  1. Does anyone have a 3500-7500kg vehicle insured for Arb work whilst running O licence exempt? If so who with? Looking at alternative options re income. Current company wont cover this if I stop doing my current main work.
  2. Its amazing that you & I can see the true cause of the driver problem yet the DVSA cant. Ah well they might get an extra driver on the road if I have to close.
  3. Those of you that think its a good idea you need to remember you are coming at it from your view point. If I told you that in general the best clients to get are ARB ones as they tend to have a good calculating brain, drive sensible, understand weight & risk & can already reverse. Sadly most of the rest of the drivers are not like YOU. Stop thinking of YOU & how YOU drive & your experiences & think of the rest of the population. There are a lot more of them than YOU.
  4. C1E would be about half or less than that. In a very different vehicle. Most use 4 or 5T vans.
  5. Yet the crazies want more like them to be able to tow. Most will be pre 97 or under the 3500kg limits.
  6. Medical £50-70 theory training and test £70 Initial CPC if needed £240 C1 (if needed) £700 C1E if taken C1 £700 C1E with no C1 first £1050 (aprox as not yet worked out actual course plans for that eventuality, no I dont just drive around aimlessly its all planned) On going CPC £50-70 per 7 hour day. Other costs O licence (restricted potentially) Using tacho for all work so less working hours in a day.
  7. They have put question in consultation on allowing you to apply for it.
  8. Thats not part of the plan just BE.
  9. How is that any different to now?
  10. You will have to apply for it or still get done for no E.
  11. I have thanks
  12. No, Cars will just do car test & get trailer too. Bigger vehicles will be allowed to go straight to E status. Seeing as I was closed for most of the lock downs you can shove that comment up your arse. I dont care if that get me a ban your a KNOB HEAD.
  13. Thats a possibility. Get a C1E rig suitable for arb. Not sure if the rates people are willing to pay would be enough based on comments on here.
  14. It will be all over the media if / when it happens. I will be busy looking for rope / suitable tree.
  15. If they already hold a B they would have to claim it. If they pass after the change it might be given to them. If the lunatics get their way. ALL the stats say it a crazy idea but the DVSA cant supply enough tests for LGV so are trying to free up tests by stopping the need for BE. What the DVSA are missing is people are leaving LGV work & active numbers of drivers is going down because its shit not because they cant get a test.
  16. Nationally they are consulting on removing the BE licence, removing the need to take a test in a rigid vehicle before taking a test with a trailer, so straight to CE DE or C1E or D1E without taking C C1 or D D1. Locally closing test center making people drive an extra 2 hours each way on a good day to the next one. Removing need for the rigid test first removes about 20% of my work, removing BE removes about 70% but the Test center closing removes 100% of it.
  17. Now that it seems that we are going back to issuing cornflake packet driving licences I am looking for a new main business venture. I already do contract firewood processing & sell a little firewood. Thinking of possibly extending this & getting into oversized. Biggest issue seems to be the work is a long way from me & travel & accommodation racks the cost up. So now looking for something to take further. Open to legal & moral suggestions. Would really like remote / from home or internet based work but not afraid of getting down & dirty.
  18. Not a single penny. Our barrister advised not to go for costs.
  19. Defending enforcement action can get costly. It cost me about £18k to do so against the local council. If you loose you could end up paying all the costs.
  20. It is that simple. Forestry PD rights are not restricted with a minimum acreage or financial viability. The works only has to commensurate with the operation / land size. Who mentioned horses? They are very rarely Agri or forestry.
  21. You missed my point. Forestry is the issue. You have MORE rights under Forestry than Agri & no minimum acreage.
  22. Hobby forestry is enough for PD rights to apply. You can site it for a "season" with no issue. As season is defined as a period of less than 1 year. So 364 days then remove & put back later.
  23. How big is the span?
  24. Most call 4" to 12" or 14" processor sized. My smaller machine wants 8" to 14" for max output, the bigger machine 8" to 16". Much bigger on either causes more need to resplit which slows you, any smaller & you loose production. Personally under 6" costs you more money to buy & produce than its worth. A 4" log has 1/4 of the wood of an 8" yet takes the same amount of time & money to process. Ideally wood should be graded into tighter grades covering say 4" or 5". But that will cost you more to buy in.
  25. 4 corner slabs & 2 sleepers would be enough for a shed.
