  1. Please ignore the obvious spelling errors (predictive text and a very early morning, not proof reading)

  3. Cheers Al I'm going to email petzl on Monday as my supplier has said its worn out through use.
  4. Hi Steve, I'm not really doing any quick descents at the mo old age and all that. I try to minimise getting the ZZ to hot as the metal holds heat and could damage the rope if left in the same position on the rope after said decent< I have done it with a figure of 8 training for the footlock. A few years ago I would of said yup as I've been known to glaze a few ropes! The same goes for Jason's ZZ he climbs a lot but it's all pretty controlled
  5. Point taken but I have alway taken good care of my climbing line it gets put on a cold delicate wash I would of said once every 9 months usually mid winter if it's been wet causing the rope to get gritty. After a really wet week on a muddy site much to her indoors disapproval it goes in a bath of cold water to give it a clean. I would of said a softer rope would cause less wear through friction as the fibres are looser. A stiffer or newer rope such as velocity I feel would speed up the wear. The other zig zag has been used on several different ropes but all semi dynamic nothing static which would cause a lot more wear. It really is just the speed in which the part wears from general wear. With past experience rope selection for a tree motion bridge can speed up the wear on the connector point whether it's a green dmm ring or swivel. The factory supplied green bridge is soft causing less wear but armor prus or ocean polyester will greatly speed it up because of the make up of the outer sheath.
  6. Okay me and one of my guys have been running out zig zag 2s for 6 months these were replacements for the mark 1s. Mine has started to slip and to the point where you get in position for a cut reach to get a saw and oh where's the branch gone. Cue look up two foot above to see the branch I I fended to cut! I normally give the ZZ a daily check before climbing to look for cracks in the links but this time decided to have a better look to see if I could find a problem. The inside of the bottom link where the rope feeds into the pulley has worn from the rope friction, it was a very clean profiled edge when new and now it's a very rounded shape. I have a feeling due to the percentage of metal worn away it's going to be a loler failure! This is really only a problem for climbing when running it on a rope guide with a clear run to the pulley so minimal friction on the ZZ. Yesterday I had a look and our second ZZ and it has the same issue. Now I think they are great bits of kit, they are not cheap but worth it if they last more than six months. Now Petzl have given them a working service life of 5 years (I believe) but my two have fallen short by 4.5 years! Has any one else had an issue with this? I'm running mine on turfleburger tachyon which is 5 years old now so nice and soft. I guess petzl should be happy two have worn out and not cracked!!!
  7. Hi does anyone have a PDF copy of a Unimog u300, u400 or u500 handy? I have a hard copy but it's in German!! Help please as I need to identify some fuses and well a few other bits. I'm guessing a manual won't be cheap from Mercedes. Cheers
  8. The crane has one more section left to extend than what's in the picture. I'm not to sure of the full lifting capacity it seemed pretty stable yesterday. The crane folds up nearly in the bed of the mog
  9. I'm getting older and the trees aren't getting any smaller. Any thing to save our backs. Nothing beats the little skid steer though! When I get a corn trailer I will be able to bring you in some timber for your mill!
  10. Yes the crane is on the linkage so it will come on and off when needed. I may get a chipper for the front at some point for now it will have a tow behind. I'm going to run it for a month and the change a few bits about once I know the machine. Firstly a tarp roof to stop the chips going every where but being able to remove it when the crane comes into play. I'm not sure if it's stretched or not I can have a look at the paper work.
  11. She's a LWB u300 with a demountable timber crane on the back. I've only had it a week and yesterday was the first outing
  12. I had my new mog out today helping with the heavy bits
  13. I would offer £28-30k if they were good time keepers, presentable and muck in with all of the work. I'm based in the south east if that effects my answer?
  14. Hi I'm looking for either a contract climber or groundsman for the next 3-4 months or employed under a full time contract? The usual tickets required for the either duties please, rates of pay dependant on experience and ability to perform tasks. Immediate start pm me on here or call 01252 790494 Thanks Rhys
  15. Hi I'm currently looking for a unimog for tree work with a pto, lift arms, mechanically and visually in good order. I have spoken to the two main UK dealers but nothing takes my fancy. Does any have one or thinking of selling one or know of one for sale in the UK? any thing considered. Please pm me. Cheers
  16. I've just had a new grapple made for my machine. First run out tomorrow, it's the little things in life!
  17. I had an email today the economats are £59 plus vat each minimum of ten for the discounted price
  18. I've recently bought 10 of these economats they are great they flex so bend to the lie of the land one sides smooth and the other tread plate pattern. I think I paid £69 or £79 plus vat each I can't fault them at all. I removed a beech on the edge of a lake over a golf green the board were spot on! My ply boards on the other hand were not they started to break up under my skid steer. I will definitely be buying another 10. http://www.zigmagroundsolutions.com/product-design-and-innovation/product-innovation-and-benefits/economat-multipurpose-board-for-builders-and-event-organisers
  19. Samuel L Jackson was above us in Abramovich's seats. An awesome day!!
  20. Hi sorry guys I've not been on here for a while the wood has now gone. Yes the first 100cms were not any good but the rest was sound
  21. Now, I'm not a football fan or Chelsea fan but yesterday I had the call from a friend....'do you fancy watching the Chelsea Aston villa game?? Why not!! So today I got to use the Vice Presidents seats for a 5 course meal and watch the game in the comfort of some of the best seats in the ground. For a non foot ball fan what a game! It's all about who you know!!
  22. I can't see the need for one as you stand on the back rather than sit on a seat. It was just a question that got raised today, I was hoping some one might have a link or the correct answer according to the HSE?
  23. I was pondering over mini loaders and one question came to mind. Why don't they require a roll bar to protect the operator to comply with the HSE???
