    TPO Farce

They dont go round putting TPO's on tree that are nice. Usually there needs to be a threat imposed on a good speciment tree for a TPO to put on it. I asked the tree officer the other day if a homeowner, who loved their trees, could ask for TPO's to be put on them to prevent subsequent owners of the property from felling them. The answer I got was NO, it doesnt work like that. But if those same trees were under threat then a TPO could be placed on them. All the TPO means is that procedures need to be followed before it can be removed/worked on. So, if I call the TO and said I wanted to cut down an oak next week, is there a TPO on it? HE would probably say there will be one on it by tomorrow (hence why they didnt call you back for 24hrs) because I have just notified them of a threat to the oak tree. (not applicable to some species) At least with the TPO in place you ( or the owner) can fill out the forms, gie the evidence, and then if and when its lifted you can proceed with the felling and not feel bad about it.
  3. Pretty easy to get parts for. Any silky dealer should be able to sort that out.
  4. Not sure what average condition is really. On average most 2007 saws would be in the part bin by now.
  5. I was going to suggest something else that 21 yr olds should be doing to prevent depression!

    TPO Farce

And if there is a survey that shows movement in the house causing subsidence (or risk of) and therefore insurance problems, then all that evidence goes on the application, and if the TPO is lifted then you have a job. I can see its frustrating that you didnt get a straight answer straight away though.

Why are you checking today for a job on monday?
  8. I still think there is a likely hood of misinterpretation, either by the OP's client of what the LA told him, or more likely a misinterpretation of what the client told the OP. He didnt get the job, and the client siad some stuff to try and placate him which has been misinterpretated into the LA saying only AAACs can do the work which we all know is not true. People misinterpretate all the time. Folk are being told they cant get a job without tickets, and they misinterpretate that to mean that they would get a job if they had tickets, whereas what it really means is that they cant get a job cos there arnt any or because they are not the person that a company would employ. So, I think the OP didnt get the work for whatever reason, the client said something like "it has to be an AAAC" even though he was probably only told to look at AAAC as a recomendation, and the OP has taken that as a definitive reason why he is not getting work.
  9. There is only one, or that new fangled MS201T thingy if yo have to.
  10. I was on tramadol, it said 1-2 tablets as and when it hurts and dont exceed 8 a day. It took 8 a day to remove the pain so I just went at it full strenght for 6 months. Was very addicted! Had to set my watch for the time to take the next 2 as missing a dose was not pleasant at all. But it worked, about 2-3 weeks off while settling on the right painkillers (tried everything else before tramadol) and then back to work. Instead of the 6 months off work that I was recomended by the doc, and 8-12 months that it could have been if I had surgery on it (waiting list plus recovery time). Back was ok in around 4-5 months but the addiction lasted a bit longer!!! Only problem is that I am now not overly sympathetic with people who have a little ouch here and there!!
  11. Generally you need to be invited to tender, its not something you can look up and then stick your price in.
  12. Times have changed since then. Also, what has this to do with planning applications being approved if carried out for AAAC's only?
  13. I'm glad you have it sorted. Just remember there is no such thing as better or worse Ibuprofen, so tesco value ibuprofen is EXACTLY the same as nurofen!!! Its the mgs of ibuprofen that count, you cant get stronger or weaker, just more or less active ingrediant. Nurofen is the biggest rip off!!! If it says 500mg of Ibupofen then that is exactly the same a 500mg of tesco value ibuprofen or any other make. Its one of the cheapest drugs to manufacture and really no need to get it in a fancy box!! Rant over. I used to go to a chiropractor quite often until I realised that all you actually get is another appointment!!
  14. Chapter 8 is for roadside works. If your talking about a general public place, i.e. a park then I would think that whatever measuers are necessary to keep it safe should be undertaken. So a park in winter with no one around might need a sign out and thats all, a busier park might need signs and cones. If it summer and there are kids about then signs conses and barrier tape, and if its really busy with dogs children everywhere then mesh fencing and sign etc. There can be no fixed distance that the signs should be from the work place but they must be effective. So if there was a fixed distance of say 10m and you put the signs at exactly 10m and that was behind a tree then that is obviously no good. A good line of site for on coming pedestrians/cyclist is essential so you need to work out waht is best for each job. Common sense needs to prevail but the wording I would think is that wahtever signage is used must be "effective".
  15. Cheers, I am fascinated by all these things and how the body sorts itself out given time, and what casues these things as well. Taking time off for your neck and hurting your lower back in the process is quite typical, you have changed your behavour/positioning for one problem and caused another. I have heard of that before. I once hurt my back (not a full on slipped disc but similar) because I stood on a nail! It penetrated my foot so I limped around like a wuss for a day and put my back out!! The back pain was far worse that the hole in my foot.
  16. Good luck with recovery, if your still walking (even if only just) then avoid surgery!!!!! It will get better I promise you that, but you need to manage the pain in the meantime. If you can find something that steadies the pain, codiene and voltarol for example and you can manage to get back to work in some sort of capacity you will be ok. Moving is better than sitting and tree climbing is actuall good for you (as long as you dont favour one side of your body too much). I am convinced that the hitchclimber method of climbing is far better than prussiks because the latter is usually set left or right not central. If you cant climb then swimming is good. At first the only time the pain went for me was in a swimming pool, but I gradually got back to work aswell. Codeine and voltarol didnt work for me, and I ended up on some much stronger opiates and was heavily addicted but I worked hard and the disc sorted itself out in the end. Took another 6 weeks to get myself off the tablets, and was 6 months in total.
  17. How long did that take to right itself?
  18. If Ibuprofen helped then it must be a trapped nerve or inflamed nerve, as it would do nothing to help a slipped disc. Sounds like its under control which is good.
  19. Sure, but if you screwed up less, and had less squads, you might end up with the same money. It depends how much the good ones are balancing the bad, if the good ones didnt have to balance the bad then the % profit could increase. But screwing up pricing comes down to many things, especially weather, so maybe more squads so that there is more good to balance the bad is the best way to go.
  20. No, I dont think it will ever be level as such, and I agree with you and gollum that there probably is a club of sorts, but its more a who you know club and/or if your face fits club, not an AAAC club. AAAC is not the be all and end all, its just the best industry standard we have, many companies are that good or better without being AAAC, and it up to them to promote themselves and win the work on their own merits, like all AAAC's still have to do. The OP was referring to planning consent for AAACs only and that cannot be the case.
  21. Is it this weekend coming or the one after??
  22. If there is then its not an AA thing, its just the Who you know thing as in your sig (nearly). There is no AA only old boys club going on, like I say I have been doing work for LA's for years without being AA approved, and also I have done lots of work for AA consultants that have recomended me over AAACs for years aswell. Now that I am AAAC nothing has changed really, no big door has opened, just another string to my bow, but I dont intend to use it to step over others, like I say there is a market for everybody you just need to know what/where it is.
