  1. Don't get me wrong I'm not nocking non vat reg boys in any way, most of my competition are non vat, I went over and rather than panic, moan, wine etc just accepted it and moved on and if I'm honest has been a good move.
  2. Your only pleasing your customers not your business, everything you use to be 20%cheaper than me has got vat on it, I get it back you don't. Very few of my domestics moan as most seem to expect it.
  3. It probably wouldn't have killed it if all business was reg would it,see what I'm talking about a level playing field.
  4. Ask for a vat number first. My plumber Is vat reg, don't mind one bit, he is good at his job,is fair and supplies an invoice showing vat......that's life.
  5. It means your turning over a certain amount of money and as one customer told me as I told him it was plus vat "well it shows your good at your trade" his words not mine and no just before anyone jumps down my neck and had a hissy fit, you dont have too be vat reg to be good but it just shows you can't please everyone.
  6. I didn't say it ment you did good work or bad did I? If your in business why not be reg? Everything you buy has vat on it so why not join the club????? Not made any difference to my domestic work, some moan but so what you can't please everyone. If you read my post properly and thought about it instead of jumping in feet first you would understand. Reduce vat to 10% but the threshold to say 20k that means all legit traders are in the same boat, those of no fixed abode wouldn't be so would stick out a mile and all business world compete on an equal footing.
  7. You miss understand as a legit business your also pricing up against non vat reg non legit "businesses " if all were the same you would not be grouped with the less legit guys.
  8. Why did gm stop doing them Pete? Surly it was another string to your bow.
  9. Why not? Because it won't suit you? 50% of my work load is domestic yes the odd one moans but most don't and some even expect to pay it,it has changed how I buy kit as well, I paid 16k for my new chipper you will pay 20k! I don't buy second hand saws any more I just buy new as crap of eBay is not much less that new with the vat off! You as a business pay vat every day so who is loosing?????
  10. Depends if you want to build a business or be a one man band man. Vat rate should be dropped to 20k but 10% be fair to every one Inc domestics.
  11. Not really, yes it would make life a bit harder but that's life, people would son get used too it a bit like the pre 97 driving licence.
  12. Don't se the problem to be honest, I wish the government would make it so all businesses had to be vat reg like in sweeden, this would put all business on a level footing and would have the added benefit of showing domestic customers that non vat reg traders wernt legit aka caravan trades men
  13. Give it time, then it will get painful!
  14. Haha the d3/d4 are atrocious for reliability . Just wondered if the newer defenders were just as poor.
  15. You got it jonny. Rip off Britain strikes again!
  16. Got ya, at that price it's much more exeptable, here it's about £2.70 per lt, really want to use it but it will treble my yearly fuel bills.
  17. Is it compulsory in sweeden to run aspen josh?
  18. What's people's view on the newer defenders? 10 too 14 plate, I keep hankering after a 110 crew cab hardtop but for the life of me I don't know why! I had an early 90 defender and a 300 tdi disco and both were v reliable (90 leaked oil) but I always wonder what the new defenders are like if you take into account the disco 3/4 nightmares.
  19. The 357 you re built spud is running great, just like a new saw. I put a new clutch bearing and drum on my 261 and it's no better still very wobbly and cuts out when chain brake is applied so it must be a crank issue! Always thought that saw was crap!
