  1. Which screw have you turned? One of the two little ones? Doubt very much that you've buggered it. Sure you can find the info online or someone will be along to tell you, but I think it's 1 and a quarter screws out from closed for both screws then adjust with it running. As I said though might be worth waiting for someone to tell you for definite before messing further. Rob
  2. Buy it and sell it to me!!
  3. It's something that I'm working on. This seems to be the quickest way of doing something productive. Plus they will also be distributed on sites I already do the grounds maintenance on, so they'll already know my work. They will merely provide contact details. What advertising would you recommend? Rob
  4. I'm doing the delivery myself, or at least 50 percent of it, when the other person will be in view so should do a decent job! Mine are colour, glossy thingymegigs..... So a bit more expensive, no idea what paper it is but the proof looks good Rob
  5. Due to the loss of quite a few big contracts I'm starting to advertise for the first time. I've had a flyer designed and I'm quite happy with it. Now I've had a mate get me a good price on printing. £120 for 500 A5 flyeres. But it's only an extra £12 for each additional flyer. I'd budgeted a bit more. I'm having 5000 done for definite, but I'm tempted to spend a bit more. Peoples thoughts? Rob
  6. I'd agree it sounds like there's something else amiss. Have you tried the saw since, and did it start up ok, wondering like mesterh if whatever else is wrong has goosed another piston. Rob

Surely if you don't really know what your looking for it's pointless doing gear checks. As a general rule I look at stuff and see what I think. If Im in any doubt I ask somebody with more experience about certain bits. Rob
  8. Yep I fully agree, and before I carry out any works I will speak to the tree officer, but at the quotation stage I don't really want to be involved, in the can of worms it will open. I will also be suggesting felling and replacing the tree with a more suitable species. Normally the tree officer is my first call for advice, hence asking on here without. I'm thinking that a couple of piles for the footings with a raft system for the retaining wall, then a cellweb type system for the infill. Is it 12 times the diameter of the tree that gives you the radius Rob
  9. I've got to wait for materials for a job until tomorrow so I'm trying to catch up on all my quotes and paperwork..... I've just been to look at a job, the development is about 30 year olds. The house is at the bottom of the slope, with a grass bank and path running down to the house. There is a tree in the middle of the grass bank that was planted as a requirement of the development in the middle of the grass. This tree has a TPO on it. However somebody has recently topped it - Customer delighted till I pointed out that the shape may be ok but the work is pants. Now back on track the client wants to install a driveway level with the road. Not a problem normally build retaining wall fill in. However I have a feeling the area will be in the root zone of the tree. Anybody fill me in on rules and regs please. Also if this is not possible is it possible to do anything with the path that is being lifted. She wants to install some steps instead of a sloping path, again probably in the root protection zone. Normally I'd ring up the council and have a chat but with the work that has already been done I don't want to be the one that gets the council involved with the broken TPO. Sure theres got to be a way of doing it, or the other option is to just walk away altogether Rob
  10. I know nothing about fungi, but what about a 10 year reduction over 10 years doing 2m every 2 years. Shouldn't shock the tree to much, and allows for regrowth within the crown during this time, and reduces the branch tip weight which will reduce the risk of failure to a more acceptable level. Can you tell I recently activated this tree management program on an estate...... Interested to hear views Rob
  11. I'm with Lloydstsb and their well I'm not happy with them. You used to dial the business centre and get straight through to a person, now you have to press 1 press 2 enter this etc a definite downfall. Also switching money between personal and business isn't instant. A couple of occassions in order to prevent going overdrawn, ive had to physically go into a bank draw out money and pay it in, because they couldn't do it over the phone. Sometimes they are happy to pay things against uncleared sometimes they are not - It makes no difference if you speak to them. On occassions they suggested taking money out on the business credit card to ensure funds were available. Simple things seem to get messed up, and when my account was cloned it took weeks to sort out - luckily i had money in a HSBC account. In other words their fine whilst you've got money in your account. But if you don't get paid for 3 months for work that you've done they aren't that helpful. However I can see things from their point of view and things that are my fault I accept I will be charged for. What I don't get is their inflexibility to altering an overdraft for a day when they can see you have money in other accounts. I'm now in a much better situation and am looking at moving banks. I think that Natwest seem to be about the best from my research, but who knows. I do know I don't want Lloyds to make any more money out of me!! Rob
  12. Could be, is planning permission likely? Ifso what for?
  13. I'm scratching my balls because of the weather - Mind you if I had a lot on I'd be getting on with it. I've not really seen a drop in work available, but I've definitely seen a drop in price as to what people are prepared to pay for it, and can get it done for. Rob
  14. I agree the wallpaper looks lovely in that shade of pink - Sorry I couldn't resist. I'll try to behave better for the rest of the day. Rob
  15. I've heard that to. British waterways are now allowing burning on some sites. Main problem with the EA is that they haven't got qualified climbers and they haven't got the budget to sub works like that out. Something that they need to address urently IMHO. In fact if they want work doing at a reasonable price........... Rob
  16. Not with spelling like that.........
  17. Positively refreshing no PC bollox going on, thread read by all in the nature it was intended. Maybe there's hope for society yet!
  18. It's using it single handedly thats been determined to be dangerous. Apparently serious cuts to left hand reduced by 90% or something daft when they were 'banned' from ground use
  19. For one contract I had the rear fog lights wired up to flash along with the ambers and reversing lights. The van wasn't sign written. Used to produce some interesting results if you just turned them on when some pillock got a bit to close behind you. And no I haven't got them anymore - fortunately or is that unfortunately.....
  20. How bigs the cottage, looks like it may keep you warm loading it!!!! Presumably the reason for an automated system now Rob
  21. Somebody told me that the reason the 2 stroke victas were being stopped was related to emissions rules, any truth to this? I've got a guy that swears by them. Rob
  22. I use mine when it's thick fog, until a car comes up behind me then I turn them off, same if I overtake a car I turn them off till I can't see it's headlights anymore. Otherwise they're dazzling Rob
  23. Is that so when society goes tits up you can use it to light your fire with!! A financial adviser said recently buy gold, buy land buy a gun
  24. Well that kept me out of mischief for a little while. Definitely more productive in daylight though!! 3 tonne/builders/you know the ones I mean filled with a mix of ash and rowan. Got another pile twice the size again to do next then a load of sycamore. Oh and I like my splitter, just under a tenner from the hardware store and it's ace! Then I just need to turn unseasoned logs into hard cash, easier now than it used to be. Rob
