I there a machine out there that can compress processor waste to a usable size brick or pellet. Would only want to compress about 30m of sawdust and bits a year. Seems a shame to just burn a possibly valuable product.

The guy clearly hasn't counted out the logs - 1.2 cubic metres of loose logs would be closer to 400 pieces of wood. Probably got bored half way through. Get a retraction - he's clearly an oaf.

Where do you get a crane to put in the back of a pick up truck (L200) - my back is killng me and some sort of carne winch would be a great help. I would ideally lift 4 barrow bags at a time or one vented bag.

£24.15 for a 48x48x87 barrow which cleary works out as a smidge over .2 a cubic meter. By the time I've filled one - lifted in to pick up - and worse still - dropping off the back at the customers the bag has stretched meaning logs to be added. I am sure that a box that held .25 of a cubic meter would fit into one of these .2 barrow bags after stretching. Ok put price up to take up the slack but what would weights and measures say if you claimed to sell .25 of a cubic meter out of a bag stamped with 48x48x87.

To be fair - it's only as good as the kit/man keeping the machine going. Theoretical output with a ram going forwards every six seconds on smallish timber is going to produce 3 pieces of firewood every six seconds ( big log cut into four small into two). So 30 logs per minute or 1800 logs per hour which give or take gives 6 cubic metres per hour loose fill. All you have to do is design a timber delivery system and firewood out system to suit and the jobs a goodun. Tell me when you discover the holy grail W

Never insisted on payment up front - most deliveries when client is at work - if they can leave me a cheque in a plastic bag under the doormat that's great or I leave an invoice. Only ever had one problem with probably one of the wealthiest people in the district. He blustered that he had already paid whilst waving last years invoice in my face. Tried to remain polite but I can safely say that I he gets his firewood elsewhere now.

It's been medium busy in January after a very busy Autumn and a manic Christmas. Had a new customer phone up the other day and eventually had to put the phone down when £96 a cube delivered next day of some sub 20% hardwood was a rip off. Maybe I'm too defensive but some people deserve to end up cold watching cr*p firewood steaming in the fireplace.

I've been trading for seven years and have only ever had four complaints - three of them from the same women - this year I've had enough when the complaint comes in about filling her house with smoke because of my wet firewood. Got in touch straight away saying I would uplift her entire delivery open up the bags split a random sample and test. Nothing tested more than 23% most being around 20% so soon got bored and resold the lot that morning. Sent e-mail explaining I couldn't deliver firewood to her requirements and a cheques in the post to cover the sacks I took. This was just before the current cold snap and it warms me up thinking about her trying to source 'Nirvana' firewood from some of my slightly rougher colleagues - think she may be hearing the 'F' word a few times this week.

Steve - I think you over moderate - I think the description of the people involved was entirely accurate. Why can't we call these folk what they are - It upsets me deeply that in these PC times we have to pander to these TGB's feelings.

Well Foxy - the only fert bags I've ever used you have to cut a hole in the botttom. I am sure that you can have all you want for a waste transfer document.

Phil - With a name like Macvity it must be your first name - That is a very impressive pile of wood - there must be close on 100 cubic metres of logs there. To do that in three days is damn good going - must have been at least two of you working some long days. They look like they will dry a treat in that mesh. Respect

Demand this time last year was very very busy - I stopped taking orders for new customers end Nov - pretty much ran out by end of Jan This year is well ahead of last year - best advert in the world is ' I'm sorry I have sold out' if you have great product.

It was in fact a He. Strange conversation - he has a large house in one of the most affluent areas of South England and was complaining that putting an extension on the house had cost him a fortune QED I should provide him with cheaper wood than everyone else. Was beginning to lose patience when he said it would be cheaper to get logs from a fuel station. 8 logs of wet fir for £3.99 against 22 logs of seasoned too dry hardwood delivered to his wood store down the end of the biggest garden in history for £6.00 and this guy is a businessman. I thank you all for your kind comments - I am ordering the hottest curry I can handle tonight and tomorrow morning I am going to christian a few of his bags before delivery - I can assure you that they will burn like hell. Ah - that feels better any more ice cubes matron

Just put the phone down on customer who not only wanted me to drop my price but criticized my firewood for being too dry. I'm not happy

I did this when I started out - dropped off about 80 leaflets. Didn't get a single reply. Told the story to a mate involved in marketing who said I'd done well - average reply to this method is less than 1 %. If you're getting three replies a week it's outstanding. Get a sign up get some sign writing done on the delivery vehicle and possibly local paper advert. Sit back, take deep breath and the orders will flood in. Good luck
