  1. what is the difference with the spider jack 1 and the spider jack 2, I have climbed on one for about 3 years now, the SJ2 is certainly a lot cheeper than what i paid for the SJ1.
  2. The company has two one 09 one 07, mine 09 gets about 24mpg the other gets about the same, he has had his chipped to try and improve the mpg sort of works, I just thinks he has a heavy foot! Due to the emissions regs they are not as good as they use to be I am sure my D40 was better. We are running over sized tyers tho 60/40s. I believe the emission regs are another government scam, I seem to have to burn more fuel to get the same mileage as I would from the older truck.
  3. Does it matter what you have? as long as its practical for your type of work clean, tidy and professional for what you are doing.
  4. Evening all, does anybody know any suppliers or web sits for utility equipment, at present I am after insulated rods. Can,t find any UK sites that just specifically deal with utility gear.
  5. I have my oil turned up full, and fill up the saw with oil then tip the saw so the air escapes, I have never had the oil run out before the fuel it also makes getting the cap on easier and cleaner. Groundie one day got a shock, fueled up the saw and sent it up, 5 minutes later groundie covered in bar oil. Makes a change from me getting covered, Maybe that will teach him to put the caps on and check that they are on!
  6. If only those people in the first photo had smiled! I actually found the day very enjoyable covered old ground as well as new.
  7. About 25% crown reduction if it has to be reduced, to be done June/July time to prevent silver leaf, 2 men about £150-200
  8. The Fommes is also known as tinder fungus, as you can scrape the fungus to create a tinder for fire lighting. I live in East Anglia and have never found one, may be one day.
  9. The NPTC ticket will not be recognised on a lot of sites however the IPAF will, you also need a CSCS card to enter many sites. This is a multiple choise question test (its hard to fail)! My understanding is that if you have 40/41 then you are competent and there is no need to do the NPTC chainsaw from MEWP
  10. I use a spider jack on tachyon (11.5mm) great set up in the dry, however when the rope gets covered in tree slime and when raining I find it does'nt cam as well as in the dry and it can creep a little. Never played with a lock jack thought I might get one and give it a go.
  11. I would have stretch air but they don't make my size. Hi flex is what I use, I get through on average a pair a year. How long does other peoples PPE last?
  12. Picking mine up on the first of march, you'll only see a 2 or 3 in this colour around E. Anglia. (PS. if you read this boss and bossess thank you very much, considering the current economical climate.)
  13. Waist needs to be about 2 inches bigger + the legs are too tight and a bit short I know they do the +7 but that will not help with them being too tight
  14. Ive been climbing for 9 years doing large section fells to light pruning works, you're supposed to do up the ladder not down.
  15. I am a 6ft 4 climber weighing 18 and a bit stone who can't find any good quality chain saw gear that lasts and fits. I have been using hi flex gear but there quality has gone drastically down hill. Streatch air only make type Cs up to XL, you can't get bigger sizes by special order, they only do the jacket. My dealer has told me that SIP are no longer continuing with there large long legged trousers. I can't be the only big climber bending trees over, any one got any ideas. (And I can't lose any fat it's all muscle!)
  16. Steve, written exams were held at Norwich, the management day was at Ardley Arboretum, I did my course through Tree Life. I also went on the 3 day management prep course that Tree Life run, this was held at Sparsholt collage, well worth going on especially for BS5837! If you want any of those papers contact me.
  17. In my opinion the best groundies are also the ones take part in the climbing, maybe not the more advanced pruning and take down jobs but the smaller jobs with a little light rigging. This way they know what you want before you even ask for it, this way it just makes the whole job run a lot smoother. I once had a groundie like the, however he had to leave because of a leg injury during a game of football. Training a new one as we speak!!
  18. Just got the results of my tech cert last week, i'm well chuffed I passed. I should be able to dig out some mock exam questions that my tutor set me if you want
  19. For all of our guys at work we buy good quality Husky or Stihl, which ever are doing the best deal at the time, they are told to only to use them when using a saw if they dragging brash they use a pair of rigger glover. Most of the chainsaw golves seem to last about a year
  20. Buy that person a can of deodorant maybe they will get the message
  21. I cant find any that fit me they only do XXL in type A, I need XXL in type C, There must be other climbers that need XXL type C ! However they do make the jacket in XXL but not the trousers, this seems strange to me.
  22. I now have respect for the Eucalyptus. Its not just a horrible over grown tree in the small town garden
