  1. That's the badger!
  2. I've always thought timber was drier in the winter. No hard evidence for that, more just a feeling based on stuff I've seen and heard. Like the firewood example above, or coppicing being done in the winter because the poles last longer due to being drier, (one of the reasons). Or spring being the time to tap Birch trees for wine making. I think there's obviously still sap there in the winter, just less of it. Just found this. In this very commendable book.
  3. Nice idea but how's it going to work in practice? I'm thinking about packing up and closing the tailgate at the end of the day. You'll need secure fixings to take the weight of the vice as well. I've seen a picture somewhere of a mobile blacksmith or farrier's vehicle where the anvil or vice was mounted on a slide. So pulled out over the back for work and then stowed away inside for travel.
  4. He was thinking about how to save all those cats and dogs from being eaten by those horrible Haitians.
  5. Me too. Wordle 1,180 2/6 🟩⬜⬜🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  6. Some seeds need to go through a bird first. Just saying ....
  7. Do royal logs not roll?

  9. Not a bad effort I thought, aside from that glaring error.

  11. Indeed. The fact that Algae has at least four different patterns of lifecycle is pretty crazy. We humans think we're so clever with our machines, our computers and our AI, but we're not a patch on the natural world. We'll never be able to create that level of complexity.
  12. Tell you what, I'm enjoying this Milk Stout. It's like drinking chocolate velvet, with a big bitter hit on the finish to even things out.
  13. I'd go for something like Laurel, harder wearing. Or Holly, you'll stick in people's minds then.
  14. What's this then? I assume Fungi as Lichen would take years to accrue that much coverage. The Mrs thought it was paint at first. Until I point out that we were in the middle of a wood, and why would someone bother?
  15. No surprise in that story. Sleazebag is being generous, criminal would be more apt. He makes Starmer seem like a saint. The real surprise is that a few people still defend him so doggedly.
  16. Not even a lettuce would seek advice from that silly woman.
  17. Exactly my sentiments. I'm not happy if it takes more than 5 minutes. When I gets to 10 I'm feeling decidedly tense and restless. Completely in the hands of Lady Luck though.
  18. Looks sound to me. Attractive and concise, all you need from a business card. I too used Vistaprint for mine. Many years ago now but I was happy with them.
  19. A personal best today. Not in terms of lines but time taken. Under a minute I reckon. Maybe I could've taken a less hurried approach and got a 3er. I know I fcked up the second line somewhat. Wordle 1,177 4/6 🟨⬜🟨⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  20. No, not a joke, they're meant to be funny. The operative word here is global.
  21. I've driven down the road from Imbros to HΓ³ra SfakΓon a couple of times, for the ferry. Talk about scenic. I feel your post holiday blues pain! Even worse coming back to this autumn drizzle in the Midlands.
  22. Wordle 1,176 6/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜⬜🟨🟨🟨 🟨🟨⬜🟨🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨⬜ 🟩⬜🟨⬜🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Another tester. Never done so many lines without a green.
  23. I treated myself to a visit to a fancy beer shop this afternoon. The place has a vast array of unknown, (to me), beers. There are hundreds and hundreds of different ones. I'm all for craft beers, independent breweries, real ales, continental lagers etc, but it's a bit much really. I just randomly chose these, after he'd given me a couple of Milk Stouts, which is what I went in for. I found it quite daunting to be honest, being faced with such a choice of unknowns. Anyway, the couple I've had so far went down well. Especially the Peanut Butter Milk Stout, contrary to how it might sound.
  24. Crap sweet corn. Good greens.
  25. Wordle 1,175 5/6 ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟩🟩⬜ ⬜🟩🟩🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 That was horrible, I hit a wall on line 3.
