  1. Yes. They couldn't feed all the corn surplus to cattle so they had to find something else to do with it. Another Nixon triumph, this was all down to his man Earl Butz back in the early 70s.
  2. Yes, I was sad to hear this earlier. Always enjoyed their cheerful, down-to-earth style.
  3. My, this thread has taken a turn. So the culprits here might be Feeders. Who knew that Feederism was a thing? There's a fetish for everyone these days!
  4. Ogallala Aquifer - Wikipedia EN.M.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  5. It's not quite the only way. The other way is to not eat copious amounts of meat every day. The American diet is probably the worst in the world, from various perspectives.
  6. So my brother has just sent me this, (he must of been idly google maps scrolling, obviously a busy day at work). Google Maps WWW.GOOGLE.COM Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps. Cattle farming, Texas style. The scale and nature, (or lack of), of it is a bit obscene. It's vast. Those crop circles are weird too, due to centre pivot irrigation. Anyone else seen interesting stuff somewhere?
  7. It's got some impressive stats. Harder and denser than Oak, and more durable than Sweet Chestnut. I've turned a few bits and pieces. It looks very attractive but can be tricky to get a decent finish as it's so hard.
  8. That looks good. We could do with a supplier like that in the UK. It would be nice to have a readily available alternative to tanalised softwood timber, (which normally rots after not many years anyway).
  9. Thank goodness, I've not slept for days!
  10. Good work! That looks like Oak to me. If it was in front of me I would smell it to confirm. It has a quite distinctive aroma, reminiscent of vinegar to my nose. What can you smell? Oak can split really easily like you've found, if it's fresh, straight, clean stems. I had some recently that was like that.
  11. What's the the middle class white dollop, mashed potato? Does it approximate to hash browns in a fry up?
  12. No need to worry about road markings or signs. As long as you stick your hazards on and keep you engine running, you can park wherever you like.
  13. In praise of Proper bacon from a proper butcher! Great big thick rashers and non of that horrible white gunge that you get from supermarket bacon. Lovely for a Sunday sarnie. The difference between the two sorts is marked. This was an organic butcher so should be even less other "stuff" in it
  14. THIS ADVERT HAS EXPIRED!

Would anyone like this book? I'm never going to use it, but really don't want to through it away. I'm not looking for a lot of money, just enough to cover postage and a pint maybe!

  15. The comment was firmly tongue-in-cheek! Just highlighting the mis/dis information that is always bandied around when talking about topics like climate change. Anyway, this has been on the radio all week, Book of the Week. It's an interesting discussion of the relationship between the oil industry, climate change and Fire. BBC Sounds - Fire Weather by John Vaillant - Available Episodes WWW.BBC.CO.UK Listen to the latest episodes of Fire Weather by John Vaillant on BBC Sounds
  16. Lovely. I reckon that'll clean up nicely and make a decent Bill Hook.
  17. So it looks like Spring is springing here. Albeit a bit early, it seems to me.
  18. Ah, knew I'd seen the pearl of wisdom somewhere.
  19. British Gas sees profits increase 10-fold WWW.BBC.CO.UK The company managed to recover losses of £500m it made during the height of the energy crisis.
  20. You've got it all mixed up boyo. The increase in forest fires that we're seeing is nothing to do with Climate Change, it's just because of all those pesky arsonists. (Well, that's what I read on here anyway, in relation to the fires in Greece last year).
  21. That'll be useful when you pull up on Mrs Miggins small suburban drive, and she'll be really impressed.
  22. Completely. Probably the old pickup size is inversely proportional to pecker size.
  23. Half the people, the posers, that drive pickups don't need the off-road capability anyway. A van would surely be more practical in those cases.
  24. Dare I mention Degrowth? Maybe it's time to sack off the idea that GDP is king. Degrowth can work — here’s how science can help WWW.NATURE.COM Wealthy countries can create prosperity while using less materials and energy if they abandon economic growth as an...
