  1. Extremely. Red is splashed around with abandon in the pursuit of success in anything.
  2. Trying to avoid radar detection? Maybe they'll try a triangular prism shape next. Or the octogan might have been chosen because 8 is a very auspicious number in Chinese culture. Numbers are highly significant. 4 is highly unlucky do I doubt we'll see them use a trapezoid balloon!
  3. On a skiing trip to France last week I finally realised a Brexit Positive - we can now get nice little stamps in our passports without having to travel to the other side of the world!
  4. Looking for somewhere to invest your illegitimately earned billions? VID-20230206-WA0002.mp4
  5. Log burner rule change in England could land users with £300 fines WWW.BBC.CO.UK The tightening of regulations may lead to criminal records for those flouting them, a new policy says.

Not a joke as such but amusing nonetheless.

  10. What on earth is going on there? Doesn't look too good.
  11. I once watched a friend slice a wasp in half mid-air with a bread knife. Quite a feat considering wasps don't hover like that. Pure fluke though he maintained otherwise.
  12. Your anecdotal experience is good enough for me, thanks. I've got plenty of PVA lying around so will use it next time I get some nice looking wood. The other option is to turn things green. If you can remove the bulk of material it's much less likely to crack. It will probably warp but that can look quite attractive, or it can be turned true once seasoning has finished. I'm not normally organised enough to start working on things straight away though.
  13. I might come and get some off you in a year or so, if it's not too badly split!
  14. How well does that work? The PVAing I mean. I've kept quite a few bits of nice looking timber for future turning, in the shade, off the ground, but most of it has split to b*ggery after a few months. Cherry, Hawthorne, blackthorn, laurel, laburnum, non has done very well. All live when I cut them so that obviously doesn't help.

    Queen

Rest in peace the Queen. She deserves respect. A true Public Servant in my opinion. (More so than the other royalty, but hopefully Charles will become like her in that sense). She always acted with honour and dignity, sadly scarce traits in public life these days. She worked right up to the end, long after she deserved to retire, with all those endless duties. I always felt quite sorry for her actually, even more so after she lost her dear Prince Philip. I've had enough of 2022 now!
  16. Well I guess thats one way you could look at it. I was deliberately trying not to frame it as a Left versus Right debate. It's not in my mind. It's about honour and decency in our "leaders" and politicians, rather than whatever it is that yer man values.

  19. There are even websites built to catalogue the lies and bullshit from this guy. There's nothing even remotely similar on May, Cameron, Major or Thatcher. That's why they didn't get the intensity of media attention that he deservedly gets. All that lying and dishonesty ought to be held to account. He's not "like any other politician". I don't think I'm out on a limb by wanting a degree of integrity in those that are meant to lead and serve us. The lies, falsehoods and misrepresentations of Boris Johnson and his government. BORIS-JOHNSON-LIES.COM Lies told by Boris Johnson and his government. The Cost of Boris Johnson COSTOFJOHNSON.COM Boris Johnson's lies are tearing our country apart. Stop letting him get away with it. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-false-statements-list-parliament-b2060797.html
  20. Picked the first couple of sweetcorn as a trial this afternoon. Well pleased with the result. Better than any I've ever , can't get much fresher. There's plenty more on the plants to harvest too. I'm pleasantly surprised given the lack of rainfall this year. I did water them a few times but I put most of the success down to the thick layer of manure that i put put down on the ground around them.
  21. Two small mercies .... Nadine Dorries to quit as culture secretary and ‘could be given peerage’ WWW.INDEPENDENT.CO.UK Ms Dorries could now receive a peerage in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list
  22. These guys make us tree climbers seem like amateurs. And they're slightly crazy. 310m, no ropes! The Shard: Climber reported and three men arrested WWW.BBC.CO.UK A 21-year-old man is detained on suspicion of scaling the 310m tall skyscraper in central London.
  23. Nice. Which one?
  24. Yeah, the recipe I used included lemons and oranges. I think most of the flavour came from them.
  25. Great, but do we really need a conversion?
