23. Cheers for the responses. Where the bark has torn on the main leader was my first cut and I quickly learnt my lesson. Started scoring the bark underneath just incase, luckily I had a second anchor point away from the leader so wouldn't have been too serious. Glad it wasn't just my poor cuts that did it .
  24. Fascinating video, thanks for posting. I'm somewhat jealous though totally not of them, damn hard workers. The topping at 1.20 was amazing.
  25. Awww gutted, I actually go to myerscough college so if it was still held I'd hear about it. Thanks for replying though, sounds like it woulda been good fun with the target practice too, will have to try and find the next nearest.
