  1. Liz Truss event interrupted by banner depicting a lettuce NEWS.SKY.COM A similar stunt was pulled earlier in the year when a sign was lowered during an on-stage appearance by Nigel Farage. There's the video in that one.
  2. That lightened my day earlier as well. Liz Truss rages at lettuce banner and says prank ‘was not funny’ WWW.INDEPENDENT.CO.UK The former prime minister dubbed the group behind the prank, Led by Donkeys, ‘far left’ accusing them of attempting to...
  3. Just reminiscing. Little did we know back then, quite how much more interesting the world was going to become. The coup in Turkey was but a little playground scrap looking back, compared to all the shit going on now. This was pre:- Trump, Brexit, Boris/Liz/Rishi/Tory Meltdown, Global Pandemic, Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Gaza. All that has happened in just 8 short years. Jeez.

  5. Nice. I'll skip the luke warm Wife Beater though thanks! That looks very much like our salad last night.
  6. Three in ten minutes, when I went out at 11pm. I was happy with that.

  8. Meteor shower tonight boys and girls. Keep your eyes peeled. It's a clear sky here so looks promising. Best show is after 12 though, so no chance I'll catch that. Perseid Meteor Shower 2024: When and how to watch WWW.BBC.CO.UK The Perseids meteor shower peaks between August 11th and 13th this year.
  9. You know things have changed a little since 88 - 90 right?
  10. Those bloody arsonists again no doubt, probably immigrants as well.
  11. We'll have to agree to differ on this one. I was with you all the way until then; there should be no place for bigotry, prejudice or racism on here, or anywhere else in this day and age. (Including towards cyclists!).

    Bind weed

I dunno, it's a pernicious weed for sure, in the premier league of such things, but there's worse. At least the roots are fairly shallow and easily spotted, being bright white and nice and fat. Similar for Couch Grass. Mare's Tail, Knotweed or Bamboo are much more troublesome wrt to digging the roots out. (Mare's Tail goes down meters, and breaks off when you so much as look at it. Speaking from experience). I reckon that if you've got a blank canvass, ie. no established plants to work around, then digging Bindweed out is doable. If you're prepared to be meticulous in grabbing up every last little bit of root. And revisiting the subsequent year or two. Again, speaking from experience in my own garden.
  13. What on earth? Is that why this is the last time it's going to be in the Olympics?
  14. Mate, gotta pull you up on one point there, you've gone too far this time. There's naught wrong with cyclists! Give yourself a shake. 😉

    Bind weed

Digging! Lots and lots of it.
  17. Luckily you. I really miss the sea, having grown up with it within quite easy reach, north and south coasts. It's the worst thing about living in the Midlands, you can't get much further away from the coast! My wetsuit lies in a bag in the loft, neglected but not yet forgotten. Easy garden day at home here. Just me and the lad as she's out for the day. I'm enjoying this hot but sub 30 degree temperature. 25 is about ideal for me.
  18. Being a good person was one of the founding principles of all religions I thought. Strangely all the organised religions seem to have forgotten that fundamental bit.
  19. The irony!
  20. Others might call it counter-brainwashing. If it's teaching kids to think critically and question sources of info and data then it can only be good surely. We'd have to be living in a properly fcked up state for the state to use it as a means of pushing an agenda. The idea is the antithesis of that. That's North Korea territory, no other country can even get close to achieving it. There's nothing wrong with advising against trusting screen shots, and stories without evidence, opinion passed off as fact etc etc. That's how mis/disinformation and Conspiracy Theories are hatched and incubated after all. There's a grown up or two who'd do well to stop relying on screen shots from LinkedIn and X for instance. We're seeing plenty of radicalisation of middle to late aged men.
  21. Interesting question. On a slight tangent. I think religious beliefs are sometimes claimed as justification for racist opinions. I'm sure I've seen instances of it on here anyway, "oh but Britain is a Christian country, therefore we can't possibly have Muslims here". Christianity and Islam being the two most hostile of all organised religions towards others.
  22. Wordle 1,148 2/6 ⬜⬜🟩🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Nice.
  23. Nevermind, the more you have the cleaner the glass will become.
  24. Ginger!
