  1. Remember how I had a problem with it NOT sitting sideways? Well I'm over that, but only just! The idea is that the trailing end of your rope should follow you better if the HC is set upright. Then you also get the additional benefits of using it to make 3:1 's for rescue (unlikely I know). The swivel means you can have it left, right or centre. Personally, I think you are right, having it sit sideways, fixed either left or right, is probably best.
  2. Sure but the rrp was never 17k on the ford, so the ford is still looking good. I am looking at getting something like this as an additional general purpose vehicle.
  3. What how so it sits sideways?
  4. To shorten it just put an extra over hand knot behind the original knot. We played around using ropemans to adjust the bridge but it was decided that a ropeman might cut through the bridge in the event of a shock loading fall.
  5. Sorry I was being an egotistical arse back then!! I apologize. There is lots I don't know about trees!
  6. Does that make the hitch climber sit sideways? A nicer way to use it, but takes away the advantage of the hitch climber design.
  7. Have you ever been up there before. After you take a left turn off the main road after Bwtys y coed (sp) and start the drive toward snowdon its like being on another planet! Then instead of taking the turn to Llanberris and Snowdon you continue along the valley and then drop down into bedgellert its one of the most stunning road trips ever! The course is **** but the drive is worth it!!
  8. Yeah petzl swivel is the way to go. You can use the swiveling hole for the main anchor and the other for a secondary as long as you use a small enough krab like the petzl OK. As for the ring, its a rated part, probably as strong as some of your karbs, certainly as strong as a ring on a friction saver and way stronger than most friction hitch cord!!
  9. The ford ranger is looking good for the money
  10. I think the off the shelf one looks better but someone has gone mad here with the alloy wheels!
  11. How does that compare to the Mitsubishi tipper prisewise and performance wise??
  12. Its a pack mule during the week and a comfy motorway eater at weekends!! They are popular in NZ too right? It cost next to nothing and is very reliable, not bad off road either except for poor ground clearance, which will be demonstrated in the up and coming subaru story!!!!
  13. Well the girls that attended don't seem to be struggling in this industry!! Previous womens only event have been highly successful and the girls climbing has improved hugely over the past few years to the extent that we now have a euro champ and world champ amongst them.

I'm not going but from pembroke it is your nearest comp. It may not be a big turn out this year for many reasons but it should still be worth it. If you've never seen Jon Turnbull climb then you should go!!
  15. Its about bang on, just look bad! Maybe too much kit in the boot of the car and the trailer is weighted to the front but the actual weight is ok, honest officer!

Sometimes if the front stems can be felled out then they make the best anchor points for everything else as they are over clear ground. Then you fell them last.

Not heard of him! Birdlip is very near me though. Just re read and reaslised it was your first major climb, good work, I shouldn't pick holes in it. Just remember the thumbs up from the boss is his way of saying I don't have to climb so much now!

Which company is that? Not to be be picky but on the first pic after "on to the dismantling" it looks like you've removed your best anchor point?

I love it! I paid 2k for it 4 years ago, with 68k miles on it, now its only at 98k and I wouldn't sell it for any less than I paid for it! I'm sure its not worth 2k but I wouldn't part with it for less. I have plans to build a new chip box as the plywood one has been replaced twice and is never very good to look at. Once its built (aluminium) the rear body with box should last for a while but eventually on another vehicle. MOT in two weeks time, fingers crossed!
  20. Heres a home made one, not mine though

Also the rear tailgate was bent when I got it and got worse! I made a new one out of and old pair of stepladders. All lightweight but reinforced aluminium. Still going strong now two year later. Here it is with our experimental double barrelled chipper. Filling the truck in 15 minutes
